A Maiden Stakes over 5f 4y on good to soft going. Eight two-year-olds: five colts and a handful of fillies. A quintet of lightly-raced juveniles. Take a look at these guys for great quality horse betting on the internet.
Danzeb showed a glimmer of ability when finishing second at odds of 16/1. Ann Duffield's gelding looked in need of the experience but ran on in pleasing fashion when beaten without fuss by the experienced Hawatif. This bay son of Zebedee took his time to get into that race over 6f so this drop back to the minimum trip may have him on the back foot. However, connections have made an entry at Ripon over 5f, so it gives the impression it will suffice. The sire was a talented sprinter so it best to consider the trainer knows best.
Quiet Reflection was engaged to run yesterday but withdrawn most likely with regard to the going. This daughter of Showcasing runs in the familiar yellow ad white silks of Ontoawinner syndicate who have a fine record with their youngsters. Katie's Diamond was sold to Qatar Racing Ltd & Barbara Keller after an effortless win at Redcar on debut before tasting victory at Listed class in the Empress Stakes at Newmarket. This bay filly has received a Stakes and Lowther Stakes (Group 2) entry, which suggest she has shown ability.
Ticking Away is trained by David Brown who does well with his partnership for owner John Fretwell. This son of Monsieur Bond out of a winning mare wasn't overly fancied when sent of 12/1 at York over 6f. It is worth noting that was a strong race with very good prize money. This grey two-year-old has been off course over sixty days and now a gelding, which is probably the reason for his absence. It could well be the case expectations were higher on that racecourse bow with being a prestigious meeting. The stable have fair win and place claims when priced 13/2 & less second start. In what looks to be an ordinary race that duck egg shouldn't hinder his chances today.
Keith Dalgleish is represented by a couple of debutantes: Farkle Minkus & Forever A Lady.
The former is a home bred son of Kheleyf in the same ownership of Stonefield Flyer for G R Leckie. This January foal is a gelding.
*Forever A Lady races in the familiar silks of Straightline Construction Ltd who done well with Ko Cache among other talents. This bay filly is a daughter of Dark Angel out of a debut-winning mare who raced up to Listed class at two. She cost £27,000 at the yearling sales.
The betting is usually a good guide for their debutantes and those priced 13/2 & less indicate ability. However, this stable doesn't feature the best strike rate. They tend to win or be unplaced. On balance, I would rather take a watching brief.
Arjeed, *Freeze A Crowd & Madame Barker are best watched.
Conclusion: An intriguing race. Danzeb is a decent-looking juvenile who could progress markedly from his debut at Carlisle where he was clearly ring rusty. On breeding this drop in distance shouldn't be a problem although it does bring slight concerns as he wouldn't want to be outpaced. On a stiff track and softer ground it shouldn't be too much of an obstacle and it is often a strength to finish a race. Interesting to see if Quiet Reflection races. If the going was a concern at Catterick, rather than wide draw, there may be a chance she doesn't take this race. Karl Burke and Ontoawinner know a decent juvenile and I'd expect a bold show. From a statistical point of view their two-year-olds can win at 10/1 & less. She will not be that price today. Ticking Away looks a poor relation with his duck egg. However, the form of that race is strong and it could well be the case he disappointed on debut. The stable have respectable win and place claims with juveniles on their second start priced 13/2 & less. With the gelding operation, stepping down a furlong, and feared connections I would expect this horse to hit the frame. Keith Dalgleish's debutantes bring interest but best watched unless exceptionally well backed.
*NR - Freeze A Crown & Forever A Lady
An EBF Maiden Stakes over 5f 4y on good ground. Eight two-year-olds take part: three colts/gelding and handful of fillies. Five horses have race experience. This looks a pretty ordinary race with a few debutantes from less fashionable stables and others who need to be primed against a few with race savvy. Craigemdar is the horse of focus. This daughter of Tagula cost £44,00 from the Doncaster 2yo Breeze Up Sale 2014. This bay filly wasn't overly fancied on debut but ran a great race if not a little too keen in the early stages which told in the final furlong. That pace may be blunted by dropping back to the minimum trip but she will finish with gusto. David Barron is a supreme trainer and this race doesn't have much depth. There will not be too much meat on the bone but I've snapped up about 2/1 on Betfair, which I expect to lay off at shorter odds to a decent no-lose bet. If it happened to drift to bigger odds I'd simply put more money on this horse. Looks to have a touch of class against this field.
2:35 Brighton - Burning The Clocks is on a recovery mission after disappointing at Yarmouth. Connections were disappointed by that effort and expect a big run today. Amber Crystal steps up in distance after running over the minimum trip. On breeding you would think it will be a positive although she is a keen horse and has seemingly struggled to finish her races so far. If settling, John Gallagher's charge could set a stern test for many of these and likely to travel with supreme ease. If available at fair odds I will be tempted to try and lay at shorter odds in-running. Such betting strategies can be a tricky business if connections have a change of tactics but looks a fair bet to hit shorter odds. I would be tempted to lay a few quid at 1.01 to win a few thousand if going clear of the field because she could well hit a brick wall in the final furlong.
7:00 Doncaster - A decent-looking race. From a statistical point of view I'd keep an eye on John Gosden's Lashkaal. This home bred daughter of Teofilo ran with promise on debut and if priced at 13/2 & less must have decent win and place claims.

A 0-75 rated nursery over 6f 5y on good ground. Nine two-year-olds take part with four juveniles tasting victory so far. Supa U caught the eye on debut over 6f at Redcar. This daughter of Authorized found trouble in running and was almost knocked over at one point but rallied to give favourite backers a scare when clear of the third. Tim Easterby's filly looked a winner waiting to happen but nothing has gone right on her next three starts. Fancied to go well on her second start at Pontefract, that race was run at a frantic pace with the winner - a fair sort - running from off the pace. The next two starts saw this bay filly step up in distance and simply pull her chance away. In truth, we haven't seen what she can achieve since that first start which was full of promise. Connections must have been disappointed by a string of poor effort but on the opposite side of the coin they find themselves with a well handicapped horse. This step back to 6f on better ground looks ideal and the application of the hood is clearly an effort to get things right. As with all horses who have disappointed, there are question marks. I would suspect this is last chance saloon for the truth to be told. Will we see a fair juvenile as glimpsed on debut or a poor horse simply disguised by perceived hope? Supa U may be worth a win bet if touching speculative odds.
Great news to see that Racing Twits have a new business partner which has secured their future. Thanks for helping promote HCE.
An EBF Maiden Stakes over 1m 65y on heavy going.
A speculative punt for *Bitusa trained by Alan Swinbank. This American bred gelding was unfancied on debut when racing over the minimum trip but steps up markedly to a mile. On balance this son of Roman Ruler looks to have a mountain to climb but Mrs J Porter is a very lucky owner and this stable can transform juveniles from their first to second start. At a price, he may have each way claims.
