6:25 Bath (5th June)

Quite an intriguing maiden race over the extended 5f on firm ground.

Below Zero shows plenty of pace at Ayr on debut over 6f and ran an encouraging race before tiring in the final furlong. Seemingly second string that day, this is a sizable colt and you would expect a big run.

Spanish Acclaim didn't show any ability on debut but ran very well last time out at Salisbury in a race that is working out quite well. Portman is having a very good season with his two-year-olds and this colt was an expensive buy and the trainer has been noted as saying he does like this individual. Spanish Acclaim started slowly that day and made up a tremendous amount of ground late on and could well have won if circumstances had been different. It should be noted that this juvenile has been rather temperamental.

The Curtis-trained Going French didn't achieve much on his recent run at Southwell and more is needed here.

Of the others, Breeze Of The Air has been given a stakes race entry although the jockey booking doesn't inspire confidence. Huygens is a costly purchase for the Coakley stable. He is a talented trainer and certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Rakhine didn't run very well on debut but was priced at relatively short odds and may be capable of better.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Not much to say about this race apart from noting that Below Zero won very easily. Spanish Acclaim looked moody behind the stalls and unseated his rider jinking after a few strides. He is a horse to keep clear of. The rest didn't attain much and Going French struggled.'
