29th September

A number of nursery races of no particular interest leaving three maidens.

2:40 Warwick
Red Fantasy ran well on debut in a stakes event and is sure to put in a big run. Interesting to see the big price difference between Lady Slippers and Tislimeen. There wasn't a great deal separating them last time and it could be a close call again. Rule Of Nature, for Sir Michael Stoute, has to be respected although his juveniles are difficult to assess on debut. They either win easily or disappoint to some extent. Stoute has a so so win rate on debut and the betting is the best guide to this ones chance. He rarely wins over 8/1 so that would be a negative. This has the look of a very open maiden.

28th September

A fair number of races today but one race which may be of interest. Have to keep an eye on the betting.

2:10 Bath
Can Rakaan finally win a race? He has plenty enough ability but has run into a number of fair juveniles in his time. This drop back in distance will help. He should put in another big run, although at short odds he is more of a target to be shot at than a betting proposition on the basis for liking second place. Roger Charlton's Memorandum has a tough task to win on debut. If relatively fancied this filly has a chance but Carlton's poor strike rate doesn't make good reading and clearly his two-year-olds are likely to improve for the experience. The potential juvenile of interest could be Desert Poppy. She ran with promise on debut and could improve for that experience. The betting will tell the story for her chances today.

26th September

An exciting day's racing with the Royal Lodge and Fillies' Mile at Ascot. Not really betting races for me but certainly high points of the season for these talented two-year-olds.

7:45 Kempton
A restricted maiden auction for colts and fillies. Probably not too many with a chance. I was quite impressed with the improvement shown by Inside Track on his last start. A sturdy-looking colt, he ran a sterling race to finish second, beating the third, which is a capable sort for that grade, quite well. Swift Return and Temple Queen are the main opposition.

25th September

A few more races today and couple of interest. I will have a look at the betting markets before I come to any conclusions and update at 1pm as usual. The blog has been more specific of late rather than simply talking about races when they have no likelihood of tips. If I write in such general terms I feel obliged to give a tentative selection which isn't ideal as it gives a rather distorted view so would rather comment on specific races/selections if they detail or very likely to feature a tip. I will consider how I can best find a working balance between the two. All feedback is gratefully received.

John Best hasn't had the best of seasons with his juveniles but things may be starting to turn after a winner yesterday. Agent Archie ran quite well on debut and this set up in distance should bring about further improvement and that initial experience will be a plus.

20th September

A quiet Sunday. A couple of races at Hamilton but nothing to get too excited about.

3:10 Hamilton
Layla's Boy seems to be making hard work of finding a race and you have to wonder whether today will be another disappointment. Think Its All Over ran well in a stakes race on debut and that was a fair effort. Tate's juvenile should be there abouts today. Sabander Bleue ran a good second at Beverley over a mile and was perhaps a little disappointing last time over further. This trip may be more suitable. A tough two-year-old, I can see Channon's colt running a big race. I would rather bet Think Its All Over & Sabander Bleue as viable each way selections than go with the favourite.

19th September

A quieter day's racing. Lots of nurseries and higher class events which I rarely bet unless I can get a speculative price.

8:50 Wolverhampton
Not a race I have too many thoughts but Krymian is worth noting. This colt didn't show a glimmer at Sandown when relatively unfancied for Sir Michael Stoute and clearly needed the experience. Stoute has impressive statistics for his juveniles when fancied on their second start and if starting at 13/2 & less sp could run a big race. Additionally, this comment is appropriate for Official Style (4:00 Newbury).

15th September

I am going to Great Yarmouth for the three-day meeting this week so will be a little quiet on the blog. My brother will keep you informed of any tips, which will be emailed/texted as normal.

2:10 Yarmouth

Quite interested in Dylanesque here, especially if priced 13/2 & less at sp. Jarvis has very good win and place claims when in the betting guide and could well improve on that first run.

Bet: Dylanesque 1PT EW (available at 9/2) (1st)

2:30 Haydock

Fear Nothing didn't achieve much on debut but is a juvenile to note today. McMahon is a very talented trainer and if this horse is relatively fancied in the betting I would think a big race is on the cards.

Bet: Fear Nothing 1PT EW (available at 6/1) (3rd)

14th September

2:10 Redcar
At her best this would look an easy opportunity for Secret Queen. However, things have not gone Meehan's way with this filly and the 1m last time was too stiff a task. This 6f may be the answer but you have to wonder if she is regressing and this shorter distance is another sign that all is not well. Today will clearly answer many questions and I can imagine either an effortless win or another poor showing. Melundy ran well here on debut, especially as this filly was slow away and made good progress throughout to gain a place. Stubbs is a very good trainer and I can see this two-year-old running well today. Chushka is an interesting runner for Smart. She cost £75,000 and wasn't overly fancied in the betting on debut and could well improve for that run. In fairness, she most certainly needs to find something to trouble these but it wouldn't be a surprise to see a decent run today.

BET: Chushka 1PT EW (available at 9/2) (4th)

3:10 Redcar
It is worth keeping an eye on Architrave as Sir Mark Prescott has a fantastic place rate with his fancied juvenile on their second start. It would need to be 13/2 sp to be considered as a bet.

A quiet Saturday on the two-year-old front and not much of interest. I don't really want to write about races in general unless I can give a few pointers, which the last few day's racing hasn't been the case. I will take a watching brief and hope there are a few tipping opportnities next week.

11th September

Been rather quiet on the tipping front these last few days but nothing catching the eye to warrant a bet. A couple of group races today.

1:35 Doncaster
The Flying Childers Group 2 is always a race to get the blood pumping with some of the fastest two-year-olds represented here today - the classic burn-up. There will be no hiding place for these juveniles and not only do they need plenty of pace but a battling determination to get to the line. Misheer has been such a consistent filly for Brittain who as had a season most trainers could only dream. Not a betting race for me but a race I will be looking forward to watching. I hope Piccadilly Filly runs a fair race as she has got her act together now racing over 5f.

3:15 Doncaster
Seta is hot favourite for the May Hill Group 2 and very much a talking-horse with hopes of Classic race stardom. No doubt a talented filly, Fallon seems to hold her in high regard too.

7:40 Wolverhampton
Venutuis may have been unfortunate to find a couple of surprises in his last race at Chepstow when outpointing the main form contenders to be beaten by one of Beckett's making its debut and an improver from the Meehan yard. In this restricted auction race, he should be thereabouts once again.

10th September

Lots of races featuring many juveniles making their debuts. Couple of races worth noting but not a huge amount of interest.

2:55 Chepstow
Edgewater isn't the greatest of talents but has been running consistently and could well be thereabouts today. Meehan does well at Chepstow and his juveniles are running well at present so this gelding should run a fair race. Higgy's Ragazzo is a lovely strong type and one of the main dangers. Difficult to know what to think about Interakt, who has been a touch disappointing of late.

6:05 Kempton
A few form horses competing here and a host of unraced. Even though it is outsider, I would keep an eye on the betting for Balding's Kingston Acacia who ran a fair race on debut in a stakes event. This filly wasn't given a hard time and showed a lot of promise and will be fitter and wiser today. I see some of the bookmakers have her priced at 50/1 which could well turn out to be huge odds.

A watching day.

Not too much of interest today with lots of nursery races but Lutine Charlie must have a great chance to take this. Having put in a couple of good efforts today could be a welcome win for this two-year-old.

7th September

A few races today but mostly poor races.

2:10 Bath
This doesn't look much of a race - a restricted auction event. Gooseberry Bush is the most likely form horse as she is going the right way and quite an attractive filly. Makin's charge ran well last time at the course when beaten easily by Bush Tucker who is a capable two-year-old. Little Brazillian showed a glimmer of hope last time but her previous efforts were pretty dire. I would rather watch her today. Both Devassa and Pherousa have form lines with Makin's juvenile and Cox's may have improved a fraction for that debut and both are a couple of pounds better off today. I don't think any of these form horses are going to win this with ease but Gooseberry Bush, even with a high draw, looks a consistent juvenile at this level and must go close. An each way bet would be most favourable although this looks a competitive race and it may be a messy affair.

6th September

A quiet day's racing, for a change. Only two races, a maiden and a nursery.

2:30 York
The form horses don't set the highest of standards so this looks an open race. Heslington ran well last time at Beverley. A speedy type, he has enough ability to win a race although his extreme layoff since April leaves a number of questions to be answered. Both Moorhouse Girl and Taborcillo have shown promise but improvement is needed else they are vulnerable. Marius Maximus could be the quality juvenile here, costing a hefty sum and well owned. Johnston is rather hit and miss with his juveniles and it is worth noting that he a poor win rate when priced over 7/1 on debut so this two-year-old will need to be relatively fancied to hold much hope. However, he does well at York. Coolminx is another juvenile that should be respected as Fahey does well with his juveniles when priced 13/2 & less on debut. Also, he often sends some of his best juveniles to York. An open race to say the least and the form horses need to improve to give them the edge over those making their debuts. I would rather watch this race myself, but Coolminx, if relatively fancied in the betting, is the most likely to run a race.

5th September

Sorry for a late update but internet went down.

A number of races today but Thirsk is most interesting.

2:00 Thirsk
It will be something of a puzzler how most of these juveniles will fare with the ground on the soft-side and what affect this will have on the draw. Dance For Julie is a consistent sort and a nice-looking juvenile. This 6f should allow her to show plenty of pace, which is always a bonus at Thirsk. She is a battling type and should go well. Opus Dei is a difficult juvenile to assess, although could turn out to be fair two-year-old and certainly has more promise than most of these. He may have been a beaten favourite last time out, changed stables since and had a decent spell on the sidelines, but that wasn't a bad effort by any means. Definitely one to keep an eye on today. A restricted auction race, but a few variables to consider with ground and draw difficult to assess. Dance For Julie is the most likely to run a race, however, I would be careful in these conditions.

2:30 Thirsk
Colepeper ran well on debut when second to Gillburg and should appreciate this extra furlong. The form of that race isn't anything out of the ordinary and at a short price there may be each way value with a few in here. Happy Dubai is a good-looking juvenile and although running well last time I thought he may have done a little better. The first three beat the rest by a wide margin and he has proven he handles this ground which is a big plus. This 7f may be the key to improvement and I would certainly have him on the shortlist today. True Loves Kiss will appreciate this step-up in distance. I quite fancied this runner on her last outing but she took an age to get moving and clearly needs a test of stamina. Another of Alan McCabe's juveniles to move to Jeremy Glover, who could have a good day at Thirsk, she is worth noting. She ran in a restricted auction race at Redcar last time and in truth that was a fair race for its grade. I can see this filly running her best race to date. The lay-off is a slight concern but at a price she may have each way claims.

Bet: 1/2 PT EW True Loves Kiss (available at 16/1) (Unp)

5:15 Thirsk
Not a race I am particularly interested in beyond seeing how Tate's Pink Flames runs. I get the feeling this is the best of his two-year-old fillies. Costing 210,000gns this juvenile has been entered for a number of Group races and could well run a big race today. Tate has had a number of juveniles run for Mrs Fitri Hay and none have managed to win on debut, which is often a good time to catch this trainer's juveniles. It is never easy to win on first time out and it may be the case Tate is bringing on this owners horses in a steady fashion rather than firing them up for their first start. However, I would definitely take note of this juvenile as sooner rather than later Tate will unearth a decent horse for this influential owner.

4th September

A fair number of races today but only a couple of interest.

2:10 Chepstow
Not a bad standard of horse for a restricted auction race and a few form horses will be trying to gain their first win today. Crystal Gale looks an out and out galloper and will no doubt be plugging on as normal. Milnagavie showed promise on debut when unfancied and ran on with purpose in the final furlong. Venutius is a nice looking horse. This gelding ran in a fair race at Great Yarmouth and should be suited by this longer trip. The soft ground will be a test for many of these and it could be a stamina-sapping race. McMahon has excellent win and place averages on second start and should run a big race. Not the easiest of events to appreciate with a number of the form horses capable in this grade.

Bet: 1pt EW Venutius (available at 4/1) (3rd)

7:20 Kempton
Pin Cushion has progressed with racing although she didn't really flourish on her second start and doesn't look one of Meehan's better juveniles. She has an element of ability and done well to get into the race at Newbury after being dropped-out in rear, then made good headway to seemingly have a fighting chance before tiring in the latter stages. She will run a decent race although may be susceptible at short odds. Alice Alleyne is an interesting runner for Sir Michael Stoute. You can never quite tell what you will get with his juveniles on debut - from sheer brilliance to poor. The vast majority of his juveniles win at 13/2 & less on debut and he has only a fair win and place rate. I would rather watch this juvenile today. Ferris Wheel needs to improve but Cole has very good statistics for his juveniles on their second start when relatively short in the betting (13/2 & less). This filly has a decent chance if in this betting guide.

Bet: 1pt EW Ferris Wheel (available at 4/1) (1st)

6:20 Wolverhampton
Waveband has been running consistently and from a low draw will run a big race today. I get the feeling Haggis thinks Ruthie Babe has a touch of ability but as yet has shown little and probably best watched, although he does well on the all-weather. I quite fancy Fear Nothing as Ed McMahon and John Fretwell have good win and place statistics on debut but the draw is a concern and I couldn't bet with that disadvantage.

A watching day.
