A fillies' maiden over this quick 5f where a high draw can often be significant. (15th May)
This looks an ideal opportunity for Yarooh to gain her first win. Clive Brittain's representative has run two fair races, showing speed on both starts. The form of the Newmarket debut has held up quite well. This daughter of Medaglia D'Oro paid the price for a bold front running display at Newmarket on her second start and tired in the final furlong to the impressive winner Temple Meads. That was a strangely run race, which made Yarooh look much poorer than her level of ability. A high draw and experience should give her all the advantages this capable filly deserves to show her worth. At a restricted price I would much rather watch than bet as with a decent purse for this race a talented juvenile may be ready to fly. A consistent juvenile that deserve her day.
Belle Royal is a lovely filly and a credit to Mark Brisbourne, a bargain buy at just £800, she has already paid for herself. An honest horse, she has shown ability on all starts and will win at plating level if not higher. The draw does this bay filly no favours and she can only hope experience and natural speed give an opportunity to eradicate this bias. Running in a maiden at level weight doesn't help her cause as in an auction event she would be much better off at the weights.
Dolly Parton is relatively short price in the tissue betting but this juvenile trained by Dandy Nicholls doesn't look the most fluent of runner and on the small side. She is blessed with speed but struggles to finish races. The Musselburgh contest was weak and to be fair that was a poor second. Experience and draw will help but this youngster will need to improve to win this classier race.
West Stand ran an encouraging race at Beverley, which has already given a couple of winners. The draw is an obstacle but this is one of the more fancied runners here.
Of the unraced Orchid Street and Royal Hush are worth noting. It is never easy to win on debut and certainly a speed track like Thirsk takes few prisoners if individuals are slow from the stalls. Karl Ryan is a talented trainer of two-year-olds and it is encouraging that this fillies price tag went up to £78,000 at two, presumably at the breeze-up sales. This could well suggest this juvenile is fit and ready to run which may negate the seeming inexperience. It will take a talented inidividual to take this on debut. The former, a daughter of Street Cry is another breeze-up and worth noting in the betting. Mrs Duffield knows a decent two-year-old when she shes one. However, their youngsters seem to struggle to win on debut especially from this poor draw.
