4:20 York (13th May)

An intriguing stakes race for colts and fillies over a quick 5f.

Stakes races are never the easiest of events to assess. King Of Axum ran on well to win at Doncaster in a race that may turn out to be better than first seemed, after the effortless win of Whozthecat who scooted clear at Redcar the other day.

If I had to choose one horse I would go for Ventura Cove who put in a superb performance on debut. This colt has a touch of class and must run a big race here.

All of these juveniles are worthy of respect.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Fratellino put his experience to good use and gained a healthy advantage to which his opposition had no answer. This was a decent win for the McCabe team but I feel it's most likely a reflection of the others failing to attain the highest of standards. The only juvenile to attempt to make a race of it was Ventura Cove and that could hardly be classed as a threat. Perhaps Fratellino ran a blinder today. The others, barring Fahey's two-year-old, showed little.'
