7:25 Newbury

A maiden over 7f for fillies.

This looks a decent race with a number of potentially talented juveniles.

Sir Michael Stoute always has to be respected as a trainer of high-class two-year-olds, especially fillies, and Cape Dollar shaped with promise on debut. A compact daughter of Cape Cross, she clearly needed the experience on debut when outpaced mid-race but then ran on strongly without being asked any questions. This 7f will suit and an improved performance can be expected today. This looks a talented filly and it would be no surprise to see her racing in pattern class soon.

Another juvenile to catch the eye on debut was Zanazzi. This American-bred filly by Bernardini cost $360,000 and clearly held in high regard. Gosden had this two-year-old entered to run in the Chesham Listed Stakes at Ascot but decided to take this opportunity. Zanazzi wasn't best suited by Kempton and found things happening to quickly on the turning 6f. Coming into the straight, she found herself many lengths adrift but flew home in the final furlong and done well to finish second. That initial experience and a step up to 7f will make a big difference and a more professional performance can be expected. Another talented juvenile who will no doubt be running at a higher level if progressing from that debut run.

The other form horses will need to show a marked improvement to test the above mentioned and the debutantes will certainly need to have a fair level of ability to make an impact.

Of the debutantes, Richard Hannon's Celebrity is worth noting especially if fancied in the betting although this daughter of Pivotal, a 30,000gns purchase, will need to be fit and ready to hound the principles.

Saeed Bin Suroor is starting to unleash a few better juveniles and Sahafh is a costly purchase at $475,000. This American-bred by the sire Rock Hard Ten is one of the more likelier types. The betting usually indicates the chances of the Godolphin youngsters and there will be no hiding place here.

The betting will be the best guide to the hopes of the others.

Tips:
Bet: 2:30 Brighton - Comrade Bond 1PTW (9/2) 5th
Comment: 'A weak race won in good style by Channon's debutante. Tompkins' two-year-old was well backed but showed only limited ability and a disappointing effort.'

Bet: 7:25 Newbury - Zanazzi 1PTEW (9/2) 2nd
Comment:'A decent effort from Gosden's filly, who is certain to win a race or two. The victor, Cape Dollar, is a high-class two-year-old on today's performance. Zanazzi ran a her race and you can ask no more than that.'
