Wednesday's Thoughts

2:00 Salisbury
This could turn out to be a decent race. Chain Lightning sets the standard and will no doubt travel with ease especially stepping up to 1m. It is debatable whether this extra furlong will help or hinder. A talented juvenile who if not inconvenienced by the trip will run a big race. Discoteca hails from the in-form Balding yard. An attractive horse - and not pressed on debut - this youngster is likely to strip fitter today at a course the trainer does well. Argocat is worth noting if backed (13/2 & less) as this colt showed good speed on debut when racing at Sakes level and has been given a number of Group entries this year. With the ground turning on the soft side it will be interesting to see whether low or high draws are favoured. Not the easiest race to consider as it may be more competitive than first thought.

Not the strongest of races and Jinky may be vulnerable as favourite. Channon's youngster seemingly ran well last time although the form of that race may be no more than average as the winner, Enthusing, has a basic level of ability. Earl Of Leitrim went off an unfancied 50/1 shot - and second string - on debut at Ffos Las in July. That was a fair race run at pace and Meehan's two-year-old stuck with the front pack without being whipped. This 46,000gns buy has been given a couple of Group entries and even though that initial performance is no more than average there could be improvement to come. Glanusk drops down a furlong and has each-way claims as the race at Kempton looked a pretty hot contest and that effort was not as disappointing as it may have seemed at the time.

4:00 Nottingham
One of the more interesting races of the day. A couple of unraced juveniles are fancied in the betting with Sinnfonia and Devastation at the head of the betting. Clearly youngsters from Cecil and Gosden's stable are worthy of respect but they still have to prove they have ability and winning on debut is never an easy task. Emporer's Princess is worth a chance and has each-way claims at a price. Hannon's filly may look disappointing being out of the frame on both starts. However, there was much to like about her last performance at Kempton, which may turn out to be a decent race. Very well backed on that occasion, this attractive filly - who cost 125,000euros - didn't go round the final bend very well and took a while to get into her running but fairly flew home at the finish and this extra furlong could be a positive. 6th

4:35 Nottingham
Highest had a big reputation on debut but didn't show anything. Backed once again, the Gosden yard must be expecting better today although at a short price may be one to watch. Tameen may have a fighting chance in this and the extra furlong should help. It is possible that the form of the Salisbury race where finished 6th could be very good. Time will tell on that point but it is worth noting that a few juveniles have run very well from that event. With the favourite having something to prove, the second favourite, Etarre, no world beater, this may be an opportunity for Dunlop's daughter of Shirocco.
