2:30 Folkestone

A restricted auction race over 7f.

This looks a very weak affair.

Cathcart Castle is one of few to have shown some form when 4th behind Major Dude at Windsor over 6f. This bay colt by Imperial Dancer, owned and bred by Alan Brazil, was always struggling to go the pace and this extra furlong should make life easier today. The form of the Windsor race is average with a few runners not achieving a great deal since. This race will not take much winning, and may even amount to a drop in class. Channon has to be respected at this level and must go close.

John Dunlop has a healthy strike rate at Folkestone and Spanish Pride could well take some beating here. This filly by Night Shift by the mare Spanish Lady, who appreciated a fair trip, ran in a good race at Newmarket. Starting at 50/1 that day, not much was expected but this attractive filly ran on with some purpose after being several lengths last at halfway. The owners, Windflower Overseas Holdings Inc, have an impressive history of talented horses with Dunlop and many improve with racing. This 7f event will see a bold run today and connection must fancy their chances.

Of the rest, Zakon comes from a stable that has been in fine form with its two-year-olds this season. This juvenile went off a relatively short price on debut but never looked competitive after a slow start. An expensive purchase for this race at 39,000gns. This step up in distance will help but much more is needed to figure here.
