A pretty poor day's racing on the two-year-old front.
A selling stakes over 5f.
Fair prize money for a poor race so a good purse for one of these with nearly £5,000 up for grabs.
Belle Royal has been a consistent juvenile for Mark Brisbourne and this is the level where she is most likely to win. She wasn't ideally drawn at Thirsk but that race showed her limitations. One good side is that this two-year-old runs to the line, while many platers struggle to finish their races and very unlikely to win. In many ways Belle Royale is the one to beat.
Dean Ivory is a decent trainer and Russian Ice has shown plenty enough ability to win a selling race. This daughter of Iceman looked to have an outstanding chance when dropped in a claiming race at Wolverhampton but was run off her feet early on. This was unusual as before she had not struggled to go the pace, although this latter heat must have been run at a good clip. The apprentice didn't help in certain respects and a more vigorous ride would have helped to keep in contention. Russian Ice flew at the finish but all too late. In many ways her strength may be her weakness in this race as it will be in her favour to finish this seller with some purpose but it would be a concern if completely outpaced. Perhaps a bet in-running would be the answer as I can see her struggling for pace but flying at the line. I would be surprised if she doesn't win at this grade although may be slightly better suited by a stiff 5f or 6f.
The rest have something to prove, however, it wouldn't take a good horse to win this race.
