A competitive fillies' maiden over 5f where a low draw can be advantageous.
Aalsmere should win this race. After a fair debut effort this filly ran to a high level in a listed race at York, narrowly losing. A big effort will be seen today.
Velvet Band has shown modest form on both starts and has place claims, but much more is needed to hinder the favourite.
Deal is very small but a battling type and will probably run a fair race and a good a chance as any of the form horses of reaching the frame.
The first runner of the season for Sir Mark Prescott, a trainer always to be respected. This filly by Medicean would be more likely to show some ability if short priced although her handler has a very poor win rate on debut and this doesn't give encouragement.
Of the others, Excellent Thought is of interest. A breeze-up purchase costing 130,000 guineas, this juvenile is worth noting in the betting. Again, at a short price Haggas has a fair place rate on debut but generally he struggles to win on debut.
Aalsmere will prove a disappointment if not winning here.
A watching race.
Race review: 'Probably not the result many imagined with Deal winning her first race at the cost of Aalsmere. This small filly seemed to appreciate dropping back in distance although running along the stands' rail helped, while other floundered running down the middle or against the far side rail. McMahon's juvenile wasn't best away and seemed to always be struggling to find her stride. This was a long way off her performance at York and she may appreciate even softer ground. Val C seemingly ran well but it is slightly difficult to know what they achieved. Velvet Band ran poorly.'
