Thursday's Thoughts

2:10 Newbury
The majority of these trainers struggle to win with debutantes, which pinpoints those with form. Aristeia showed good speed at Newbury but tired in the final furlong and this drop in trip is a positive. It is difficult to assess the form at present but this looks a moderate race and you have to conclude Hughes had the pick of the two Hannon representatives. On the exchanges, Golden Delicious - trained by Hughie Morrison - is relatively short for one of theirs on its racecourse bow, and most likely to drift. However, if this juvenile is 13/2 & less it may be significant.

2:45 Newbury
Fulgar sets a fair standard for these to aim at and should take all the beating. Circus Star* was a number of lengths behind Cumani's colt on debut and even though Meehan's juveniles improve with racing it would be a fair effort to turn the tables today. Novel Dancer and Abbakhan re oppose today after running here over 7f on debut behind the talented Fury. This step up to 1m is likely to suit both and it would be no surprise to see Abbakhan show the greater improvement after an easy introduction. An attractive colt by Dalakhani, Dunlop's two-year-olds often show marked improvement on their second start. With the second placed Yojimbo being beaten since it is difficult to gage the form. However, this grey colt could have ability and one with each-way claims.

A restricted auction race. Mon Visage has a proven level of form and must go close today. Chris Wall has had no luck of late with a number of his two-year-olds finishing second, so will be hoping to go one better today. Jahanara will appreciate this drop in class and running over 6f. In a poor race, she is one to consider and has each-way chances although may struggle to beat the favourite. Blowing Bubbles was unfancied on debut, in what may be a decent race. This daughter of Songandaprayer was up with the pace but tired in the final furlong and may have needed the run. This race will take a lot less winning and 6f is more her trip. This filly has been entered for a number of stakes races which is an encouraging sign and an improved performance should be expected today. Meehan's juveniles should be respected on their second start and another with strong place claims.
