Shumoos Second In Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint

Hot favourite Secret Circle beat the fast-finishing Shumoos to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint at Churchill Downs. Bob Baffert's unbeaten son of Eddington was sent off at odds-on to maintain his perfect record. And his backers never had real cause for concern with Rafael Bejarano having him up at the head of affairs from the early going. And when Bejarano sent him clear entering the stretch it looked like he'd win by a wide margin. But Shumoos, totally outpaced early and way off the pace, produced an astonishing stretch run under Garrett Gomez to cut down the rest of the nine-strong field. But the Brian Meehan-trained filly had just too much to do to catch the impressive winner, who scored cosily in the end.
