Tuesday's Thoughts

2:10 Leicester
A difficult race to assess with many of these juveniles making their debuts on heavy ground. Of the form horses Our Gal showed ability on her racecourse bow at Newmarket in July. This Quinlan-trained filly was quite well backed that day and was ridden as if fit and ready to run. She has shown a fair level of form although may be vulnerable to a decent debutante. It is slightly concerning that this daughter of Kyllachy has been off course for a good while and although one of the fancies at relatively short odds is probably priced to chance. Isolate, trained by Hughie Morrison, may have a hope at a big price if this turns out to be a run-of-the-mill maiden. This daughter of Verglas should be suited by these testing conditions on a day where experience could make a difference. The form of her Kempton running behind Zing Wing is difficult to assess in ways as a couple of performers (Cross Examination and Emperor's Princess) have run poorly since. However, that may have been a creditable performance and being one of few with form, it would be no surprise if this juvenile was backed late on, especially if weaknesses appear in the debutantes. Of the unraced, Highest Bid - 170,000gns yearling and owned by B E Nielsen - could be a talent in the making. Michael Jarvis has done exceptionally well with his juveniles on debut this season - in fact they have achieved over a 50% win rate this term with 8 winners from 15 runners - and this daughter of Monsun should be respected. William Jarvis doesn't have the best strike rate with his debutantes, however, it would be significant if Heatherbird was priced 13/2 & less.

A weak maiden where most have moderate ability. Hygrove Gal is the most interesting juvenile in this field, after showing promise at Pontefract. Brian Smart is a superb trainer at placing his horses on their second start and this sister to Fratellino should run a big race. Insolenceofoffice has an element of ability and should get a place but Smart's youngster may take some beating.
