This looks a fine opportunity for Last Bid to gain her first win. Easterby's filly by Vital Equine has form to beat Superplex & Arachis Bow on recent Beverley running. These performances were all the more meritorious because Last Bid has been very slow from the stalls. A wide draw didn't help her cause but this youngster has ability to win a race at this lowly level. The major concern today is whether she will continue this slovenly trend. Even if slow away she could well run a big race but would be a force to be reckoned with if getting away on level terms. I would be tempted to bet in running because much bigger odds may be available if tardy away.
Superplex would seem to have his work cut out beating Last Bid if John Quinn's juvenile ran his race. There is a possibility this son of Multiplex disappointed because his second behind Cravat - beating a number of juveniles who have gone on to win - was respectable form. In addition, losing in a head-bob finish at Catterick may have indicated that point. There could be more to come.
Maltease Ah has shown ability at a limited level. On balance, her form doesn't look as strong as the above mentioned.
Wish Again may have claims for David Nicholls for the simple reason the stable has a fair place rate with their debutantes. If heavily backed it would be a positive. The downside is that in a race of such a restrictive nature proven form most often prevails.
Conclusion: ''Last Bid has strong claims, especially if starting on terms. That is the quandary. It is probably best to consider she will be a few lengths adrift and why much greater odds may be available in running. Even with such a tardy nature, I would give Easterby's bargain buy (800gns) the edge over the opposition. Superplex may have disappointed at Beverley when behind Last Bid but that is a matter for debate. Wish Again would have claims if substantially backed.''
HCE: ''Last Bid is learning with experience and gained her first win with a professional performance. Superplex was outclassed as seen at Beverley. The second and third have claims in a poor race but may be vulnerable.''
