2:40 Ayr - Result

A restricted Maiden Auction Stakes over 6f on soft ground. I don't have the strongest opinion on this contest bar one horse from a statistical point and why it may pay to review HCE Stat Bets. Mistress Of Rome sets the standard after three placed efforts. To all purposes this is a drop in class. However, this daughter of Holy Roman Emperor is limited and her chance is very much dependent on whether any of the opposition have a glimmer of ability. At the price, on very testing conditions, I would rather take a watching brief with her.

Of the others, Gibraltar Road was substantially backed on debut at Thirsk (25/1 - 7/1) but showed little. If the money comes for this youngster today it might be a positive but a difficult horse to assess at present. The betting is the best guide to Gone By Sunshine who has not been seen since April. Fahey has fair win and place claims with his fancied juveniles on their second start. However, in such a small field the betting can often be skewed. Bubbly Bounty is an interesting newcomer. Bailey is a canny trainer and one to consider.

Conclusion: A poor race and testing conditions makes this a difficult race to call. Mistress Of Rome may well have enough ability to win but at short odds doesn't appeal. The horse of interest could be Bubbly Bounty.

HCE: ''Mistress Of Rome was outpaced mid race but ran out a comfortable winner at the line. Disappointing that Bubbly Bounty was withdrawn after being enstalled.''
