A fillies' maiden over the extended 5f (218y).
This must be a great chance for Bella Swan to gain her first victory. Swinburn's daughter of Leporello travelled very well on debut at Newmarket and for much of the way looked the winner. Whether she fractionally needed the run or stopped in front is a matter of debate - she finished a respectable third. She should take all the beating.
Gallic Star ran in the same race as Bella Swan and was very well backed. A rather small filly from what I could see and running on the outside of the field didn't help her cause. Channon's juveniles can improve a good deal for their debut and more can be expected today although it would have to be a good performance to reverse placings with Swinburn's hope.
Of the rest, Scintillating is worth a mention for Reg Hollinshead. This was quite an expensive breeze-up purchase and this trainer is capable of winning at a big price. Support in the betting would be a good sign.
A watching race.
Race review: 'This turned out to be a two horse race - but not as many would have expected. Bella Swan cruised to an easy lead and looked to have the race won, very much like last time at Newmarket, and once again didn't find much off the bridle when Gallic Star, who seemed to be struggling for a stride or two, ran on well to win quite comfortably. The rest didn't figure.'
