A pretty poor day's racing on the two-year-old front.
A selling stakes over 5f.
Fair prize money for a poor race so a good purse for one of these with nearly £5,000 up for grabs.
Belle Royal has been a consistent juvenile for Mark Brisbourne and this is the level where she is most likely to win. She wasn't ideally drawn at Thirsk but that race showed her limitations. One good side is that this two-year-old runs to the line, while many platers struggle to finish their races and very unlikely to win. In many ways Belle Royale is the one to beat.
Dean Ivory is a decent trainer and Russian Ice has shown plenty enough ability to win a selling race. This daughter of Iceman looked to have an outstanding chance when dropped in a claiming race at Wolverhampton but was run off her feet early on. This was unusual as before she had not struggled to go the pace, although this latter heat must have been run at a good clip. The apprentice didn't help in certain respects and a more vigorous ride would have helped to keep in contention. Russian Ice flew at the finish but all too late. In many ways her strength may be her weakness in this race as it will be in her favour to finish this seller with some purpose but it would be a concern if completely outpaced. Perhaps a bet in-running would be the answer as I can see her struggling for pace but flying at the line. I would be surprised if she doesn't win at this grade although may be slightly better suited by a stiff 5f or 6f.
The rest have something to prove, however, it wouldn't take a good horse to win this race.

A maiden over 5f.
This looks a three-horse race.
Bunce has run well on both starts and clearly has enough ability to win a race. This son of Good Reward travels well but slightly struggles to finish his races. Hannon is having a superb season and this two-year-old will run another strong race although could be prone to finding one too good.
Michael Jarvis always has a number of classy two-year-olds in his care and Mujrayaat went off an odds-on shot to win a Leicester maiden. Costing 280,000gns, this youngster was probably expected to win on debut but out battled by another talent in Karl Ryan's Nashara. That juvenile has since disappointed at Listed grade, however, this race will not be anywhere near as testing as that. With the Leicester race consisting of such a small field, it is wise to be a shade cautious because on a literal form line through Foghorn Leghorn, Bunce has the edge over this youngster. Jarvis' son of Invincible Spirit could well improve for that initial race.
The last of the trio, Swiss Dream, comes from a very good breeding line that Elsworth knows well. This filly went off favourite on debut and clearly this youngster is held in high regard by her trainer. She was entered to run in the Hilary Needler Listed race and the National stakes (Listed) at Sandown. Being drawn in stall 1 at Windsor, and crossing over to the rail in the first two furlongs is no easy task and little wonder she foundered in the last furlong, but still attained a satisfactory performance. Elsworth's two-year-olds can often improve a good deal for their debut and I would expect a more professional run today. Clearly racing against two able colts makes the challenge a little more difficult, however, she has the potential to run a big race.
All of the above would make strong each way bets if the price becomes attainable - although that looks unlikely.

2:10 Beverley
A median auction for colts and fillies over 5f.
Nigel Tinkler has done well with his juveniles this season and a number have gone close to winning on debut. Last Destination, a gelding by Dubai Destination, ran a sterling race at Beverley, a heat that is working out quite well with the third and fourth going on to win next time out. Tinkler's youngster has the beating of Blind Stag on that form, however, Midgley's runner went off at a tremendous speed on that occasion and some pundits felt they may have gone too fast. Although Tinkler doesn't seem to have much luck as a trainer at times, Last Destination is a leading candidate for this.
Through a form line with Galtymore Lad, Ice Trooper looks to have little chance with Last Destination. Stubbs is a canny trainer and her juveniles can often improve for the run and she features healthy place statistics on second start with all her juveniles. If backed, this gelding by Ice Man may progress from that initial start.
Philharmonic Hall is a relatively cheap purchase but Fahey is such a capable trainer with a plethora of talented juveniles that he must be respected, especially if well backed.
Mark Johnston does well at Beverley but his two-year-olds have shown little this season and certainly a trainer I would rather watch than bet at present.
Stevie Bee Party has been entered for a selling race, which doesn't inspire much confidence.
Ladies Are Forever is worth noting as Oldroyd does well with his allegiance with Reg Bond and it is a positive that this filly by Monsieur Bond was entered to run in the Hilary Needler Listed race at Beverley. It is difficult to assess the likely fitness of this runner as Oldroyd has poor statistics on debut and generally a trainer that does much better with his youngsters on their second start. Probably one to watch for today unless backed.

Bless her heart, Me Old Gran. She had nothing much to do other than peep out of the window all day and watch Jeremy Kyle. So I said to her. ''Why not search the net and find boy's toys, gadgets and and all the kind of things naughty blokes hide under their beds.'' Well, she jumped at the chance to join HCE. She loves a bit of a flutter on the dogs and if Me Old Gran gives these websites the thumbs up you can guarantee they have been APPROVED.
Thanks gran.

Coco Lush was created with the intention to fill a gap in the market for quality, fashionable swimwear and jewellery. Because South America is an emerging market and the largest producer and consumer of swimwear in the worlds it made sense to only work with local designers and established brands.
Alongside swimwear comes a growing market, in Brazil, for accessories and jewellery and an established market for leather goods and footwear productions, which is a category Coco Lush will soon add to the store.
Designed with the consumer in mind the shop is easily navigable and has a contemporary feel reflecting the range of product available for sale. A good number of products are exclusive to Coco Lush making a buyer experience exciting and exclusive. When it comes to swimwear there are new products added throughout the year unlike department stores and boutiques where new products are only available during the summer seasons.
The store offers a wide selection of swimwear and beach accessories and a comprehensive line of jewellery including, non precious, silver, semi precious, resin as well as wooden pieces to suit all tastes and budgets. A fillies' maiden over 6f.
Three juveniles with form, the rest making their debut.
Silca Conegliano has been relatively fancied on all three starts and went close at Bath last time when pipped at the post by Jollywood. Channon's two-year-old showed good speed that day and was probably suited by the 6f. It is debatable what level that sets as it didn't look the strongest of races. The type to run a fair race but may find one too good.
One of the better lookers in this field will be Idiom. She is quite impressive for a filly and will dwarf many of these. After travelling well at Newmarket, she tired in the final furlong to finish 4th. There is little doubt improvement is needed to take this race and if needing the run that day a much better performance could be seen. Not the easiest of juveniles to asses - but clearly a nice physical specimen.
Lady platinum Club is an interesting filly for this. Oldroyd's youngster needed the experience on debut, running on well, and then didn't have much go right of her second start. They must think a bit of this daughter of Monsieur Bond to go for a Listed event at York. That day proved she is getting her act together and although a little slow away it was a much better run. Care is needed that she wasn't flattered to some extent. This 6f should suit and this is most likely to be the day when connections will be expecting a big run.
Many of those making their debuts do not seem overly fancied in the betting. Richard Fahey has been in fine form and Louis Girl could have place claims.

2:30 Ffos Las
A small field for this 5f maiden.
Roger Charlton's first juvenile runner of the season showed promise when a fair second at Warwick on debut. Marlinka travelled well and held every chance only to be out battled in the final strides. The form of that race is a little hard to assess with the winner subsequently disappointing in a stakes race. However, Charlton's juveniles are likely to improve a good deal and this bay filly is the type to progress.
Just For Leo has been busy trying to gain his first win and showing ability. Evans' two-year-old has good speed but has been struggling to last the distance and seems prone to finding one or two too good.
Beckett trained his first two-year-old winner of the season yesterday and there will be plenty more to follow. Pabusar, a colt by Oasis Dream, went through the sales ring but wasn't sold for 62,000gns. A trainer who can ready a youngster for debut, he holds a fair place rate and certainly one to consider here.
Marlinka is open to improvement but the form is difficult to assess and this is very much a watching brief today.

A very restricted auction maiden over 5f for juveniles with a median sales price of £12,000 or less.
Unless there is a surprise, a number of these two-year-olds are unlikely to feature here and it looks a four-horse race.
Reckless Reward was a fancied runner for a Salisbury maiden but nothing went right for this son of Choisir. After dwelling at the start, this athletic colt lost its action (seemingly jumping on the bend) and losing any chance of being competitive thereafter. This race will not take much winning and Hannon does well when juveniles drop in these lowly all-weather affairs. Money talks with this yard, and if fancied to run a stormer, could be very well backed.
Its You Again probably sets the greatest level of form after a fair debut at Newcastle. A bay colt by Avonbridge, he is on the small side but showed good speed before tiring in the final furlong. The second has since won, which gives the form a boost. Quinlan's youngster was ridden as though pretty fit on debut and it is a slight worry the way his run petered out, which may make this juvenile prone to a fast finisher. In addition, Quinlan features only fair win and place statistics when juveniles are relatively fancied on their second start.
Sir Mark prescott's second juvenile runner of the season. Coeus, a grey colt by Ishiguru, costing £40,000. A trainer always to be respected, however, his first time out statistics are poor and often juveniles are very inexperienced and prone to be slow from the stalls. His win and place statistics, even with fancied runners, are generally disappointing. A juvenile that is most likely to progress with racing and very much a watching brief today.
Andrew Haynes has done well with Stunning In Purple. She is a limited but willing filly and that quality will probably see her gain a place today. It may play in her hands if held up off the pace because many of these will struggle to finish and a late charge could be the key to this race. In truth, it would be disappointing if one of the more unexposed juveniles couldn't take this.

2:15 Carlisle
An auction race for colts and fillies over this 5f with a median sales price of no more than £28,000.
Button Moon made an encouraging debut at Salisbury. Being less than a couple lengths behind Foghorn Leghorn sets a decent standard for this grade and this filly by Compton Place is likely to improve as Woods rarely has his juveniles flying first time out.
Tom Dascombe's two-year-olds have been in better form of late but Mirror Lad seems something of an enigma. Clearly held in some regard to run in the Brocklesby, this little grey colt hasn't managed to last home in both his starts. Dascombe suggested that a greater distance would be needed but for now they are sticking with 5f. He has achieved a basic level of form. After a short break he may be better spirits.
The once raced Reachtothestars is an interesting runner here. A lovely looking colt by Silver Train, he started his career in a competitive stakes race at Thirsk and had a desperately slow start before being positioned near the rail, given a considerate ride, then ran on with some purpose in the final furlong. Dods has since entered this juvenile for another stakes race and this colt is capable of better.
Bigalo's Vera B is worth a mention as this filly by Ishiguru has been entered to run in a number of stakes races, which is always a sign of encouragement. The dam was a two-year-old winner so perhaps Mullaney has a nice youngster. This trainer from Malton, has four two-year-olds in training. One to give a chance at a speculative price.
Of the debutantes, Marine Commando is a recent breeze-up purchase at £34,000 and likely to be fit and ready. Fahey has a wealth of talented two-year-olds and his youngsters feature fair place rates on debut. In addition, Karl Ryan has Shoshoni Wind although the booking of Royston Ffrench could well be a negative.

Comment: 'Exceptionally well backed but a poor performance. A lovely looking colt, showed good speed but floundered in the final furlong and far from what was expected.'
General thoughts: "Just a quick note about recent tips. Disappointing efforts from the last few selections but happy with overall posts and thoughts. With our selective approach it can often make a loser or two seem all the more disappointing but feel I confident there will be plenty of winners to come."

2:05 Bath
A very restricted auction fillies' race over the extended 5f for juveniles with a median price of no more than £16,000.
A large field but probably not too much strength and the majority of the debutantes will struggle against the more proven two-year-olds.
Never Can Stop was well backed for her debut and although showing inexperience was pretty fit for the day. A small, attractive filly, she ran out an easy second place at Nottingham. The winner, Inagh River, had far too much speed for the opposition that day and had the race won by halfway. The only measure of the form is the proximity of the second to the winner, which isn't the easiest marker as the victor may have won by further if pressed. On balance, this daughter of Noverre should improve for the experience and may well appreciate this extra distance. Portman is a capable trainer and this filly should be progressing.
The most experience juvenile in the race, Bajan Bullet, has been quite busy and to her credit has shown enough ability to go close in a race like this. Evans' youngster has been consistent in each race and has a battling attitude, which sees this grey well. It is always a concern that a juvenile with a few races under its belt may be prone to regressing and there certainly isn't much of this filly - a wiry-looker and on the weak side to be fair. This firm ground may not be to her advantage as at Yarmouth she was rather unbalanced at times. As with all horses, you have to weigh up the pros and cons. In truth, if she cannot go close in this race her chance may have passed.
Of the rest, Blaze On By wouldn't have to be one of Hannon's better two-year-olds to feature here. Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds have owned some very good horses (they already have one potential star with Cape To Rio with this yard). Certainly one to be respected.
It is interesting that Allegrissimo was a short price on debut behind Never Can Stop. Cox is a decent trainer with his two-year-olds and does well at Bath. It could well be the case she disappointed on her racecourse bow and more may be expected. One to keep an eye on in the betting.
Of the debutantes, Tipsy Girl may go well at a price. Coakley is a wise trainer and his two-year-olds can often go well on debut.

4:00 Chester
A maiden over this extended 6f.
Not too many look fancied for this - with a selection of form horses and two juveniles making their debuts.
Tamareen showed good speed at Yarmouth before tiring in the final furlong. Ed Dunlop is a capable trainer although often trains the lesser of Hamdan Al Maktoum's youngsters. This bay colt went off relatively fancied on debut and clearly comes here with a chance. However, the race at Yarmouth was a rather strange affair and the field were strung out at the line. The winner and second are capable sorts although nothing out of the ordinary and Tamareen may have to improve. His initial early speed will keep him handy which is no bad thing around Chester.
Alfraamsey must come here with a decent chance after a fair run behind two talented juveniles at Newmarket. Channon's two-year-old ran on well after being outpaced at Lingfield over 5f. The step up to 6f made a big difference and improvement followed. Chester is never the easiest of tracks to race and some horses love it while others struggle with the turning nature of this course. It is debatable whether this bay colt will be outpaced in the first furlong or not. Clearly the 6f is run with less vigor but it is still a slight concern. Alfraamsey should give a good account of himself and in many ways is the most proven of these.
Of the rest, the betting and form suggests not too much is expected today. The one exception to that is Amwell Pinot. Alan Bailey is a talented trainer and if this juvenile is relatively fancied on debut it is worth noting. This chestnut colt by Dubawi is a recent breeze-up sale for 80,000gns and probably comes here fit and ready to run a big race. Chester isn't an ideal track to make your racecourse appearance and a slow start could make this a still task. However, this doesn't look the most competitive of events and Bailey does well round here. One to note in the betting, especially if substantially backed.

2:20 Catterick
A maiden over 5f on good to firm ground.
This doesn't look the strongest of races.
It is difficult to assess the form of Trading as the winner of the Musselburgh race was in a different league to the rest of field, although it is encouraging that Dolly Parton has won since. The third that day, Kassaab, disappointed at Hamilton. However, that running did appear to be too bad to be true. It isn't encouraging to note that Trading has been entered to run in plating class.
Another juvenile that has seemingly not lived up to reputation is Mandy's Princess. A favourite on debut, she found little under pressure and recently at Chester she showed good speed but struggled to finish the race. She is entered to run in a selling race at Thirsk this week.
One of the more interesting horses with form is Miserere. This bay filly has a bit of size and scope about her and seemed to be fancied on debut. Showing good speed for most, this daughter of Fasliyev tired in the last furlong to finish fourth. The form of that race is only moderate but if needing the run that day more can be expected. It is encouraging to see Wainwright has entered her to run in the Hilary Needler Listed race.
Sir Mark Prescott's first two-year-old runner of the season. A filly by Marju and sister to Prince Aaron, she was re-sold for 26,000 gns. The betting will be as good an indicator as anything for this juvenile. Prescott is a very capable trainer although his juveniles often struggle to win on debut and even fancied runners do not attain the greatest win rate. Probably best to watch this one today.
Snow Bear is comes from a stable that has a poor win rate with debutantes. This two-year-old is relatively fancied in the betting so that is a plus.
A tricky race with form horses having something to prove and those making their debuts from stables whose juveniles often improve for the run.

A restricted auction race over 6f.
A mixed bag with a number of juveniles with form and others making their debut. Of those with experience Colorado Gold and West Leak Bridge set the standard.
Colorado Gold was quite fancied on debut but ran no race that day. He made amends next time at Bath when beaten by a talented two-year-old Fifth Ave, trained by Jamie Osbourne. Cole's youngster is a lovely looking colt, big and strong, and will overshadow many of these in the paddock. The stable has been in good form and it would be a disappointment if this chest colt by Dubawi couldn't go close today.
This is potentially a drop in class for West Leak Bridge, who ran with encouragement in a decent maiden at Ascot. This colt by Avonbridge was given a nice introduction to racing and should appreciate this extra furlong. Barry Hills has an impressive strike rate here with his juveniles over the last five years (29%) and a big run can be expected.
Of the others, Roman Dancer may show improvement. Gallagher's charge showed good speed at Doncaster over 5f before fading out of contention in the last furlong. A good-looking son of Antonius Pius, and brother to Ailsa Carmel, there could be more to come as this trainer's two-year-olds often progress with racing.
It is never a good idea to discount any of Hannon's two-year-olds and Speed Gene may be blessed with ability. A cheap purchase at 3,000 euros she has it to prove against a few fair form horses.

Comment: 'A very disappointing effort from Cole's juvenile and will have to review the race in more detail to come to any conclusions. Not sure if there was a slight track bias as stated by the press. However, Cole's would have still been beaten.'
14:20 Haydock - Master Macho 0.5PTEW (12/1) 2nd
Comment: 'Ran a great race and looked to have the edge but couldn't hold the late charge of Fahey's winner.'
5:50 Sandown - Good Morning Dubai 1PTEW (5/1) 5th
Comment: 'A strange race in many ways but a very strong heat. Meehan's filly looked to be going very well but tired rapidly in the last 100m to finish fifth. There is little doubt Good Morning Dubai has plenty enough ability to win a race and going a stride too fast with Hannon's juvenile didn't help her cause with a fast finishing, and talented field chasing. A very good race.'

A fillies' maiden over 6f
Richard Hannon is having an enviable season with his youngsters and many winning on debut. Memory, a daughter of Danehill Dancer and purchased for 72,000gns is certainly one to note. Her trainer has a fair win rate at the course and fancied in the betting. In recent years, Hannon has trained a number of two-year-olds for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and many have improved for the experience. Clearly the shorter the the price the more likely this one will be fit and ready. However, it is worth noting this trend.
Elkmait comes from a stable that is in good form with its two-year-olds. Brittain had a debutant win the other evening at Windsor and should have a fair line to this filly. His general win rate on debut isn't that impressive although juveniles which are fancied in the betting on debut often have ability.
Another debutant worth noting is Apazine, trained by John Gosden. This daughter of Storm Cat cost $190,000 and must be respected. Gosden has a fair win and place statistics with his fancied juveniles but he can often be rather hit and miss early season with juveniles owned by H R H Princess Haya of Jordan. It is probably a good sign running at this course and there is no doubting the ability of this trainer to unearth very talented two-year-olds.
Vow Of Silence was one of three juveniles entered to run in this race by Mahmood Al Zarooni (all had Ajtebi booked to ride). As a first-season trainer, it is still early days to understand the workings of Zarooni. However, he will have his share of winners and already looks to have a nice prospect in Ahtoug. The betting is a good indicator of this ones chances.
Of those with experience it is worth keeping an eye on Sheila's Star. This filly missed the break terribly at Lingfield on debut when well backed and made up an impressive amount of ground in the final two furlongs. Moore's two-year-olds can improve a good deal for the experience and this step up to 6f will be to her advantage. This daughter of Hurricane Run has a fluent running style and she could make that initial experience count against those making their racecourse bow.

A restricted auction race over 5f.
This looks a prime opportunity for Electric Waves, after a promising debut at Windsor. A number of winners have come from that race and McMahon's two-year-old will come on a lot for that debut. After taking time to get into her stride, this daughter of Exceed And Excel steadily narrowed that deficit without being pressed. That experience could make all the difference today.
Howard Johnson has maintained a cracking strike rate here in the last five years for his youngsters (44% win rate) and for that reason alone Solo Whisper should be respected. The most expensive in the field, the betting should be a fair indicator of his chances. In general, this trainer doesn't have a very good win rate with his debutantes.
Choose Wisely, trained by Karl Ryan, was thrown in the deep end when showing limited ability in a Stakes race on debut. A good, strong bodied colt he ran much better at Catterick when suffering interference in the closing stages. The third that day, Melodize, has since disappointed and it is questionable what level of ability this juvenile has. On looks you would have to be encouraged but not the easiest to assess at present although this race is hardly the strongest on paper.
The interestingly named Hayley Cropper is worth noting for any moves in the betting. Nicholls has a fair place rate on debut and juveniles are often ready to run a big race on debut.

An EBF maiden fillies' race over an extended 5f. (17th May)
Indian Narjes, trained by Mick Channon, ran in a five-horse race at Ffos Las on debut, when backed from 7/1 to 9/2. This daughter of Sleeping Indian was intially run off her feet due to inexperience but ran on with encouragement - not knocked about - suggesting she is capable of better. Jaber Abdullah's juveniles can often show significant improvement on their second start and this two-year-old comes here with a big chance.
Melodize ran here on debut, in a race that is working out well. She once again showed ability when second at Catterick, although hung under pressure in the final furlong. This compact filly is the type to get on with the race and her experience should allow her to sit handy for much of this contest. It is difficult to assess the level of form as the third had shown little when contending a stakes race on debut. Having run in two auction races, in theory this is a step up in class. And through a form line with Style And Panache, Indian Narjes has the betting of Muir's juvenile. On paper a second to First Class Favour looks a fair effort, and it may well be, although I still have slight concerns that the form is unproven.
Of the unraced, the majority come from trainers which are not renowned for two-year-old winners or they generally need the run.
Clive Brittain has hit form of late and Masaya is one to note on breeding costing 140,000 gns. With declarations for Goodwood and Sandown, it is interesting that she has taken this race. The betting will be a fair indicator of her chances. However, it will be a good performance to win this on debut.
Millyluvstobouggie was a cheap buy as a £1,000 yearling and may be something of a bargain buy considering she is a half-sister to Wellington Fair who is owned by Ken Lock Racing and trained by Cox. That gelding ran at Windsor on debut and although a little bit quirky, he managed to win at two. This daughter of Tobougg has been entered to run at Sandown which is a sign of encouragement and Cox is capable of winning on debut, featuring a fair place rate, too. The most interesting point is the booking of Richard Hughes who rarely rides for the stable but features a good win rate.
Koha is worth noting for the future. This two-year-old cost 85,000 gns and must be the most expensive juvenile Dean Ivory has trained.

A maiden over 6f.
Breathless Storm went off a well-backed second favourite at Doncaster on debut. This son of Storm Cat, with a $300,000 price tag, is clearly well regarded within the Tate stable and has already been entered for two stakes races. On the face of it, this good-looking chestnut ran a fair race, as the form is respectable. However, his temperament on debut did look something of a concern. When Spencer asked for an effort this youngster put his head in the air and was even worse when shying away from the whip, becoming difficult to ride. It has to be remembered this was his first race and perhaps he is a big baby. No doubt Tate would have been trying to correct this problem although it would certainly put me off betting as a repeat of those antics would make a winning performance very unlikely. This 6f may give Breathless Storm more time to settle and enjoy the race. There is little doubt that Micky Fenton will be riding this juvenile with the future in mind.
Mahmood Al Zarooni - the new trainer of Godolphin's juveniles with Saeed Bin Suroor - will have plenty of two-year-old winners this season. Greek Islands cost 200,000 euros and a bay colt by Oasis Dream. As with all Godolphin juveniles it is never easy to know what they may achieve on debut - the classic good, bad and ugly performances - seem to have little reasoning behind them at times. I certainly wouldn't be interested in backing one of their two-year-olds on debut because of their indifferent performances.
Mick Channon has been in better form of late and his youngsters should always be respected on their second start as improvement can often be found. Saranjam was originally withdrawn from the Brocklesby Stakes after becoming unruly at the start. He went off unfancied at Goodwood and wasn't disgraced in 5th although perhaps a little more would have been expected as he must have been on the go at home unless he had a set back. The hopes of Channon's juveniles seem very price orientated with few winning at big odds on first or second start. The betting will be the best guide to this ones chances today and if relatively fancied, an improved performance should be expected.
Howard Johnson is represented by Defence Council, costing 55,000gns. This trainer knows a decent juvenile and the betting is always worth noting. However, in general, he features a poor win rate on debut which suggests his two-year-olds often improve with racing.
Captain Loui comes from a significant owner/trainer partnership although the booking of Eaves may be a negative.
Of the outsiders, Rainbows Son showed little in a stakes race at Thirsk on debut but may be capable of better.

A fillies' maiden over this quick 5f where a high draw can often be significant. (15th May)
This looks an ideal opportunity for Yarooh to gain her first win. Clive Brittain's representative has run two fair races, showing speed on both starts. The form of the Newmarket debut has held up quite well. This daughter of Medaglia D'Oro paid the price for a bold front running display at Newmarket on her second start and tired in the final furlong to the impressive winner Temple Meads. That was a strangely run race, which made Yarooh look much poorer than her level of ability. A high draw and experience should give her all the advantages this capable filly deserves to show her worth. At a restricted price I would much rather watch than bet as with a decent purse for this race a talented juvenile may be ready to fly. A consistent juvenile that deserve her day.
Belle Royal is a lovely filly and a credit to Mark Brisbourne, a bargain buy at just £800, she has already paid for herself. An honest horse, she has shown ability on all starts and will win at plating level if not higher. The draw does this bay filly no favours and she can only hope experience and natural speed give an opportunity to eradicate this bias. Running in a maiden at level weight doesn't help her cause as in an auction event she would be much better off at the weights.
Dolly Parton is relatively short price in the tissue betting but this juvenile trained by Dandy Nicholls doesn't look the most fluent of runner and on the small side. She is blessed with speed but struggles to finish races. The Musselburgh contest was weak and to be fair that was a poor second. Experience and draw will help but this youngster will need to improve to win this classier race.
West Stand ran an encouraging race at Beverley, which has already given a couple of winners. The draw is an obstacle but this is one of the more fancied runners here.
Of the unraced Orchid Street and Royal Hush are worth noting. It is never easy to win on debut and certainly a speed track like Thirsk takes few prisoners if individuals are slow from the stalls. Karl Ryan is a talented trainer of two-year-olds and it is encouraging that this fillies price tag went up to £78,000 at two, presumably at the breeze-up sales. This could well suggest this juvenile is fit and ready to run which may negate the seeming inexperience. It will take a talented inidividual to take this on debut. The former, a daughter of Street Cry is another breeze-up and worth noting in the betting. Mrs Duffield knows a decent two-year-old when she shes one. However, their youngsters seem to struggle to win on debut especially from this poor draw.

A stakes race over 6f on good to firm ground.
Drawing Board made a fine start to his career when pegging back the front running Scarlett Rocks on debut at Leicester. This extra furlong should give Ryan's youngster plenty of time to find his stride and opportunity to gain a second win.
Of the others, Mapping Time managed to scrape a win at Beverley last time when narrowly holding Lovat Lane. That individual didn't uphold the form when running at Warwick. In fact, Meandmyshadow have very similar form lines. Brown's two-year-old is likely to appreciate this extra furlong. Both are likely to struggle against a potential talent, which the favourite may be.
Prophet In A Dream is a lovely looking colt. Channon's charge won a poor race a Brighton and this 6f will help but needs to to improve.

A maiden over 5f consisting of colts and two fillies. (13th May)
Foghorn Leghorn has shown the best form when running out a creditable third at Doncaster. This colt by Medicean is quite small and compact. He looked pretty fit for his bow and it wouldn't be wise to consider great improvement from that initial start. The form would suggest Chapple-Hyam's two-year-old can win a race. However, this could turn out to be stiff contest with a number of talented trainers with representatives. In addition, Chapple-Hyam doesn't have the most spectacular statistics with relatively short priced juveniles on their second start. Certainly one of the main contenders but may find one too good. It is worth noting that Alan Munro was originally booked to ride this horse but has chosen to take a single ride at York.
On first thoughts there doesn't seem much to enthuse about the running of Milldown Magic at Goodwood. It is interesting that this chestnut colt was a relatively short price that day (13/2), which may be a sign of encouragement. The most notable factor for this individual is that Millman often does well here when juveniles are making their second start. It wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see a much improved performance although on the face of it the form doesn't inspire.
Of those making their debut, Reckless Reward and Emilio Largo come from stables that often have their juveniles fighting fit. This is a course that Beckett has enjoyed notable success with a number of classy types.
Black moth is a nicely bred colt and cost 55,000gns. This juvenile is one of a handful entered for the Phoenix Group 1 (IRE). Meehan is capable of training a winning debutant although the majority of his two-year-olds improve for the run.
This is a comment which applies to Henry Candy and Dinkum Diamond and Mi Regalo trained by Andrew Balding. The later rarely has juveniles win at double figure prices on debut. Both trainers feature much better statistics on their second starts.

A novice stakes race over 5f with a selection of winning juveniles. (12th May)
Bahceli ran out an easy winner at Pontefract and looks the type to progress with racing. The form of that race has been boosted by the third winning this week (probably improved for the debut) and the second has shown an element of ability at Doncaster. Hannon had this juvenile and My Son Max entered to run here and this son of Mujadil, an attractive grey, must have a fighting chance of gaining another success.
There was much to like about Cocktail Charlie's performance, when making his debut at Ripon in a race Tim Easterby often sends his better juveniles. This colt fairly cruised through the field and won without being troubled. The form of that race is only fair at best but it was more the manner of the success which instilled confidence that there is more to come. This will be a greater test of character.
Majestic Myles travelled extremely well throughout the Musselburgh race he won on debut. He certainly needed to highlight the opposition's weakness considering the poor standard of that contest. The second placed - Dolly Parton - is no more than a plater at best. It is never a good idea to focus on the limitations of an easy winner, however, more will be needed today.
Saucy Buck managed to gain a first success on his fourth start - a very modest contest at Hamilton a few days ago. Channon's colt has struggled to go the pace in some of his earlier races and he is likely to be outpaced once again. Unless the front runners go too fast, he doesn't look the most competitive types at this grade.
A similar comment goes to Misty Morn who is very small and not a very fluent runner.

A restricted auction race over 5f. (10th May)
A few of these have shown an element of ability although the form looks weak or remains unproven.
Belle Royale is a willing sort and Brisbourne a talented trainer. After a fair second in a claiming race, this bay filly looked to be stepping up in class at Yarmouth and consequently went off at big odds. That was a restricted race and the form could be on the weak side with a big priced winner, trained by Paul Cole, and the field strung out. This doesn't look much better and at least this two-year-old runs a consistent race which indicates it should at least reach the frame.
Stunning In Purple is a similar type with a couple of runs under her belt and unlucky not to have won. She is capable of winning at this level but, again, is prone to finding one too good.
The form of the Ripon race in which Vienna Woods finished 4th has taken a few knocks. Haslam's juvenile went off unfancied that day and after being completely outpaced ran on well, looking to have a chance of winning, before tiring in the last furlong. Another juvenile that to all purposes has a similar profile to many of the form horses.
Probably the most interesting horse in the race is Lenjawi Pride. This bay filly has some size and scope about her. After showing good speed at Pontefract, Dascombe's charge struggled to finish the race but managed a place. The stable seems to be turning a corner, and if this filly was in need of the run on debut, a big price that day could have been an indicator, then a strong performance could be on the cards. The wide draw is not ideal, however, in a poor race, and a speedy type, Kingscote is likely to have this juvenile challenging for the lead. At a relatively short price, Dascombe has very good win and place statistics for this type of race.

A large field for this restricting auction race over the extended 5f.
The draw is likely to play a big part here and makes assessment difficult.
Lovat Lane ran well on debut at Beverley after finding trouble in-running and was a shade unlucky not to have won. Eve Johnson Houghton has a bigger string of two-year-olds this season and those to have run showing ability. This filly by Avonbridge should run a big race here and one of the main contenders and may benefit from a better draw than some.
John Best is a trainer that often finds a winner with his juveniles on their second start and Reposer is a big, strong colt who could well improve for that initial run. He showed an element of ability in that stakes race at Ascot and is a very interesting juvenile especially if fancied in the betting. The major concern is the high draw. Whether experience will make this manageable is a matter for debate. However, this turning course is made for speedy types and it may be difficult to catch those with a low draw. Without the potential draw bias, this would be a major hope.
John Fretwell has made a flying start to the season and often has his two-year-olds fighting fit for debut. It is good to see he is using the talents of Brown as he is a capable trainer and had a winner at Beverley in the week. Where's Romeo is quite fancied in the betting and it is wise to respect Fretwell's youngsters.

A restricted maiden for fillies over 5f. (7th May)
It is difficult to know what to expect from Inagh River. Hannon has been firing in the winners but this daughter of Fasliyev didn't show much ability on debut. It may be a case of running to bad to be true and a different horse will turn up today. The betting will be the best guide - if very fancied it would be significant.
Of the unraced, many of the trainers struggle to win at the first time of asking and they would certainly need to buck a trend. Those most likely are Allegrissimo, Liberty Ess and Empress Royal.

Quite a valuable maiden over the extended 5f and a large field making a good draw all the more important. (6th May)
The majority of the field look to have a stiff task, needing to find considerable improvement and this could well go to one of the form horses.
Barry Hills has a superb record at Chester and Diamond Geezah has run creditably on his last two starts. The later at Nottingham was a strong performance and there was much to like about the way he shot clear of the field. The eventual winner, My Son Max, is a lovely looking juvenile and that was an impressive show for a two-year-old who found trouble in running and rallied in the final furlong to peg back Hills' charge. The relatively high draw is not ideal and a slight negative. It will be important for this son of Diamond Green to be well away from the stalls.
Just For Leo is another colt with experience and he certainly has enough speed to sit handy or go from the front. Evans' two-year-old was well beaten at Ripon, and even accounting for the wide draw, it was still only an average performance. At Nottingham, he travelled very well but I would have concerns about the standard of that race as very few horses even got into contention and it may have been a limited heat.
Clive Brittain had a decent winner at Doncaster (Zaidan) and his juveniles may be coming into form. Shafgaan has been fancied on both starts, which indicates he is held in some regard. The heavy ground at Folkestone found him out after showing lots of speed and once again this was on show at Newbury. That race is difficult to assess but it could be a fair. Certainly the first and second looked nice types. Shafgaan has been entered to run in a stakes race, which is another positive. From a low draw, this grey colt looks the type to enjoy Chester. The only concern is whether he will finish his race as at Folkestone and to a lesser extent at Newbury he tired in the last furlong. This may have been due to the class rather than not getting 5f although it pays to be careful as Chester is a tricky course at the best of times.
Dress Up ran much better than her odds (25/1) at Windsor when just beaten by Richard Hannon's The Sydney Arms. This was a very restricted auction race, which often means the form may be on the weak side. As yet, the race is holding up well with 5th and 6th running well since, although they must have improved for that initial performance. Kirk's filly was well in the weights that day and to all purposes this is a step up in class. I would imagine the form is just average at best and this little two-year-old may need to improve a little more.
Tom Dascombe will be boosted by the easy victory of Julius Geezer in the Lily Agnes. He talked at length about his frustration of the two-year-olds being out of form and he will be hoping they have turned the corner. Malpas Missile is a good looking filly and ran a sound race on debut. She was always up with the pace and has a battling attitude, which will see her well. The third has come out and won since and the fourth has shown ability too. The winner of the Doncaster race was in a different league to Dascombe's youngster and the standard of form would seem to be no more than fair. The negative here is the high draw (12) and this detracts from what would initially seem a bright chance.
Of the rest, Mandy's Princess is an interesting runner. She was fancied to run a big race at Lingfield earlier in the season but to all purposes disappointed that day. Hanagan didn't hold back in his efforts on debut and I can imagine connections expected much more. Fahey has a talented string of juveniles and it is intriguing to reason why this daughter of Elnadim was entered to run in the Lily Agnes. It would be no surprise to see this filly backed.
A difficult race in ways with the slight unknowns about the form for a few of the likely favourites and the draw bias could well make this a near impossible task for some. Diamond Geezah will run a big race if not hindered by the draw. Shafgaan has the speed to sit handy but may struggle to finish his race (although he looks the type to be suited by Chester). While Mandy's Princess could be a surprise package and one to consider at a speculative price on the exchanges.

The Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes over 5f. (5th May)
Always a fascinating race with some of the speediest two-year-olds of the season taking their chance for win prize money of over £13,000.
Ability and draw bias are the key factors.
Bathwick Bear is considered by David Evans to be faster than Star Rover who he trained to win this race last year. This tiny colt by Kodiac has plenty of pace and must run a big race. Evans also saddles Dingle View a filly who won with ease at Salisbury at the weekend and a tidy victory at Doncaster. This daughter of Mujadil has a touch of class and finishes her races extremely well. On form she looks to have little chance with Bathwick Bear who beat her a long way on debut but she didn't have anything go right that day and is capable of much better. Whether she will have the natural speed of some of these from the gates in questionable, however, Dingle View has a lively chance against a talented stablemate. (It may be wise to take into account that she had a run only a few days ago as this can sometimes leave horses a little tired.) The third of Evans' runners, Little Libretto, won a poor stakes race and looks out of her depth from an unfavourable draw.
Gay Kelleway must have been pleased with the ease that Primo Lady won on debut. The addition of the visor probably put people off but this is an accessory she uses to enhance her juveniles rather than in response to temperament. From a low draw, this compact filly must be respected and could run a big race and features well in the weights.
Tom Dascombe has not achieved the greatest of starts to his two-year-old campaign and although Coconut Ice has natural speed she has a seemingly impossible task to beat Bathwick Bear and wanders under pressure. Julius Geezer may be suited by this turning 5f but he seems to struggle to finish his races.
Alan Bailey knows a classy two-year-old when he sees one, but So Is She will need be very forward and talented to not be left at the start.
This looks out of Bathwick Bear, Dingle View and Primo lady.

An auction race over 5f. (4th May)
The form horses do not set the highest standard and this could well go to one of the debutantes.
From reviewing the declarations, Neill Callan had the choice of rides between the Ryan pair and Waking Warrior is given the nod over Unknown Rebel.
Richard Fahey has a good line with his two-year-olds and Premier Clarets cost £25,000 as a yearling. His juveniles are often priced at relatively short odds, such is his reputation, and feature a fair win and place rate on debut.
On The High Tops hails from a stable that has benefited from the influential owner Mrs Fitri Hay. This bay gelding cost £34,000 as a yearling and owned by The Ivy Syndicate. Tate is a capable trainer and can often have his juveniles ready to run a big race on debut, however, a 5% win rate at Newcastle over the last five years doesn't inspire as much confidence as other courses.
Michael Dods has an increased string of juveniles this season due to the backing of Andrew Tinkler. This colt by Bahamian Bounty is an interesting candidate.
Other races:

6:00 Catterick

A maiden fillies' race over 5f on soft ground. (3rd May)
This looks an easy opportunity for Mick Channon's Golden Shine who went to Newmarket with a lofty reputation but had little luck that day. The form of that race is holding up quite well and connections will be expecting a winning performance.
The opposition look very moderate on their previous performances although Majestic Style was well backed at Pontefract, showing speed, before tiring quickly.

An interesting 5f maiden with a prize just under £10,000 to the winner. (2nd May)
A number of high ranking trainers with representatives in a race that should set a fair level of form.
Three form horses are on show with a field of debutantes.
It is difficult to assess the ability of O'Brien's Oracle, which lost on heavy ground first time out, but has to be respected. This son of Danehill Dancer is likely to be one of the more fancied in the betting.
Yarooh and On Wings Of Love both come from a Newmarket maiden that has held up quite well. The former, trained by Clive Brittain, was given a nice introduction under a hand and heels ride. That was a fair performance and more can be expected today.
On Wings Of Love didn't have much luck in the same race after a slow start, being hampered late on when looking to have a chance, clipping heels and lucky not to come down. It would be wise to respect Bailey's filly. It is debatable whether she would have finished within the frame that day and probably one to watch.
Al Aasifh is the first runner for Saeed Bin Suroor and cost 90,000euros. After many years of indifferent results, Godolphin had a successful 2009 season with their youngsters and it will be interesting to see whether this year will continue in a similar manner. It is almost guaranteed that their juveniles will start at relatively short odd and assessing which will or won't have ability is never an easy call.
Numeral and Sheer Courage represent a stable that goes from strength to strength. Richard Hannon has already revealed a number of talented juveniles and many of his two-year-olds are attractive physical specimens. It is never straightforward trying to assess the significance of jockey bookings with this stable - the betting is generally the best guide to individual chances.
Ed McMahon and Jonh Fretwell combination is worth noting and it is always interesting to see one of their juveniles start at Newmarket. It would be no surprise to see Temple Meads run into a place even at speculative odds.
Pretium Sceleris is worth noting if backed, as Botti's juveniles have fair place rates on debut when relatively fancied in the betting.
Potentially a competitive race and Yarooh sets the standard for all to achieve. With a host of well bred individual juveniles and talented trainers, there may be one or two gifted juveniles in the line-up.
