7:00 Brighton

A maiden for colts and fillies over the extended 5f(213y) on good ground.

Battle Of Brittain, an expensive purchase at 180,000gns, is progressing with racing. After being send off favourite for a Yarmouth maiden, this son of Invincible Spirit finished 3rd behind two other Godolphin runners at Leicester. It is difficult to assess the level of form set on those starts and although this two-year-old has shown a glimmer of ability it wouldn't take a talent to steal his crown today. Ideally suited by further distance in time, Mahmood Al Zarooni is taking his time to educate this youngster and today we will learn a little more.

Another beaten favourite, Freckenham, never looked like winning on debut and Turner was always rousting this chestnut filly along, who to be fair didn't look the most willing at times, although an attractive sort. Perhaps this daughter of Exceed And Excel was struggling with inexperience and may well improve significantly for the that initial start. This doesn't look the strongest of maidens and Bell features good win and place statistics on his second start with fancied runners, so there could be more to come.

Indian Narjes disappointed on her second start at Windsor, a race that isn't working out. Channon's charge then toiled a distant second to Coeus on her most recent appearance. As yet this filly has something to prove and probably best watched on this occasion.

On first thoughts Fantasy Fry, would seem to have a stiff task after being trounced by Battle Of Brittain on debut at Leicester. It may be the case that little changes from that race to this, although it is worth noting that Morrison does well at this course and his juveniles often improve a good deal for the run. His early runners are often some of the best two-year-olds in his stable and at speculative odds this colt by Avonbridge may sneak a place.

Comment: 'A statistical bet and disappointing to rear as the stalls opened and then veered to the left. To be fair, this colt ran on well and a pity about the circumstances of this race.'
