4:25 Royal Ascot (14th June) - Result

The Coventry Stakes (Group 2).

A difficult race to call with a host of talented juveniles keen to win £48,255.

I will highlight my fancy and speculative chance although this may be a race simply to watch and savour.

Richard Hannon has a fine record in this race and there is something about Trumpet Major which caught my attention. A cheap purchase at 20,00euros, this son of Arakan went off favourite in a classy maiden at Newbury over 6f. This youngster took time to find his stride but rallied in the final furlong all but catching Wise Venture, who has since gone on to win at stakes level. He went to Goodwood next time and had little trouble winning at 4/7f. There was something about that win which said this is a very talented juvenile. It was effortless. The way Trumpet Major skipped clear of the second suggests he will run a big race today.

An outisder who may go well at a price is B Fifty Two. The form of his win at Newmarket has been franked with the running of Lilbourne Lad who won a Listed race at Naas, although that was over 6f. John Hills has spoken in praise of this juvenile and may have place claims.
