7:40 Haydock (29th May)

A maiden over 6f for colts and filles.

Admin will be trying hard to get off the mark today. This attractive, deep-chested colt ran well on debut at Goodwood 5f, looking to have a favourites chance at one stage, before tiring in the last half furlong. I would expect much improvement since that run and he will not be so easy to beat this time.

Of the others, Green For Luck is worth noting as Tom Tate has detailed that he has one of the best strings of two-year-olds for many years, and those that have run illustrate this point. In addition, this is the time of year when Mark Johnston brings out a few better juveniles and Shakespearean is worthy of note.

Victoire De Lyphar wasn't originally a booked ride for Jamie Spencer at five-day declaration (he was booked to ride State Fair for Cole), so this may not be as positive as it seems.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Mark Johnston unveiled another prospect in the giant form of Shakespearean, a sizable colt who may have been weak in the market but powered to the line for an easy win. Admin looked to be running a big race, but pulled early and a return to 5f is probably needed to see him in a better light. A lovely-looking type I would be surprised if he hasn't got enough ability to win a race. He could be a decent bet next time out after looking disappointing here. I don't think the place horses are that great, but time will tell.'
