3:00 Catterick

A restricted auction race for colts and fillies over this extended 5f(212y).

Quite an interesting race.

Howard Johnson has been in good form with his juveniles of late with a number running big races on debut. Cathedral Spires was one such individual, confounding his 66/1 sp with a bold show. This gelding by Intikhab comes from a very capable outfit in Transcend Bloodstock and will have his supporters as favourite today. There was much to like about that initial effort although there were a number of big priced horses seemingly running well that day and it may pay to be cautious. Howard Johnson has fair win and place statistics with fancied juveniles on their second start but perhaps one to be careful with at short odds.

Local Singer and No Poppy raced against each other at Redcar over 6f. Both seem to take a while to get motoring but the form of that race looks fair. The former, trained by Mick Channon, ran well since when stepped up to 7f and should not be inconvenienced back at 6f, and likely to be running on well at the line. No Poppy may have improved with the addition of the blinkers last time and seemed to show more pace. It will be interesting to see how they compare today.

Intrusion comes from a stable that can do little wrong at present and Paul Hanagan will no doubt bring a good number of punters to back this juvenile simply because he is firing in the winners. That was a fair effort on debut and there should be improvement for this extra furlong. Fahey features good win and place statistics with his juveniles on their second start when relatively fancied and an improved performance can be expected especially if backed.

Of the debutantes Grazeon Again could be a dark horse. Quinn has done well with his two-year-olds this season with Snow Bear winning on her first start at Catterick. This bay colt by Diamond Green was a breeze-up purchase for £36,000. Quinn doesn't have the best win rate on debut and it may be the case this youngster needs the run. However, he features a 32% win rate at the course and it is certainly a sign of encouragement that this two-year-old has been entered for two stakes races. It may be significant if this juvenile is backed and one of the more interesting contenders for this auction event.
