A restricted auction race for colts and fillies over this extended 5f(212y).
Quite an interesting race.
Howard Johnson has been in good form with his juveniles of late with a number running big races on debut. Cathedral Spires was one such individual, confounding his 66/1 sp with a bold show. This gelding by Intikhab comes from a very capable outfit in Transcend Bloodstock and will have his supporters as favourite today. There was much to like about that initial effort although there were a number of big priced horses seemingly running well that day and it may pay to be cautious. Howard Johnson has fair win and place statistics with fancied juveniles on their second start but perhaps one to be careful with at short odds.
Local Singer and No Poppy raced against each other at Redcar over 6f. Both seem to take a while to get motoring but the form of that race looks fair. The former, trained by Mick Channon, ran well since when stepped up to 7f and should not be inconvenienced back at 6f, and likely to be running on well at the line. No Poppy may have improved with the addition of the blinkers last time and seemed to show more pace. It will be interesting to see how they compare today.
Intrusion comes from a stable that can do little wrong at present and Paul Hanagan will no doubt bring a good number of punters to back this juvenile simply because he is firing in the winners. That was a fair effort on debut and there should be improvement for this extra furlong. Fahey features good win and place statistics with his juveniles on their second start when relatively fancied and an improved performance can be expected especially if backed.
Of the debutantes Grazeon Again could be a dark horse. Quinn has done well with his two-year-olds this season with Snow Bear winning on her first start at Catterick. This bay colt by Diamond Green was a breeze-up purchase for £36,000. Quinn doesn't have the best win rate on debut and it may be the case this youngster needs the run. However, he features a 32% win rate at the course and it is certainly a sign of encouragement that this two-year-old has been entered for two stakes races. It may be significant if this juvenile is backed and one of the more interesting contenders for this auction event.

A maiden for colts and one filly over 5f4y.
By all accounts this should be pretty plain sailing for Mayson, who represents Richards Fahey's team, which is in sparkling form. Owner, David Armstrong, has been lucky enough to have his share of talented juveniles (Anglezarke) and this bay colt by Invincible Spirit ran a great race on debut. Relatively fancied at 13/2, he finished in determined style. This looks a straightforward two-year-old and further improvement should be seen today.
Of the others, Baby Driver has been entered for a stakes race but showed next to no ability on debut while Glitter Bug has been fancied in the betting on both starts but beaten a 'country mile'.
Other race:
7:00 Thirsk

General Thoughts
'Just a quick update about my general thoughts for the season so far. It has been something of a frustrating time as yet although I am happy in my thoughts and confident in finding a decent few winners as the season progresses. With rarely giving juveniles less than 4/1 and more speculative bets it can seem slow at times but with such selections that can be the nature of the beast. There will be decent opportunities around the corner so it really is all about the long term and just a couple of winners will put us well in front for the season. I am hopeful of a turn in fortunes for next month and more opportunities.'

Jason

An EBF maiden stakes for colts and fillies over 5f.
Quite an interesting race with a mix of juveniles.
Miss Mediator ran well on debut over the quick 5f at York in a fairly valuable maiden. This American-bred filly by Consolidator is not that big but cost a hefty sum at 160,000gns. Dods has a decent string of two-year-olds and Andrew Tinkler has been on a buying spree so they will be expecting a decent number of winners this season. Miss Mediator got rather hot on debut and didn't lack for fitness or determination from Makin in the saddle. There may not be a lot of improvement from that initial start although the level of form should make her competitive. The first two home looked classier individuals at York and Imperialistic Diva is a better horse over 6f. Connections will be expecting a big run today.
On the York form Master Macho is clearly held by Miss Mediator. Channon's two-year-old has been very busy and racing may be taking its toll because the last two efforts, although placed, may be deceiving. Both of those events are difficult to asses and the form may be limited to some extent. At best, Master Macho would have an outstanding chance but I would rather watch today.
Karl Ryan has been in great form these last few weeks and always buys attractive two-year-olds. Fleet Captain showed little on debut but ran much better last time at York. Having been held up, this son of Compton Place ran on well and for a moment looked to have a fighting chance when hampered and eased down in the final furlong. It is difficult to say what this youngster could have achieved that day but must have had place claims. Dropping back to 5f may see further progress or a struggle to go the pace. I would have concerns this will happen all too fast and although it is often a plus to run on at Musselburgh, because it can be a difficult course to lead all the way, it would be a stiff task to come a long way off the pace.
Golden Taurus has progressed with racing after showing little on debut the drop to 5f at Sandown seemed to bring about improvement. This son of Danehill Dancer is a decent looker and he showed good pace in a small field. It is always a possibility he was slightly flattered by his finishing position but the form of that race is holding up well and as he was quite keen is wasn't too much of a surprise to see this juvenile tire in the last half furlong. Hills doesn't send many two-year-olds to Musselburgh and Eaves doesn't ride very often for the stable but this colt has been entered for a couple of stakes races and it could be the case Golden Taurus has more to come.
Of the debutantes Alben Star is fancied in the betting. Richard Fahey has been in flying form with his two-year-olds and has a 32% win rate at the course so must be respected. A breeze-up purchase for 30,000gns this colt by Clodovil should be fit and ready, however, it will be no easy task giving away experience to a few capable sorts here today.
Bet: 7:55 Musselburgh - Golden Taurus 1PTEW (16/1) 5th
Comment: 'A speculative bet that sadly didn't pay off today. A fair race with two debutantes running well didn't help the task but Hills' colt pulled much too hard and never really looked at ease. Perhaps he was flattered on his last effort. I reviewed that race many times and at the odds couldn't afford not to bet. Disappointing effort and hoped for better but speculative bets can deliver the good, bad and ugly.'

A field of colts and geldings for this extended 6f (212y).
Only two juveniles having racecourse experience and Waiter's Dream the main focus of attention. Meehan has been a little slow with his two-year-olds this season and like many of the trainer's youngsters this bay colt by Oasis Dream is likely to improve a good deal for his debut at Newbury. An 85,000gns purchase, this two-year-old ran in a fair maiden on his bow and wasn't pressed and given a considerate introduction. With improvement on the cards, a big run should be expected today.
Richard Hannon saddles three for this. It is never easy to assess the jockey booking for this stable, however, Auld Burns was an expensive buy at 160,000gns and one of the principles in the betting. The betting is generally the best indicator to chances. Patric Hills rides Measuring Time * for the stable and features a particularly poor statistic of 55 rides and no wins over the last five years.
Green Pearl has place claims for Beckett, who holds respectable averages for juveniles on debut. While Pigeon Hollow is a representative for Mick Channon's stable. The latter often struggle to win on debut even though pundits often inform the opposite opinion.
* Non runner.

A maiden for colts and one filly over this quick 5f.
This looks an ideal opportunity for Remotelinx to win after showing very good form behind Approve who was victorious in the Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) at Royal Ascot. Hills' youngster is unlikely to be near that class but this attractive bay colt by Oasis Dream is certainly a talented juvenile. The Sandown race went wrong from start to finish and Remotelinx would by all accounts gone very close that day if not a stylish winner. The fourth at Salisbury, Diamond Charlie, has run well since and capable of winning a maiden so the form lines bode well for a mighty effort today. It would be disappointing if this juvenile doesn't win.
Of the rest, Zarazar has experience although its second to Little Lion Man is difficult to assess. Loki's Revenge, 3rd that day, has run well since but may have improved for the debut. I would be surprised if Evans two-year-old has the ability of the favourite.
Pearl Storm is one of the more likelier debutantes although Haggis doesn't have the best strike rate with juveniles making their racecourse bow.
Marco Botti runs Acclamazing and his juveniles have good place claims when fancied in the betting but is another who struggles to win on debut.

A restricted auction race over 7f.
This looks a very weak affair.
Cathcart Castle is one of few to have shown some form when 4th behind Major Dude at Windsor over 6f. This bay colt by Imperial Dancer, owned and bred by Alan Brazil, was always struggling to go the pace and this extra furlong should make life easier today. The form of the Windsor race is average with a few runners not achieving a great deal since. This race will not take much winning, and may even amount to a drop in class. Channon has to be respected at this level and must go close.
John Dunlop has a healthy strike rate at Folkestone and Spanish Pride could well take some beating here. This filly by Night Shift by the mare Spanish Lady, who appreciated a fair trip, ran in a good race at Newmarket. Starting at 50/1 that day, not much was expected but this attractive filly ran on with some purpose after being several lengths last at halfway. The owners, Windflower Overseas Holdings Inc, have an impressive history of talented horses with Dunlop and many improve with racing. This 7f event will see a bold run today and connection must fancy their chances.
Of the rest, Zakon comes from a stable that has been in fine form with its two-year-olds this season. This juvenile went off a relatively short price on debut but never looked competitive after a slow start. An expensive purchase for this race at 39,000gns. This step up in distance will help but much more is needed to figure here.

An auction race over 6f.
Lady Royale looked a winner waiting to happen after her second in the Hilary Needler at Beverley but seems to take an age to get going and not the most straight forward of two-year-olds. The new addition of cheek pieces may bring about much needed concentration and she is certainly capable of winning a race. A stiff test or healthy pace would suit as Oldroyd's youngster can finish with a dash.
Another who has found winning a stride too far is Alfraamsey. He is capable colt although always seems to find one or two too good. The last effort at Doncaster, won with ease by the talented Formosina, was a shade disappointing in ways. With so many runs under his belt you have to be careful that he may regress at some point. At his best this son of Fraam has sound each way claims.
Eland Ally is an interesting runner for Tom Tate. This bay gelding by Striking Ambition plugged on well at Newcastle when behind Move In Time. The form has taken a few knocks, however, this youngster could well improve for the experience and looks the sort to finish a race.
Of the debutantes, Talley Close has been quite well backed on the exchanges and owners Skeltools Ltd are partial to backing a winner. Fahey has fair win and place averages on debut with fancied runners and does well at Newcastle.
Thunderway may have each way claims at a price although the apprentice jockey booking may be a negative.
In conclusion, a few form horses which are looking for that elusive win and each has place claims. The debutantes will need to be a fair standard to win his on their first start.

A maiden auction stakes for colts and fillies over 6f.
A sizable field with 14 declared but not too many with leading chances.
Royal Exchange will take some beating today. This attractive colt by Royal Applause has run two big races and both times been unlucky to meet such talented individuals as Klammer and Ballista. To all purposes this is a drop in class and the extra furlong shouldn't hinder his chances. A fair class two-year-old that could win this in style.
But what of the opposition?
Fight The Chance drops back in distance after a creditable run at Newbury behind Trade Storm, while Perfect Pastime and St Oswald finished behind a Hannon winner, Major Dude. The latter, trained by Roger Charlton, was always struggling to go the pace, which is most likely down to inexperience although a step up in distance may be needed. There doesn't look to be much between these pair. Both have each way claims but Royal Exchange has a touch of class and should gain a win today.

A maiden over 7f for fillies.
This looks a decent race with a number of potentially talented juveniles.
Sir Michael Stoute always has to be respected as a trainer of high-class two-year-olds, especially fillies, and Cape Dollar shaped with promise on debut. A compact daughter of Cape Cross, she clearly needed the experience on debut when outpaced mid-race but then ran on strongly without being asked any questions. This 7f will suit and an improved performance can be expected today. This looks a talented filly and it would be no surprise to see her racing in pattern class soon.
Another juvenile to catch the eye on debut was Zanazzi. This American-bred filly by Bernardini cost $360,000 and clearly held in high regard. Gosden had this two-year-old entered to run in the Chesham Listed Stakes at Ascot but decided to take this opportunity. Zanazzi wasn't best suited by Kempton and found things happening to quickly on the turning 6f. Coming into the straight, she found herself many lengths adrift but flew home in the final furlong and done well to finish second. That initial experience and a step up to 7f will make a big difference and a more professional performance can be expected. Another talented juvenile who will no doubt be running at a higher level if progressing from that debut run.
The other form horses will need to show a marked improvement to test the above mentioned and the debutantes will certainly need to have a fair level of ability to make an impact.
Of the debutantes, Richard Hannon's Celebrity is worth noting especially if fancied in the betting although this daughter of Pivotal, a 30,000gns purchase, will need to be fit and ready to hound the principles.
Saeed Bin Suroor is starting to unleash a few better juveniles and Sahafh is a costly purchase at $475,000. This American-bred by the sire Rock Hard Ten is one of the more likelier types. The betting usually indicates the chances of the Godolphin youngsters and there will be no hiding place here.
The betting will be the best guide to the hopes of the others.

Comment:'A decent effort from Gosden's filly, who is certain to win a race or two. The victor, Cape Dollar, is a high-class two-year-old on today's performance. Zanazzi ran a her race and you can ask no more than that.'

A restricted auction race for colts and fillies over 6f on good to firm ground.
A number of form horses taking part and a fair difference between top and bottom weight.
With Hindsight, a compact sort and son of Ad Valorem, has been placed on both starts. Cox is a good judge of his juveniles and places them well. The draw may have cost this youngster a win at Salisbury, when making a bold bid to cross from stall 4 to join the leaders and narrowly failed to land the spoils. In truth that looked an average maiden and a similar run to his debut performance, which suggests he can just about win a race of this nature. A determined juvenile who travels well, you can expect a good showing and has place claims.
Capaill Liath proved a costly failure for many punters last time when beaten at odds of 4/11. The form of this grey colt's debut behind Rerouted has taken a few knocks of late although to all purposes this has to be a drop in class. Hills does quite well with his two-year-olds at Windsor and this attractive son of Iffraaj can have no excuses today and connections will expecting a big run.
Peter Makin has been quiet with his two-year-olds but Laugh Or Cry was quite fancied on debut at Kempton. That was a very restricted auction race and you have to question the merit of that form as it could well be moderate. Makin features respectable win and place rate with his fancied juveniles on their second start and another to have place claims although more is needed today.
Richard Hannon continues the season in fine form and with a 16% strike rate for his two-year-olds at Windsor Mr Perceptive is worthy of consideration. One of the more expensive in this field at £20,000 he has to give weight away to some of these cheaper purchases. The betting will be the best indicator to this ones chances.
One of the more attractive juveniles in this field will be Michael Blanshard's Arctic Mirage. This son of Iceman is stocky and has some scope to improve with racing. Inexperience hampered his performance on debut when running in zig-zag fashion away from the whip when asked for a little extra in the last furlong. A well-backed outsider, he has course experience and should come on for the run. The form of that race is once again difficult to assess. From stall 1 it will make his task all the more difficult but a juvenile to keep an eye on as if looks are anything he could be winning soon.

Bet 2:30 Wolverhampton - Imperial Look 0.5PTEW (14/1) 6th
Comment: 'Statistical bet but unfortunately not one of McMahon's better juveniles. A very good trainer who will pay dividends long term.'
Bet: 7:10 Windsor - Arctic Mirage 0.5PTEW (9/1) 4th
Comment: 'The winner was in a different class but Arctic Mirage ran well. The draw made this a difficult task and then finding trouble in-running made it a battle for a place. Once again this colt ran about under pressure and annoying not to get a place.'

A maiden fillies' race over 6f on this turning course.
The betting suggests this is a two-horse race.
Mama Lulu was very warm order to take her debut starting at 6/4 favourite. This daughter of Kingmando travelled well and looked the winner but inexperience cost her dear that day and this drop back to 6f will probably help. To be bid up to $575,000 and not to be sold clearly shows this is a potentially useful filly and being a half-sister to Fasliyev catches the eye. Connections must have be disappointed not winning on debut and this youngster will take all the beating here.
Another juvenile to cost a fortune is Zabeel Park. This daughter of Medicean cost 500,000gns and is a half-sister to the dual guineas winner Finsceal Beo. On form, this youngster didn't attain that much on debut and could improve for the run. Many of Saeed Bin Suroor's juveniles improve with racing but this expensive buy will need to step up a good deal on her first start.
Of the rest, Royal Hush was fancied on debut but failed to show much ability but may be capable of better. The betting will be a good indicator to Ryan's chances. It is a plus that his two-year-olds are in flying form.
Princess Izzy would be a live chance if backed.

A maiden race over 7f for colts and one filly.
Tinkertown and Local Singer will be on many people's short list to gain their first victory after running very similar races at Redcar last time over 6f. To be fair, both looked to be outpaced with a couple of furlongs to go but rallied well under strong riding to close at the finish and a shade unlucky not to have nabbed the eventual winner Bay Of Fires. There is little to choose between the pair although Tinkertown was given a harder race at Redcar. This 7f should not be a problem and in a weak race connections will be disappointed if their respective runners don't go well. It will be a tough call to choose between this pair and if the lesser fancied in the betting drifts to an each way price that would be my idea of the solution.
Tim Easterby has three two-year-olds taking their chances today. Of these Anddante is an interesting candidate. This son of Antonious Pius is an out and out galloper. His third at Ripon reads well. Perhaps that run was something of a surprise to connections as he started a 25/1 shot that day but always travelled well and the form of the front two looks solid. The following run at Newcastle is difficult to assess and in many ways seems a shade disappointing. Hanagan pressed on with front-running tactics and it just might be the case he went a fraction too fast. Anddante tired in the last half furlong to finish a few lengths behind the principles in a race that at the time looked to set a fair standard. The second, Sophie's Hero, has since disappointed but that may have been due to the sticky ground at Carlisle. You have to consider that trainers know best with regard to stepping up in distance and this two-year-old could be a decent bet at a price. The run at Ripon didn't looked to be a fluke so I would consider his last race at Newcastle was a slightly disappointing effort and give this juvenile the benefit of the doubt today.
Mark Johnston has had a terrible start to the season with his two-year-olds with the majority finishing nearer last than first. He had his first winner at Leicester the other day so the stable may be coming out of the doldrums. This bay colt by Cadeaux Genereux cost £80,000 and owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum. With the stable having been in such poor form I would watch Mutajare today.

Not too much of interest today so a quick word about the Albany Stakes Group 3 for fillies over 6f.
Such high class events are never easy to conclude and I don't usually bet in such races unless I can get speculative odds but one filly has caught my eye so worth a mention. In truth, the majority of these look very unlikely to win, and mostly such prestigious races go to relatively fancied juveniles, although that doesn't make finding the winner any easier.
One of the main contenders has to be Margot Did. This bay filly by Exceed And Excel may have only cost 10,000gns as a two-year-old but she must be worth ten times that amount already. This filly has won both her starts in effortless fashion and both of those races had some depth. Bell's charge has an abundance of natural speed but settles very well, which is the key at Ascot - the importance to finish a race. This is a much stiffer task and only time will tell if she has the class of some of these rivals. However, there is much to like about this juvenile and she must have place claims today.

An auction race for colts and fillies over 5f.
Not too many look fancied for this.
Lokis Revenge is a good-looking colt by Khallachy and cost 52,000gns at the breeze-up sales. Jarvis is a talented trainer and they must have fancied their chances when running in a four-horse race at Leicester on debut. It is difficult to assess the merit of the form in ways but the winner is racing today in the Norfolk Stakes (Group 2). This youngster will improve for that initial start and will run a big race.
William Muir has been very quiet this season with Melodize being the sole representative for the two-year-olds. A difficult juvenile to assess with his second at Catterick looking respectable but a disappointing effort at Windsor last time. It was noted that this daughter of Iceman got rather hot that day, so perhaps better may be expected. On balance, she has something to prove and I would rather watch and learn a little more.
Of the debutantes, Mega Mount and Sugar Beet are most interesting.
Mega Mount cost 34,000euros and a son of Acclamation. Beckett has fair place claims with all of his juveniles on debut. On this turning course, often run a frantic pace, inexperience can be costly and it wouldn't pay to be slow away from the stalls.
The same applies to Sugar Beet. Roger Charlton has done well with his debutantes this term which isn't the usual trend for this trainer whose two-year-olds often improve for the run. His general win rate is quite poor, but juveniles relatively fancied in the betting do hold respectable statistics. Charlton fields two for this and Sugar Beet has claims although I would rather take a watching brief with this daughter of Beat Hollow.

A very restricted auction race over 5f for juveniles with a median sales price of no more than £12,000.
Quite an interesting event with a few form horses in search of their first win.
Defence Council is a fairly expensive son of Kheleyf at 55,000gns to slip into this grade. Not a bad looking colt and the type to run his race. Howard Johnson is good at placing his two-year-olds and showed he is capable of winning a race or two after a fair second here on debut. Dropped back to 5f at Carlisle, a win looked on the cards only for a determined effort by Honeymead, to catch him on the line. Another consistent run will be expected today and certainly a lively chance for a win.
Whisper Louise is a bonny filly and seemed to back to her best at Pontefract last time after an indifferent run at Newbury. Her debut effort certainly reads well with Master Macho a couple of lengths adrift and although the Pontefract race was a weak affair there was much to like about her performance. From a high draw, Sly's two-year-old had to run wide for most and pulled quite hard, so done well to finish the race with some purpose. The winner, Sonning Rose, is a talented juvenile and in fairness could have won by some way if not finding trouble in running. Dropping back to 5f may suit although you couldn't knock her performance last time. It may be to her benefit to be held up and finish her race rather than blaze a trail. Drawn 10 gives the option of racing either side if there is a bias, and it is would be wise to watch the earlier race (6:50 Ripon) to make sure there isn't a significant difference if they split. On her bets form, this daughter of Chevalier has each way claims.
A fantastic buy at only 3,000euros, Belle Bayardo is a handsome gelding and will be one of the best lookers in this field. Harris never rushes his two-year-olds and this son of Le Vie Dei Colori has progresses from two tardy starts on his initial racecourse experiences to run two fine races. Just losing out at Chepstow and then second favourite in a competitive auction at Sandown. That performance shown his level of ability but also his limitations. Belle Bayardo is a consistent type and you can pretty much guarantee he will run a race and must have place claims and a sneaky chance of a win. On form, he may fall a length or two short of the favourites, but they have to run their races, too. The wide draw in 17 may be a plus or minus. The earlier race will be informative on this point. If the high draw have an advantage, he would have very strong claims here.
Of the rest, Silent Blessing went off a well-backed favourite at Southwell but showed little and needs to find huge improvement.
Novalist, may slip under the radar after unseating his rider last time at Catterick. On debut, this colt ran on quite well and may be capable of better if on his best behaviour.
Hollyhocks has been entered to run at plating class, which doesn't inspire confidence.
Of the debutantes, Blaze Of Thunder must be respected as Richard Fahey has umpteen talented two-year-olds and will know if this son of Ad Valorem is capable of a big run today. A breeze-up purchase of £26,000, this colt should be fit and ready. Fahey features a good place rate with his fancied juveniles when making their racecourse bow. Money for this youngster would certainly be an encouraging sign.

A maiden for colts and fillies over the extended 5f(213y) on good ground.
Battle Of Brittain, an expensive purchase at 180,000gns, is progressing with racing. After being send off favourite for a Yarmouth maiden, this son of Invincible Spirit finished 3rd behind two other Godolphin runners at Leicester. It is difficult to assess the level of form set on those starts and although this two-year-old has shown a glimmer of ability it wouldn't take a talent to steal his crown today. Ideally suited by further distance in time, Mahmood Al Zarooni is taking his time to educate this youngster and today we will learn a little more.
Another beaten favourite, Freckenham, never looked like winning on debut and Turner was always rousting this chestnut filly along, who to be fair didn't look the most willing at times, although an attractive sort. Perhaps this daughter of Exceed And Excel was struggling with inexperience and may well improve significantly for the that initial start. This doesn't look the strongest of maidens and Bell features good win and place statistics on his second start with fancied runners, so there could be more to come.
Indian Narjes disappointed on her second start at Windsor, a race that isn't working out. Channon's charge then toiled a distant second to Coeus on her most recent appearance. As yet this filly has something to prove and probably best watched on this occasion.
On first thoughts Fantasy Fry, would seem to have a stiff task after being trounced by Battle Of Brittain on debut at Leicester. It may be the case that little changes from that race to this, although it is worth noting that Morrison does well at this course and his juveniles often improve a good deal for the run. His early runners are often some of the best two-year-olds in his stable and at speculative odds this colt by Avonbridge may sneak a place.

A restricted median auction over the extended 5f(193y).
The betting suggests this is a three-horse race.
Karl Ryan has his two-year-olds in flying form at present and there was much to like about the debut run of Sophie's Hero at Newcastle. This chestnut gelding by Intikhab went off unfancied at 28/1 but ran on in determined fashion to take 2nd in what could be a fair race. Owner, Dr Marwan Koukash, has a number of juveniles in training and this youngster, now ridden by Jamie Spencer, must take the beating here.
No Poppy is progressing with racing and a good buy at 1,000gns. This daughter of Chineur was drawn 1 at Carlisle on debut over 5f and found herself completely outpaced before running on well in the final two furlongs. Much better suited to the 6f at Redcar, in what looks to be a fair maiden, Easterby's filly was still on the verge of being outpaced but just about held her position, closing at the finish. With a higher draw today, connections will be hoping No Poppy can sit handy. It may be the case that she is fractionally outpaced, however, this course can often suit as strong finisher.
Last of the trio - Philharmonic Hall. This bay colt trained by Richard Fahey was quite fancied on his debut at Beverley but had little chance bumping into the highly regarded Ladies Are Forever who fairly breezed to victory. The second, Ice Trooper, is a speedy sort and it was no surprise to see Philharmonic Hall struggle to go the pace and soon many lengths adrift. This bay colt looked fit and ready that day and Hamilton gave this youngster a forceful ride in his endeavour to make ground in the final two furlongs. Six furlong will definitely assist the chances, although of the three Fahey's juvenile has the most to prove.

A maiden for colts and fillies over 6f on good to firm ground.
With prize money of £7,771 to the winner, this could be a decent contest.
Arabian Star, a good-looking colt by Green Desert, went off relatively unfancied on debut at Haydock at the odds of 20/1, finishing a creditable 5th. He has subsequently ran out an easy second to the talented Neebras. Channon has his juveniles in good form and this youngster certainly looks the part. One note of caution is that even though this two-year-old was runner-up to a talented individual, the form to some extent is still unproven. The 4th Frankish Dynasty did nothing when competing at York yesterday, although that performance did appear to be too bad to be true.
Another form horse to have shown some sparkle is Major Conquest. After running in a very good maiden at Newbury and probably in need of the run, this son of Librettist ran much better at Goodwood when relatively fancied in the betting. A handsome colt with a fluent stride, Hills' charge finished that race with some spirit and wasn't knocked about to finish 4th in a blanket finish. The running of the 3rd Dr Green gives reason to think that was a fair race and certainly bestows enough ability to win an average maiden. Hills' juveniles can often run indifferent races but Major Conquest must be respected and has claims on that recent effort.
Considering this race is sponsored in the memory of the Late Miss Bridget Squires it is fitting to note Dubai Affair who runs in her colours and owned by the Exors of the Late Miss B Squires. This very-well bred filly done little on debut when finishing last in a competitive race at Leicester. Looking inexperienced and most likely needing the run, she needs something of a transformation to feature here. On a positive note, it is interesting that Morrison has this filly out so early in the season as many of his first two-year-old runners have proven to be the more talented juveniles in his stable, with many going on to win. Dubai Affair would seem to have a stiff task but if taking after any of her ancestors at speculative odds she could have place claims.
Of the rest, Cold Secret went off at short odds on debut but was always trailing. Elsworth's two-year-old often improve significantly for the run, however, this colt by Iceman has questions to answer after that performance.
The debutantes will need to be forward and have a level of ability to win on their racecourse bow. Richard Hannon fields three two-year-olds and Aldwick Bay, a 50,000euros colt by Danehill Dancer, is the most fancied in the betting. It is always something of a lottery to appreciate the strength of jockey bookings with this stable and betting moves are the best indicator to performance.
Florestands Match is worth noting for Beckett although Mrs R J Jacobs' juveniles often seem to improve for the run. Beckett does well with his two-year-olds at Salisbury, a place where some of his best youngsters have made their appearance.

A restricted median auction race for fillies over 5f on soft ground.
The majority of these have shown little ability or debutantes from unfashionable yards.
Placed at 40/1 on debut in a Windsor maiden fillies' race, Kokojo ran with promise that day. Powell has run a limited number of two-year-olds over the last few seasons with moderate success and his juveniles feature poor win and place statistics. The form of the Windsor race has taken a couple of knocks with the 2nd and 5th both failing on their next starts. In such a poor race it would not take the greatest of achievements to win but a juvenile I would rather watch than back today.
The Thrill Is Gone must have strong claims here, after bouncing back from an indifferent run at Sandown - a competitive race - to show more sparkle with a staying-on second at Kempton behind the talented Excello. It was a fair performance to beat Button Moon and this contest could well be the opportunity to get her head in front. There may be a slight concern over the draw and ground, which is always a difficult assess. In such a weak race, connections will be disappointed if this filly by Bahamian Bounty doesn't go close.
Never Can Stop never really got started at Bath last time. After finishing 2nd to Inagh River on debut at Nottingham, this bay filly by Noverre was sent off favourite for her second start but Portman's youngster failed to deliver after leading, weakening rapidly to finish down the field. With hindsight, that was a strong heat with the first and second showing a touch of class. Perhaps the firm ground went against this small filly, but it is concerning what little she showed that day. The form of her debut run looks on the weak side, however, it isn't beyond the realms that she simply had an off day on her second start and she may build on that initial promise.
It is good to see Jamie Osbourne having success with his two-year-olds this campaign after a horrendous 2009. Kodiac Star is an interesting filly. This daughter of Kodiac, a 6,000gns purchase, is progressing with racing. This attractive, deep-chested filly has run in a couple of decent races and there could be more to come. A speedy type, this 5f should allow that nature ability to come to the fore. Related to a number of sprint winners, Osbourne will have Kodiac Star primed to run her best race yet.

A maiden for colts and fillies over 5f.
Decent prize money on offer, nearly £7,000 to the winner, so this could be a fairly competitive race.
The two standout form horses are Master Macho and Imperialistic Diva. Both are talented juveniles and unlucky not to have won by now. The former has been knocking on the door more than a postman with his hand stuck in a letter box and this bonny colt seems to have the misfortune of always finding one too good. Master Macho is probably better suited to 5f, after slightly struggling to last the 6f on a couple of occasions. He is a durable type, taking his racing well, but may be prone to having one race too many at some point. This will be a tough contest and you have to consider this could be a more competitive race than many he has lost. A battling two-year-old, without doubt, but may find one too good again.
Imperialistic Diva is a capable filly by Haafhd. Tim Easterby's charge ran a stormer on debut in a race that is working out well with the 3rd winning this week. She didn't have much go right at Ayr when bumped coming out of the stalls and then hampered in the closing stages. This juvenile has ability to win and will no doubt have the stamina to run to the line. Over such a quick 5f, even on better ground, it could be the case she is a fraction outpaced, although that is a matter of debate. She looks a willing type and quite athletic, so connections will be hoping for a strong performance today.
Tilliemint would seem to have a stiff task of reversing the form with Master Macho.
Cerejeira must have been pleasing Alston on the gallops as this bay filly by Exceed And Excel was relatively fancied on debut but after travelling in behind faded tamely in the final furlong. An entrant for the Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) at Ascot, Alston has chosen this option. A difficult horse to asses. Perhaps capable of better but a lot more needed today.
Of the debutants Smart, Fahey and Dods have interesting runners.
Brian Smart has done well with his juveniles this season and Da' Quonde, a 60,000gns purchase, is a well bred filly. Her pedigree suggests she would be better over further and although Smart has winning debutantes he doesn't feature the greatest statistics with juveniles making their racecourse bow.
Richard Fahey is another trainer to have shone from the start of the season and Mayson is worth noting. Owner, David Armstrong, has fielded some talented juveniles in his time and this colt by Invincible Spirit must have something going for it to be entered here. Fahey attains a fair win and place rate with his fancied juveniles on debut and one of the more likely trainers to have his two-year-olds fit and ready to run.
Probably the most interesting of the debutantes is Miss Mediator trained by Micheal Dods and owned by Andrew Tinkler. This combination have done well with their two-year-olds this season and this filly cost 160,000gns at the breeze-up sales. She was pencilled in to run in the Queen Mary Stakes at Ascot but connection must consider that a step too far at this stage. It will be no easy feat for any of the debutantes to give away experience to the likes of Master Macho and Imperialistic Diva, as a slow start will make this a tough task. However, of those mentioned, Miss Mediator could have place claims.

A maiden for colts and geldings over this extended 6f.
Mahmood Al Zarooni has started his career for Godolphin on a positive note and his two-year-olds have shown ability. Dortmund, a 100,000gns son of Dubawi ran a great race on debut, narrowly losing out to odds-on shot Rerouted in a maiden at Haydock. The 5th Arabian Star has since run a respectable race. This bay colt should progress from that initial experience and must have strong claims here.
Another son of Dubawi with claims is Welsh Dancer. Seemingly second string for a valuable maiden at Ascot, Hannon's representative ran on with real purpose that day and could well have won with further. Stepping up in distance looks a positive move and this two-year-old comes from a race that has found a number of winners.
Trade Storm is quite a big colt and very much a galloper, not one to do anything in a hurry, but shown ability last time at Nottinghan when outpointed by Planet Waves. The 4th and 5th have since won with ease (Roayh and Excelebration) but both ran down the centre of the course, which seemed much slower than the stands' rails and neither were at their best that day so it would be unwise to consider Trade Storm is to that level. Gallaghers' two-year-old sets a basic standard of form and has place claims but may find a couple of these too good.
Of the unraced, Red Presence is worth noting for Tom Dascombe as he features a decent strike rate with fancied juveniles on debut. This chestnut colt by Redback cost 52,000euros and could be fit and ready. Owners, The Folly Racers, found success with Orpen Grey last year as a capable two-year-old with Dascombe, and this youngster could run a big race if fancied in the betting.
The betting will dictate the chances of many of the debutantes.

A very restricted auction race over the extended five furlongs.
This looks a poor race.
Leiba Lieba sets the standard here and will probably go on to an easy win although this bay colt does have a chink in his armour. To be fair, on both starts Marco Botti's youngster has travelled with ease and traded at big odds on only to be defeated. The form is good enough to win a race of this nature but the tactics they employ today will be of great importance. If Sanders tries to force the issue and lead all the way it could be a possibility this two-year-old stops in front as he definitely struggles to get to the finishing line and looks a short runner. I would be tempted to lay his juvenile at big odds-on in-running and hope he gets caught after an easy lead. With past experience, Botti may employ more holding-up tactics which would scupper such plans but an interesting angle that may pay dividends.
The rest of the field look a motley crew with the majority having shown limited ability. The Best Mode has speed to burn but struggles to finish his races, while Dotty Dorroch finished third to a talented juvenile in Excel Bolt but probably achieved little.
The most interesting candidate for a place could well be Blade Pirate. A decent-looking colt by Needwood Blade, he was backed on debut but done little, however, the stable had reported a problem since and their string may be returning to form. Although beaten a long way fourth at Newmarket, that was a strong contest and Ryan's youngster showed good speed for a long way. That basic level of form is pretty ordinary but this is an ordinary race and he may scrape a place at decent odds.
In addition, Volcanic Dust is worth noting as this bay filly by Ivan Denisovich is a good-looking sort and travelled quite well at Newmarket until tiring rapidly in the final furlong. Connections, Byculla Thoroughbreds, often send out their juveniles needing the run and dropping back in distance this youngster may show more today. Certainly one of the best looking juveniles in this field.

An intriguing auction race for colts and fillies over 6f.
Geoff Oldroyd has been in fantastic form with his small string of two-year-olds and Lady Royale (and the recent highly rated Ladies Are Forever) has publicised the talents of this capable trainer and his link with Reg Bond. This chestnut filly by Monsieur Bond has progressed with racing after a promising debut at Doncaster. Her most recent effort, 2nd in the Hilary Needler Listed Stakes at Beverley, defied a 40/1 price and in many ways could be viewed as an unlucky loser. It is probably fair to say that this wasn't a vintage Hilary Needler and Lady Royale ran off the pace and care has to be taken that she wasn't slightly flattered by her finishing position. However, in contrast, her second to Galtymore Lad didn't look that impressive at the time but the winner, trained by Mick Channon, won a stakes race with ease afterwards so it could be a strong performance.
Clearly on her running with Stubb's Ice Trooper he has to find a good deal of improvement. In fairness, Stubb's colt may well have progressed from his debut and this extra furlong could be to his advantage but it would need a much-improved run to reverse the form. Lady Royale is one of the main contenders here but at restricted odds may be there to be shot at.
Another trainer flying high at present with his two-year-olds is Paul Cole. Tinkertown a grey colt (almost white) cost 55,000euros and will find this drop in class more to his liking after an indifferent run at York. Perhaps this youngster needed the race on debut but he was readily outpaced mid-race before threading his way through the field to finish 6th. Cole features good statistics with his juveniles on their second start when fancied in the betting and being the only ride for Spencer and sole representative for Cole at Redcar will not be lost on many a punter. Clearly this son of Verglas is one of the more interesting runners here and improvement could be on the cards but Mrs Fitri Hay's youngster will need to run much better than on debut. Stastically this colt has a big chance but a slight concern about that initial run although horses can improve beyond recognition from first to second start and blog Paul Cole Racing state that: 'Tinkertown should run nicely at Redcar. He has come on from his last race and going well at home'.
The Mick Channon and Jaber Abdullah combination has reaped rewards over the years (especially with talented fillies) and there was much to like about Local Singer on debut at Goodwood. This colt by Elusive City is a lovely looking two-year-old and was given a nice introduction that day without being knocked about and can progress with that experience. Many of Jaber Abdullah's youngsters improve a good deal for their debut runs and that was a creditable 4th. The form of those behind has suffered a few disappointments since but this juvenile should travel well and must have place claims at least.
Of the rest, Bay Of Fires ran a fine race on debut for Hetherton at Haydock in what looks to be quite a strong auction event. The second has since run well and although this filly would be better off in the weights for an auction event she is one of a few here with some ability. This daughter of Iffraaj was definitely trying on debut and it would probably be unwise to imagine huge improvement will be found beyond normal experience. Hetherton is a talented trainer and this youngster should win a race at some point.
Another Wise Kid ran well on debut is a Stakes race at Thirsk that has found a number of winners. A relatively cheap purchase at 4,500gns, this son of Whipper is quite an attractive sort but has a pronounced running action and may benefit from better ground. Midgley's string has been out of sorts and this may account for being away from the track for such a long period. Not the easiest of candidates to assess but it wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see this two-year-old run well at a speculative price.

Quite a competitive heat with three form horses showing ability.
Mick Channon has been in decent form with his two-year-olds and Sonning Rose ran well on debut at Goodwood. This bay filly by Hawk Wing took a while to get into her stride that day and found herself a long way off the lead. However, in the last couple of furlongs she made steady progress, clawing back many lengths, to go close and may have even won with a fraction further. A cheap purchase at 11,000gns, although quite an attractive sort, the betting didn't suggest a run of such promise. On breeding, this filly may appreciate further and perhaps the stiff Pontefract finish will suit. With running from so far off the pace that day, she could have been slightly flattered although it didn't look that way to be fair. An interesting juvenile and one that could have ability and today's performance will be a test to see how true that initial run should be taken.
Abibhabidubai has course experience after running a respectable race here on debut. Quinn does well with the few youngsters he trains and already saddled a winner in Snow Bear. This filly is likely to appreciate this extra furlong. The form of the Pontefract race is difficult to asses in ways as the winner won quite easily and looks to have progressed with racing. The third has been beaten since. On balance, it was probably no more than a fair effort. Quinn doesn't feature the highest win and place statistics with fancied youngsters on their second start, although one of the more likely types here. It is a concern that this daughter of Dubai Destination has been off course for such a long time.
From the same race as Abibhabidubai, Sapphire Girl went off favourite but failed to show that day. She may have disappointed to some extent and the betting is likely to detail her chances today. It is a negative that she has been entered to run at plating class.
Pam Sly doesn't have the biggest string of two-year-olds but she is a capable trainer and Whisper Louise was certainly fancied to run a big race on debut at Beverley where she displayed much promise. Originally owned by Sly, this bay filly by Chevalier was sold before her second start and found herself in a very stiff auction race. In many ways that looked a disappointing effort and perhaps she ran a fraction below form but that may have been due to being off the course for a period of time. The Newbury race is holding up well and this course is likely to suit and perhaps better ground with the forecast of more rain.

Quite a competitive heat with three form horses showing ability.
Mick Channon has been in decent form with his two-year-olds and Sonning Rose ran well on debut at Goodwood. An EBF maiden over 5f.
This looks a moderate contest.
Henrys Air was a shock 100/1 second at Wolverhampton last time when easily outpointed by Yarooh. Bridgewater's youngster had previously shown a glimmer of talent at Warwick, a race that has turned out to have some depth. This bay colt by Piccolo certainly showed good speed on his last start and similar tactics will probably be employed today. On balance, I don't think this two-year-old is particularly talented as the third - Black Moth - almost certainly improved from that debut performance to win on his next start. However, in such a poor-looking race it wouldn't be wise to consider this two-year-old will not have a leading chance although it is likely he will find one too good.
Most of the form horses don't make much appeal although they wouldn't have to find much improvement to have a chance. Waking Warrior is one to give a second chance after being quite fancied at Newcastle, a race that has found a couple of decent types in the first and second. Ryan's charge didn't achieve much of note on debut but any juvenile can struggle on their first start and if backed this runner could have more to offer. His trainer has fair statistics at the course and the jockey has featured a decent strike rate. If relatively fancied in the betting this is one to make the shortlist.
Of the debutantes, Robert Cowell's Silent Blessing is one of the more likelier types. A cheap purchase at 7,000gns, this son of Diktat is a full brother to Silent Wonder (trained by Cowell) who was quite a precocious youngster. If taking after his brother, this two-year-old could be fit and ready to run a big race on debut. Khalifa Dasmal has been a loyal owner to Cowell and they have been a successful partnership.

5:15 Lingfield
A maiden fillies' race over 6f where a high draw can be an advantage.
Not too many with form and a number of juveniles from stables which struggle to win on debut.
Silca Conegliano has progressed with racing and shows a decent level of pace over 6f. Channon's two-year-old was narrowly beaten at Bath, after looking the winner for much of the way. Another fair effort was seen at Newcastle where this daughter of Alhaarth was comprehensively beaten by the talented Idiom. Having beaten Lady Platinum Club by a couple of lengths that was a capable effort and connections must be hopeful here. This filly was entered for the Woodcote Listed race at Epsom but this has been selected as an easier alternative.
It is difficult to get a grip on the performance of Fifth Commandment at Newbury last time. After a fair second behind the talented Rimth, you couldn't help but be disappointed with her last run. In fairness that race does seem to be quite strong but it was a pretty poor showing in truth. Osborne's two-year-old was never travelling with the purpose shown at Windsor. The 6f looked ideal but it may be the case she is regressing. A small filly, it would take a brave soul to jump in without some concern.
Al Andalyaa was a costly purchase at $100,000 and this daughter of Kingmambo was very well backed on the exchanges from big prices before starting a 11/2 shot at Lingfield on debut. Lanigan's filly never looked likely to do much that day and you have to consider that she may have disappointed to some extent. Once again, this two-year-old is quite fancied on the exchanges. A trainer who features very good place statistics with juveniles on their second start but often struggle to win. An interesting runner here and if particularly fancied in the betting could be significant.
Of the rest, Miss Dutee should be respected from the Hannon stable as this juvenile was second string on debut and could improve although certainly needs to.
Fanny May, for D. J. Coakley, has a fair place rate with his juveniles on debut and worth a second glance at a speculative price.

1:50 Catterick
An EBF maiden for colts and fillies over 5f.
Quite a large field for this and a number of form horses on show.
Orchid Street must have strong claims for this after finishing a good second at Thirsk on debut, a race that has provided a number of winners since. A breeze-up purchase of 48,000gns and fairly speedy sort, she was given a considerate ride in the Hilary Needler Listed race at Beverley where she always remained mid division. Duffield clearly holds this filly in high regard and connections will be looking for a win today.
Sir Mark Prescott has been in fine form with his two-year-olds over the last few days and Miss Clairton is entitled to improve for her debut at Catterick when everything happened too fast and this daughter of Marju who was run off her feet before fairly flying home at the finish. That maiden was a pretty moderate event with a number of juveniles having been entered to run in plating class. It is something of a negative that Miss Clairton has been entered to run in a claiming race, too. There isn't much of this filly and even though Prescott features decent statistics with his juveniles on their second start, from a high draw it may be wise to tread carefully with this two-year-old.
The Moore-trained Kheya is progressing with racing and has been well backed on both starts. After a complete no-show at Ripon this bay filly ran with promise at Musselburgh. That was a moderate race in ways but she knuckled down at the finish and looks the type to give her best. From a low draw, this daughter of Kheleyf may make a bold bid from the front and could well have place claims at a fair price. It should be noted that she has a rather pronounced running action, which may be suited to better ground. An individual with a level if not limited ability, who may struggle to cope with one or two of these.
A couple who are worth a mention as speculative hopes are Novalist and Lady Kildare.
Novalist was a 100/1 shot on debut at Catterick and ran in an fair little maiden that day behind First Class Favour, who went on to run a very respectable race in the Hilary Needler, and third placed Choose Wisely who has since franked the form. Bastiman's youngster was a few lengths behind these capable sorts but has room for improvement after being too inexperienced to hold a position but ran on well in the latter stages. This chestnut colt could be a dark horse for this and even though not best drawn may have place claims if improving for that debut run.
Lady Kildare ran in the same event as Orchid Street, seemingly beaten fair and square, by a few lengths. A sturdy-looking juvenile, she showed good pace but tired in the final furlong. It would perhaps be something of a surprise for the Jedd O'Keeffe youngster to reverse the form but could have place claims at a price because the Thirsk event was quite a competitive heat.

An auction race over 5f6y where a high draw can be an advantage.
A competitive heat with a number of form horses having shown ability.
Remotelinx is an attractive chestnut colt and looks to be a talent. The debut performance at Goodwood was difficult to assess but the latest run at Salisbury looks to be a classy effort. The winner of that race, Approve, has additional form lines with Chilworth Lad who finished second in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown. John Hills can be an indifferent trainer at times and not someone I have confidence in but this son of Choisir must have strong claims although with plenty of talented juveniles in opposition this may not be a straightforward affair. Diamond Charlie, trained by Simon Dow, was 4th in the same race at Salisbury and relatively fancied. After a slow start this colt by Diamnond Green ran on well at the line. Improvement could be on the cards, however, a reversal of form with Remotelinx would seem a stiff task.
A progressive sort, Belle Bayardo, a good-looking juvenile having cost only 3,000euros, ran well at Chepstow last time out. Harris is a capable trainer and this colt has gradually learned with experience after terribly slow starts on his first two runs. As a physical specimen you cannot knock this two-year-old but I have my doubts whether the Chepstow auction race was the strongest of contests. This event may well find this youngster out and he certainly cannot afford to be slow away from the stalls today.
It may be a concern why Cocohatchee hasn't been seen out since mid April, after a superb debut against the talented Cape To Rio. Hannon's winner was a class apart that day and Phelan's colt by Avonbridge was unlucky to find such stiff competition on debut. Beating the third placed Saucy Buck by a number of lengths illustrates a juvenile with potential and this bay colt must have strong claims if at his best. The absence of over fifty days does bring concerns that there has been a problem of some kind. One of the more interesting candidates here.
There is much to like about the attitude of Master Macho. Channon has kept this two-year-old busy with six races and being placed on five occasions is a great achievement. In truth, it has only been down to bad luck that he hasn't won a race or two. The slight problem with this youngster is that he ideally needs 51/2f. This five furlongs may be too fast and the six furlongs seems a touch too far. Perhaps being able to run-on in this race today will be a good thing as it may be a run at a furious pace. There is always a slight concern Master Macho may regress and that is likely to happen sooner rather than later. A juvenile that many may overlook as being exposed, but one that may still have a surprise or too in store.
The last of the main contenders is Eucharist. This youngster had shown little on debut but was somewhat transformed for her second start at Sandown when backed. That turned out to be a strong contest and perhaps this filly went a shade too fast that day. It is difficult to assess that point in some ways but this two-year-old must have a level of ability. The draw is a big concern and it will be a task made all the more difficult from stall 1. One to consider although a difficult race to be overly confident with such a competitive look.

A restricted median auction over 5f on the turning course where a high draw can be an advantage.
Not the most competitive of heats.
Button Moon sets the standard and even with a low draw must hold every chance of taking this race. Woods is a talented trainer and is very good at placing his juveniles. This athletic filly ran a fine race on debut when behind Dinkum Diamond (went on to win the Listed National Stakes at Sandown) and beaten just over a length by Foghorn Leghorn. That is a fair measure of ability for this level and this daughter of Compton Place probably improved for the experience when second at Carlisle. Costing 38,000gns and half-sister to Etlaala, it is only time before a victory comes her way. The draw is far from ideal and could be problem. With pace and experience, it is likely Woods will instruct Thomas to go to the front, with a number of debutantes and others with limited ability.
David Elsworth has trained many a talented juvenile in his career and he unearthed another potential gem in the shape of Swiss Dream over the weekend. Cold Secret, a chestnut colt by Iceman, has been backed on the exchanges and will go off one of the leading fancies for this. A relatively cheap foal at 2,500gns he was re-sold for 60,000gns and half-brother to Theymistim (trained by Linda Stubbs and winner on debut). Much better drawn in stall 9 this youngster may be forward enough to put down a big performance although Elsworth doesn't have an impressive win rate on debut. On a turning course, and more than likely needing the experience, I would much rather watch this two-year-old today.
The Thrill Is Gone showed ability of debut when a 50/1 shot. In ways that form has taken a few knocks but Channon's two-year-old looked to have the possibility to improve from that debut. She fell into a strong race at Sandown and in retrospect had a stiff task but gave an indifferent performance - never involved and looked regressive. Perhaps this lower level will see a better run although it may be the case her 50/1 price on debut is a reflection that this filly is limited. One to give the benefit of the doubt with a high draw but most definitely a watching brief today.
Of the rest, My Mate Al showed speed at Wolverhampton in a poor race. He will probably be another to make a bold bid from a low draw but may struggle to last to last the line.
Excello may have a glimmer of hope at a price.

A maiden race for fillies over 5f2y.
Clive Brittain is reaping the rewards of an increased string from Saeed Manana with a number of talented two-year-olds - Elshabakiya fits that bill. This filly by Diktat comes from a strong Sandown race and was one of many fancied juveniles that day. On form she has the beating of Countess Ellen although Dascombe's youngster is likely to improve for that debut, running on quite well. Brittain's Elshabakiya will take the beating here but it would be a significant sign if Countess Ellen was fancied in the betting.
Peter Chapple-Hyam does well with his juveniles on debut (they feature better statistics on debut than on their second start which is unusual) and Crying Lightening, a relatively cheap purchase, has been backed on the exchanges. This bay filly will need to be good to challenge the likes of Brittain's favourite with experience onside.
Brendan Duke is an eternal optimist and he must have been thinking that his prayers had been answered when Catalinas Diamond cruised to an easy lead in a Bath auction only to throw her chances away when showing signs of inexperience and to some extent stopping in front. It is most likely the Bath race was pretty poor although you cannot knock the front two as they were well clear of the third. This filly by One Cool Cat travelled with ease that day and it wouldn't be beyond the realms she has a fair level of ability. From a more fashionable yard, this runner would be much shorter price. A nice prospect for the Duke stable.
Brian Meehan had his first two-year-old winner yesterday (well backed) and Star Today is worth noting for this event. Meehan won this race last year with the talented debutante Lady Of The Desert. Star Today, a 60,000gns foal and 80,000gns yearling, has to be respected although seems rather weak on the exchanges at present. Meehan often struggles to win on debut, with only the most talented bucking such a trend. The betting will indicate the chances of this one and if backed it would be a sign of encouragement.
Beyond these five, the rest would seem to have little chance.

Meehan often struggles to win on debut, with only the most talented bucking such a trend. The betting will indicate the chances of this one and if backed it would be a sign of encouragement.
Beyond these five, the rest would seem to have little chance.
