Glorious Goodwood 2016 - best bets

Glorious Goodwood provides five days of top class flat racing at one of the UK’s most impressive racecourses and the 2016 meeting is no different. With the weather expected to be dry and warm in the lead up to this year’s festival of racing, the ground should be on the fast side which will suit those horses who have been longing for Good ground all season. Here are the best bets for this year’s meeting.
Tuesday – Lennox Stakes (Group 2)
Godolphin won this contest 12 months ago with Toormore and the boys in blue could have further success in the third race on the opening day of the meeting with Home of the Brave who can be backed at 5/1 with Betway. Trained by Hugo Palmer, this four-year old has had the perfect season so far with two wins from his two starts. He started his campaign in a Listed race at Leicester back in April where he scored by just over two lengths, while more recently he was the winner of the Group Three Jury Stakes at Haydock. He remains at his optimum trip of seven furlongs for this race and the better ground at Goodwood will play in the in-form horse’s favour. The danger will obviously be Ribchester but he has yet to score on Good or Firm going.
Bet: Home of the Brave 5/1
Wednesday – Sussex Stakes (Group 1)
Galileo Gold has been the star miler from the three-year old division this season with success coming in the opening Classic of the year, the 2000 Guineas, while he also followed that up with his win in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Hugo Palmer’s runner will once again take on the French Guineas winner The Gurkha at Goodwood but it is hard to make a case for that form being reversed on the downs.  The one blip Galileo Gold has on his form card this season is his second place finish in the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh. The ground on that occasion was yielding and the complete opposite to what suits the horse. There will be no such concerns at Goodwood, therefore he is the one they all have to beat in the three-year old contest.
Bet: Galileo Gold 7/4
Saturday – Nassau Stakes (Group 1)
Aidan O’Brien’s Minding will go off as the hot favourite for the Group One Nassau Stakes, however, it could be worth siding with her stablemate Alice Springs to upset the odds at Goodwood. As we saw recently in the Irish Oaks where Ballydoyle’s Seventh Heaven beat Even Song to claim the Classic at the Curragh, it is not always the O’Brien favourite which claims the spoils.
Alice Springs showed her class when she won the Group One Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket recently in impressive style. She finished that race strongly coming home ahead of Very Special by over two lengths.  Usherette was a long was back in sixth as she proved the big disappointed in the 1m contest for fillies.
Bet: Alice Springs

1:45 Doncaster Racing Tips (1st Aug) UNISON ESSENTIAL COVER WHEREVER YOU WORK MAIDEN AUCTION STAKES (Plus 10 Race) (CLASS 4) (2yo)

Nothing too outstanding to consider but a few pointers for horses that could go well this season. Interested in seeing how Taurean Star goes here. Michael Bell has a pretty poor strike rate on debut which makes me wonder if this American bred son of Elnadin will be better second time out. It's a plus Jamie Spencer is on board and a Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2) entry brings confidence. It wouldn't be a surprise to see this bay colt show up well. On balance, I'd take a watching brief.

3:25 Newmarket - *Nemoralia is held in high regard by connections and done little wrong last start over course and distance. Not the biggest price at 7/4 but must go well.

4:20 Goodwood - A very interesting maiden and a few well touted two-year-olds looking for this big purse of £16,000 to the winner. *Beast Mode could be capable of better. Mediciman has sound each way claims if priced 13/2 & less SP. Tigerwolf is high in the pecking order for Mick Channon although very few debutantes win priced in double figures and he's quoted on tissue prices at 25/1. Could still show promise.

*NR
1:45 Doncaster - Taurean Star (best watched but could be a talent)
3:25 Newmarket - *Nemoralia (takes the beating) NR
4:20 Goodwood - Mediciman (ew claims if 13/2 & less SP)

So irritating watching this race with Mediciman having unending problems in running. I know the pundits on TV only have a fraction of time to give their summary but blimey their comments annoyed me as much as watching the bloody race. It would have gone close with clear run and placed with ease.

2:55 Nottingham Racing Tips (30th July) BREEDERS BACKING RACING EBF MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) (2yo)

Just a quick note on one or two as no time as usual.

2:55 Nottingham - Dream Mover will go well for Marco Botti and connections Team Valor. I feel like cheering just thinking about their name. This son of first-season sire Dream Ahead made a lovely introduction and pretty fancied in the betting when third behind Melabi at Doncaster. He cost 160,000gns at the Breeze-up sales and will improve for that first run. Middleman is making his debut and held in some regard by John Gosden. This home bred should be respected. Both are priced about 5/2 [Wednesday evening] which doesn't look great value. I'd hope Dream Mover drifts a touch in the betting and if available at each way prices would be a decent bet.

4:20 Goodwood - A giant field of eighteen two-year-olds. *Haggle ran well on debut in a class race and must go well for Luca Cumani and Bedford Lodge. I'd be looking for an each way price as there are a few challengers. Notary is a stiff opponent. Of the debutantes Lady Perignon is something of a talking horse for Andrew Balding. She cost 185,000euros at the yearling sales, racing in the silks of Mrs Fitri Hay. I must admit a good few of Balding's two-year-old debutantes have run poorly this season, which tempers enthusiasm. They can hit the mark if priced 10/1 & less so the betting is the best guide. This daughter of Poet's Voice is, perhaps, best watched but worth noting for future.

2:55 Nottingham - Dream Mover (ew) if available 6/4 1st (was bigger early)
4:20 Goodwood  - *Haggle (ew) if available (NR)

4:55 Goodwood Racing Tips (28th July) KISH ARMSTRONG MEMORIAL EBF STALLIONS MAIDEN STAKES

Sir Roger Moore ran well on debut but disappointed when upped in class in the Coventry Stakes (Group 2) at Royal Ascot. This bay colt, a son of Zodiac, is very well regarded at home and after a spell on the sidelines hold good each way claims. Sterling Lines wasn't the most expensive yearling, especially racing in the silks of Mrs Fitri Hay who could add a couple of zeros on to the £22,000 and still go shopping for Gucci shoes. This son of Equiano is one of the better two-year-olds in Chapple-Hyam's stable and worth noting for the future. If backed to 13/2 & less could well make his presence felt. All in all, it's a pretty competitive race which isn't too surprising with almost £13,000 to the winner.

2:10 Goodwood Racing Tips (21st May) BRITISH STALLION STUDS EBF MAIDEN STAKES

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 6f on good going. Eight two-year-olds: two with race experience and mix of well-touted debutantes from leading stables. I will try to keep this brief [famous last words].

In Haste sets a fair standard after a unlucky defeat on debut and not best suited by Chester when competing in the Lily Agnes Conditional Stakes. Eve Johnson Houghton's grey colt ran on well that day and will appreciate this extra furlong. If available at each-way prices must have good claims.

Captainthunderbolt is interesting from a statistical point of view. He was a beaten favourite on debut at Bath in what was a very restricted race type. He wasn't pressed when headed and gave the impression there would be ample improvement. On that basic form he needs to find something. This extra furlong will help. If fancied in the betting, he has a high strike rate. Not sure if this youngster will drift in the betting. On the stats if priced 13/2 & less should be noted.

In many respects In Haste should have most debutantes struggling to compete. He may well do just that but it is worth noting a number of these juveniles have reputations as talented two year olds. War Whisper, Bobby WheelerWelford have been given Stakes entries, which suggests they are winners in waiting. I'd be surprised if this trio didn't win soon.

Noble Peace, George WilliamWillsy are best watched. The latter may have claims if priced 10/1 & less.

Conclusion: In Haste & Captainthunderbolt ave strong claims if priced 13/2 & less. The former will almost certainly be in that betting guide and if available at each way prices is worth a bet. Not quite sure what to think about the betting on the other mentioned trained by Brian Meehan. If fancied has similarly lofty claims. The three major debutantes: War Whisper, Bobby Wheeler & Welford could well prove worth opposition. A fascinating race.

2:30 Goodwood (29th July) BET365 MOLECOMB STAKES (Group 3) (CLASS 1) (2yo)

A Group 3 Class 1 Stakes race over 5f on good going. Eight two-year-olds take part: seven colts and one filly. All juveniles have multiple race experience, winners bar one colt trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam. A fascinating race featuring some of the best juvenile sprinters.

Beacon has shone brightly since losing on debut when strongly fancied. It is interesting to consider that Richard Hughes [jockey] said this son of Paco Boy was better than another of their stars Kool Kompany who has won five of his six races, twice at Group 2. In fairness, Beacon has something to prove to match that talent but this January foal has caught the eye with a progressive profile, seemingly taking a major step forward last start when winning the Dragon Stakes Listed Race at Sandown over the minimum trip. This bay colt was a great yearling buy at £52,000 and a supreme acquisition for the familiar racing silks of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing (Albany). This good-looking juvenile won well last start and was favoured by Hughes' hold-up tactics. In some respects the Sandown race fell a part with Mukhmal & Snap Shot setting the pace. That approach has proven the downfall of the former when giving what could only be described as a ridiculous ride in the Norfolk Stakes Group 2 at Royal Ascot. If this turns into a tactical affair, Mark Johnston's juvenile may prove a tougher nut to crack if ridden with more restraint.

However, you can guarantee Hughes will sit off the pace and play a waiting game with Beacon, to pounce in the final furlong.

Cotai Glory looked a difficult horse horse to control on his first three starts and moody when winning at Bath in the hands of George Baker. I had fears this son of Exceed And Excell would spit the dummy out when racing at Listed class, stepping up to 6f. In truth, he ran well and showed a professional attitude. Although beaten in fair style by Limato, time may tell that unbeaten horse trained by Henry Candy is smart. Dropped back to the minimum trip there will be no fears about him getting the distance but whether these fractions will have this chestnut colt slightly struggling for pace only time will tell.

Dougal hails from the Hannon stable, which always impress at Goodwood. This son of Zebedee was outclassed when a 25/1 shot when well behind the stable's star turn Ivawood. There may be strength in numbers but more is needed today.

Fast Act is a winner trained by Kevin Ryan and ridden by Jamie Spencer. A fair juvenile but may need the favourites to disappoint to prove victorious.

Union Rose seemingly ran a superb race when second in the Windsor Castle Listed Race at Royal Ascot but looking flattered when beaten with ease by Beacon at Sandown. He needs an excuse and a return to those dizzy heights, which doesn't seem likely.

Spirit Of Xian is the only filly in the field, one of three runners for Richard Hannon. The blinkers are applied in hope of finding improvement which is needs against the boys.

Burning The Clocks doesn't look good enough.

Summary: Beacon looks the logical horse after beating Mukhmal last start at Sandown. However, it would be interesting if Hanagan could play a more tactical role and restraint rather than blast off too fast on Mark Johnston's two-year-old. He hasn't had a chance to show his true ability on these last two starts. Beacon will make a late charge and could well be a class act. Hughes rides this horse and track well and the one to beat. Cotai Glory has ability but whether this drop in distance will suit is a matter of opinion. Although well behaved last time out he could boil over if his temperament shows and one to watch until the off for those who fancy a bet. Beacon should take all the beating.

6:35 Goodwood (6th June) ADVANCED RESOURCE MANAGERS EBF STALLIONS MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) (2yo)

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 6f on good ground. Thirteen two-year-olds take part: all colts bar a solitary filly. Four horses have race experience.

Richard Hannon has been in fantastic form this new season and his establishment with a number of significant owners can only add strength to depth. Al Shaqab Racing have proven a potent force with retained jockey Frankie Dettori. Alediad was sent off a hot favourite for his Newbury debut, won in style by leading Coventry Stakes Group 2 hopeful Adaay.

This January foal, a son of Acclamation, was purchased by Pier House Stud for 100,000euros as a foal. A good-looking colt, he is held in high regard by connections given Curragh race entries including: The GAIN Railway Stakes Group 2,  Keeneland Phoenix Stakes Group 1 & National Stakes Group 1. It would be no surprise to hear connections have ambitions to attend Royal Ascot, which this race comes in timely fashion.

There was much to like about this youngster's debut performance. Dettori didn't press too many buttons and gave a considerate introduction. In truth a wide draw didn't help, with the pace of the race coming from those higher drawn. It wouldn't be a surprise to learn Alediad ran down the slower part of the track. Looking inexperienced, picking his ears at the two pole, he threatened to challenge but then eased in the final furlong when the winner had flown.

That initial experience will see a more professional race today, A high draw against the rail should see a bold show and this horse will be primed. I would expect this youngster to travel very well and it will take a fair sort to deny this colt. He could well improve over further as the dam enjoyed a trip.

There will be very little meat left on the bone as far as price is concerned.

A watching brief.

2:20 Goodwood Racing Tip (23rd May) SPITFIRE MAIDEN AUCTION STAKES (CLASS 5) (2yo)

A Maiden Auction Stakes over 5f  on good to soft ground. David Evans has a smart filly on his hands in the shape of Patience Alexander who may well be heading for Royal Ascot's Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2). Come Uppence is son of Captain Gerrard, and while no super star is a capable colt who should be winning before too long. This February foal was a big price on

2:10 Goodwood Racing Tip (22nd May) IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF MAIDEN STAKES (Bobis Race) (CLASS 4) (2yo)

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 6f on good ground. Nine colts and geldings, two raced. Portamento hasn't been seen since mid April, when competing in a hot maiden race won by the talented Mind Of Madness. This American-bred son of Shamardal is out of a Grade 1 winning mare and sure to make into a decent horse in time. Charlie Appleby's grey colt was fancied to go well on debut but inexperience cost him dear and with a couple of fair form horses setting a healthy pace he was left toiling. It is interesting that this juvenile was entered to run at York, which suggests they hold him in some regard. This step up in distance is sure to prove positive and he will be primed for a big run today. If prices allow, looks a fair each way selection.

4:15 Goodwood (31st July) Free Horse Racing Tips

A Maiden Fillies' Stakes over 6f on good to soft ground. A purse of nearly £13,000 for the victor sees a number of talents take their chance in this thirteen-strong field. Henry Candy is a class trainer and he knows how to buy exceptional horses for very little money. Often he has sold them to eager patrons but Valonia didn't slip through his fingers. This chestnut daughter of Three Valleys is a good, strong two-year-old, a real stamp of a horse, especially for the fairer sex. Candy purchased this juvenile at the yearling sales for 5,500gns. He could quite easily sell her before this race for 100,000gns. It speaks well that he sticks rather than twists and confronts the opposition today. She may have been a 33/1 shot when making her debut over 6f at Newmarket but there was little wrong with that display. Always up with the pace, she would have pressed the winner if her jockey had resorted to a battle of the whips. However, this astute trainer puts his horses first and a enjoyable racing experience was the order of the day. To finish half a length behind Qawaasem (who went close at Listed class next start) beating Oriel by more than two lengths was about a good a debut as you get. There should be improvement to come and a high draw gives a prime opportunity to show her worth. Make no mistake, this is a strong race but Valonia is worth an each way bet if prices allow.

2:00 Goodwood (23rd May) Free Horse Racing Tips

An EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes over 6f on good ground. Last year, this race was won by Sky Lantern, trained by Richard Hannon, who went on to victory in the 1,000 Guineas. Nine juveniles contest this race: three with form and a mix of debutantes from leading stables.

Kiyoshi will take a lot of beating.

Charles Hills has had a slow start to the two-year-old season. However, this Irish-bred daughter of Dubawi is out of a Listed-placed mare. Qatar Racing Limited [owners] usually buy winning juveniles but this could well prove a superb yearling buy at 80,000gns. This strapping bay filly started her career at Newmarket, a maiden which has been franked by numerous winners. This youngster is held in high regard and I would be amazed if connections don't have Royal Ascot penciled into their schedule. Kiyoshi showed signs of inexperience on debut but finished the race with real vim. This step up to 6f will be a plus and a high draw looks appealing, especially with one of the major fancies poorly birthed. Kiyoshi is the horse to beat.

As detailed above, Richard Hannon fielded Sky Lantern, a true talent, to make a winning start to her career. The stable have always sent some of their leading lights to this course and it is not beyond the realms one of their two representatives will shine.

I often find Hannon's debutantes difficult to assess and this will be made no easy task with Kiyoshi being favourite, which slightly skews the price of Mildenhall & Royal Connection.

A wide draw for Mildenhall is not favourable and newcomers often run into space. If losing valuable ground it would make life very difficult. This daughter of Compton place needs to be fit and wise.

Royal Connection is slightly better draw and purchased at the yearling sales by Peter & Ross Doyle, who paid £30,000. This early foal is out of a mare who enjoyed a trip and may appreciate a test of stamina in time.

Movie Magic was very slow away from the stalls on debut and needs to find substantial improvement.

Memory Styx has raced five times and a fair juvenile, certainly capable of winning most maidens. She is a determined sort who will make that race experience count against many of the debutantes. However, the likes of Kiyoshi look too strong. One with each ways claims but may need the favourite to disappoint to taste victory.

Of the debutantes, *Kendal Mint hails from Clive Cox's stable, who not only has a fair record at this course, but a talented filly at home in the shape of Beldale Memory. The betting is key to this youngster's chance. If priced 13/2 & less it could be a positive.

Chesturo is another who is best assessed by the market. Very few of Mick Channon's juveniles win when priced over 8/1. However, this is a course he often sends a decent two-year-old.

Ihtimal is trained by Saeed Bin Suroor who never lacks for talented horses. This daughter of Shamardal is bred to enjoy a stiffer trip although well drawn.

Conclusion: Kiyoshi really caught my eye on debut for both performance and physical stature. She is a beautiful filly who will improve for that first start. A prime draw and step up in distance will make this very hard work for the newcomers. It will take something special to beat this juvenile and for a debutante to lower her colours it seems unlikely. The betting is the best guide to those making their racecourse bow. With a mix of leading trainers it may be foolish to view them negatively. Richard Hannon has a superb record at this course and if one of his pair are leading lights they could go well. However, a wide draw for Mildenhall doesn't inspire confidence and she looks the better bred. Of the others, if priced 13/2 & less it would bring hope. Memory Styx could well hit the frame at speculative odds because she has ability and experience to test most. I expect Kiyoshi to win and head for Royal Ascot.

1:30 Goodwood (26th September) Free Horse Racing Tips

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 7f on soft ground.

An eight- strong field of lightly experienced juvenile featuring colts and one filly.

Pythagorean is an imposing bay colt by Oasis Dream and trained by Roger Charlton. This juvenile has been fancied on both starts when racing at Newbury over 7f on decent ground. As seen with many of the trainer's youngsters this March foal ruined his chance with a slow start but gave enough encouragement that a maiden should be an easy task. The form of that first race has been franked on a number of occasions. This son of Hypoteneuse looked set for a win on his second start but once again his behaviour could well have added to his defeat. Held up off the pace, pulling much to hard, it was a a tough task to show the ability he did when a narrow loser. The application of the first-time hood suggests that Charlton has concerns. This horse has ability as indicated by a Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) & Racing Post Stakes (Group 1) entry but temperament is always an issue at short odds.

Emulating has run creditably on both starts and a progress type. This son of Duke Of Marmalade comes from a good family where a number of siblings have attained lofty sales prices. With the Hannon/Hughes bandwagon going strong you have to respect the chances of this chestnut although at restricted odds I would rather take a watching brief.

David Simcock is represented by Marju's Quest who runs in the familiar silks of Favourites Racing. This bay colt wasn't fancied on debut when racing off the pace, suggesting this extra furlong will be to his liking. Spencer has a good strike rate for Simcock and if priced 13/2 & less.

Another horse unfancied on debut was Jeremy Noseda's Zamoyski. Susan Roy's  juvenile cost 55,000gns but showed little on debut at Ascot. The betting is the best guide to this son of Dutch Art. If priced 13/2 & less has strong win and place claims.

Strong Conviction has been kept busy this season, for the most part running over five and six furlongs. This chestnut gelding has gone close to winning on a couple of occasions but clearly has his limitations. Channon has run this son of Piccolo over seven furlongs once before when finishing down the field in a handicap. On balance other make more appeal.

On form Codebreaker is held by Pythagorean. This chestnut colt is owned by Thurloe Thoroughbreds who always deserve respect. Hughie Morrison's juveniles rarely show a great deal on debut but their two-year-olds often go on to win in their first season. Looks held but could go better on his second start especially if backed.

ProvencalBe Royal need to improve greatly to have any chance. The former trained by Rod Millman is a home bred out of Compton Place. The stable's juvenile often go well on their second start at speculative odds and may have a glimmer of hope.

Conclusion: Pythagorean catches the eye. A big, strong colt who hails from a trainer who knows his horses. The form of those first two starts indicates a winner in waiting. The only negative is that this youngster has a rather cavalier attitude bordering on headstrong tendencies. The application of the hood could resolve those issues and he should be wiser with race experience. At short odds it always pays to be careful but I would give this colt a leading chance. The horse to beat. Emulating is a difficult horse to assess but a progressive type. At relatively short odds I would take a watching brief. The betting will be the best guide to those once raced juveniles from fashionable stables. Marju's Quest, Zamoyski & Codebreaker would all have each way claims if priced 13/2 & less. If weak in the betting it would reinforce the favourite's credentials.  Provencal hails from a stable who often go well on their second start at speculative odds.

                          FANTASTIC FRANKEL

HCE is dedicated to 2yo horse racing. However, I will always remember the day when I first saw Frankel when winning on debut at Newmarket. From that day he has progressed to be the best of the best. The way he won the 2000 Guineas was - in my opinion - the most spectacular performance I have ever seen. Such was his electric pace that I was convinced Queally had gone too fast. How wrong! That was simply a glimpse of a talent the likes we have never seen before. Take a moment to saviour this colt's ability. The best horse in the world. Glorious Goodwood - Fantastic.

3:45 Goodwood Bet 365 Molecombe Stakes (Group 3) Free Horse Racing Tips

A fascinating race over 5f on good ground. Ten contest this Class 1 race worth £22,684 to the winner. Predominantly a field of colts: seven juveniles who have raced at Listed class or higher.

Roger Varian is a credit to his mentor, the late Michael Jarvis, exceptional in his training of juveniles, specific in their targets. Morawij, a chestnut colt by Exceed And Excel, is a superb specimen of a horse: powerful with a fluent, efficient stride. He ran on well to win over 6f on debut at Haydock. However, a drop to the minimum these last two races left no doubt this juvenile is just as strong over 5f. A fourth placed effort when competing in the Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) at Royal Ascot sets the standard for others to achieve. This February foal showed his well being  when triumphant in at Sandown's Dragon Stakes (Listed). Varian is a calculated trainer. I would respect the chances of this juvenile who is progressing with racing. The horse to beat.

Jadanna must be the apple of James Given's eye. Although defeated on her last two starts, she battles hard and certainly gained respect as one of the best fillies seen this season. This daughter of Mujadil won easily on debut and then took the Hilary Needler Stakes. She is versatile on all going, which will probably see her well in the latter stages of the season. Finishing fifth in the Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) losing by three length shows ample ability but also, perhaps, points to her Achilles heel. I wonder if she will struggle running over this minimum trip on faster ground. Givens may have thought as much when attempting the Cherry Hinton Stakes (Group 2). A supreme effort. Her chance depends on sitting handy and keeping tabs on the leaders. This filly may sneak a place. However, I would fear this could happen all too fast.

Hototo is another high flyer from Kevin Ryan's stable. This son of Sleeping Indian is a consistent juvenile who enjoys varied going. He showed a game attitude to win the Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed). That was a tight finish, with a couple of juveniles re-opposing today. Irish raider, Dylanbaru clawed up the Ascot hill and may well have a fighting chance of deposing Hototo. While fourth placed Bungleinthejungle looked to hold every chance until headed in the final strides. The fortunes of each horse depend on how this race is run and tactics will play their part.

Lyric Ace was brushed aside by Hototo et al at Royal Ascot, albeit strongly fancied to go well. However, connections must have felt that running was all wrong because she was fancied to show her worth in the Weatherby's Super Sprint. She ran a stormer, finishing just half a length behind Hototo. Ryan's juvenile is weighted to beat her once more but this may be far from straightforward.

Dominate is another represntative for Richard Hannon - a lightly-raced colt. This son of Assertive ran well on debut behind King Dragon. He then won in ready fashion at Sandown when dropping to the minimum trip. Assessing a winning juvenile is never easy because they have the potential to go onwards and upwards. However, that was a small race and beyond the runner-up the others were limited. At the odds, I would rather take a watching brief.

Of the others, Bridge Night has shown promise but has a tendency to pull, which put pay to the hat trick when racing at Listed class. This looks tougher.

Lady Ibrox has done her connections proud. Alan Brown's two-year-old is a speedy daughter of Ishiguru who could well have many struggling for pace. On balance, she doesn't have the class to disrupt the leading lights.

Sand And Deliver is a good-looking filly who caught my eye on debut. She ran well at Windsor although Liam Keniry clearly went too fast when attempting to beat the sound barrier. The first and second were in a different league. However, Star Up In The Sky went on to finished second at Wolverhampton. Peter Crate's youngster was fancied to go well next time over course and distance but pulled much too hard. This daughter of Royal Applause is much better than that but, in truth, a difficult horse to assess. On balance, it would be a surprise to see her go close. In addition, she could have temperamental issues.

Conclusion: I rarely bet in top-class races, appreciating the performance rather than monetary gain. However, Morawij looks a talented two-year-old. There is something about the physique of this colt which puts these in the shade. He was literally bristling with energy at Sandown. A talented juvenile. I have slight concerns that Jadanna may struggle to keep tabs on a few of these speedy types and could be better over 6f. She will need to sit handy or have the race run at a frantic pace and claw back the ground. The Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed) featured a number of talented juvenile but picking between them could be a test in itself. Hototo has just edge on paper but Dylanbaru may run on with purpose and a danger. A watching race for me.
