2:10 Salisbury

A maiden auction stakes for colts and fillies over 6f.

A sizable field with 14 declared but not too many with leading chances.

Royal Exchange will take some beating today. This attractive colt by Royal Applause has run two big races and both times been unlucky to meet such talented individuals as Klammer and Ballista. To all purposes this is a drop in class and the extra furlong shouldn't hinder his chances. A fair class two-year-old that could win this in style.

But what of the opposition?

Fight The Chance drops back in distance after a creditable run at Newbury behind Trade Storm, while Perfect Pastime and St Oswald finished behind a Hannon winner, Major Dude. The latter, trained by Roger Charlton, was always struggling to go the pace, which is most likely down to inexperience although a step up in distance may be needed. There doesn't look to be much between these pair. Both have each way claims but Royal Exchange has a touch of class and should gain a win today.
