2:00 Carlisle (24th June)

A maiden race over this extended 5f(193y).

Trailblazing seems very well fancied on the exchanges after showing nothing on debut. If favourite here you would have to expect a big race although I wouldn't be tempted with so much to prove.

Another who falls into that bracket is Reallymissgreeley who didn't show much on debut and certainly needs to improve.

Karl Burke has been in very good form and I was disappointed by the run of Merseyside Star at Ripon. This is a lovely-looking colt, a strong, deep-chested type. Perhaps time will tell that the Ripon race is quite good. At this moment it is difficult to say if that is true or not.

Quite a puzzling race. I am most interested in Merseyside Star but more watching and learning than betting.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Merseyside Star and Trailblazing battled to the line with something in hand of the rest, and Burke's good-looking colt won by a narrow margin. His trainer suggested he hadn't handled the course at Ripon and it was good to see this colt progress. Johnston's Trailblazing is a big, strong juvenile and lost little in defeat. Gypsy Jazz run well o take third. Reallymissgreeley was well backed but ran no race and Ryan's stable is having a poor time of it lately.'
