I hadn't intended to write a post about today's racing but something caught my eye. Horse trainers may have varying strings, wealth of owners, abilities but what each has in common is the dream that one day they will train a super horse which changes their life, puts them on the map, and fulfils their wildest ambitions. One trainer who exemplifies this story is Pam Sly. Her success with the talented filly Speciosa made the headlines when winning the 1,000 Guineas (2006). Sly has always been a stable of particular interest to me as she trains in the village of Thorney in the Fens. In fact, there is no other stable closer to my home town of March, Cambridgeshire. As the saying goes: ''Like mother - like daughter''. Tomorrow - racing in the 6:40 Ripon - Speciosa's daughter makes her debut over 6f. Specialty is a daughter of Oasis Dream, bought by the vendor for 140,000gns. In the same ownership as her gifted mother, Pam Sly et al will be hoping this is de ja vous. Speciosa made her debut at Ripon over this distance in the early part of June. She may have been 50/1 but it didn't stop her from finishing second. Once again, Mickey Fenton takes the ride. Speciality is 10/1 tissue price on the Sporting Life. As with all racing there is no guarantee of success - but the dreams live long. This bay filly was born on April Fool's Day but time may tell she has the last laugh. Whether super star or not she will be the pride and joy of Pam & the Singlecote Stables.
Best wishes to the team.
