7:05 Newbury

An EBF maiden fillies' stakes over 6f(8y).

A decent race on the cards.

Florestans Match ran well on debut at Salisbury over 6f, when 3rd behind Major Conquest. This chestnut filly by Medicean is a gorgeous looking filly and will definitely win her share of races. A good buy at £28,000, and owned by Mrs R J Jacobs this two-year-old could have a touch of quality. This youngster travelled extremely well on debut before tiring in the final furlong and must run a big race today. A nice prospect for the Beckett stable.

Sir Michael Stoute has just started to run a few two-year-olds and already has one talent in the shape of Cape Dollar, who looks an exciting filly. Apace runs today in the colours of Cheveley Park Stud and is bred in the purple costing 350,000gns as a yearling. With such prestigious horses, the majority of the stable's juveniles are fancied in the betting. The general win rate on debut is respectable but not outstanding as individuals often progress with racing and difficult to assess on their racecourse bow. Certainly his win and place statistics are much better on the second start. Nonetheless, with such credentials this daughter of Oasis Dream must be respected.

Ed Dunlop has had a few two-year-old runners this season but still awaits his first winner. Mabsam was fancied on debut, a 4/1 shot, which is a sign of encouragement for this £50,000 buy, a daughter of Green Desert. She was rather slow away at Doncaster and ran on without being unduly pressed. The form of that race has taken a few knocks and difficult to asses at this time. Dunlop generally trains the lesser of Hamdan Al Maktoum's string and quite often juveniles do not improve significantly for their first start. Interesting that this filly was relatively fancied on debut but more is needed.

Clive Brittain has done well with his increased string of two-year-olds from Saeed Manana and Eshoog was given a stiff task when taking on previous winners in a novice stakes race on debut. This filly had been entered to run in the Hilary Needler Listed race at Beverley so must be held in some regard. On debut, over 5f, it all happened too quickly and Sanders didn't press this two-year-old when she was outpace early in the race. This step up to 6f will help and she could well improve a good deal on that initial performance. A difficult horse to assess but most likely has much more to offer.

Star Today is worth a mention. This filly has been off course a while and could have improved for the debut over 5f at Leicester. Meehan's two-year-olds are in better form and it is worth noting any betting moves for this filly by Invincible Spirit, an £80,000 yearling.

Of the debutantes Admirable Spirit is on of the more likely candidates although Hannon's two-year-olds are difficult to assess at times.
