Sporting Life vs Racing Post

I'm probably teaching your old gran how to suck eggs

But Did You Know?

If in Harry Hill format - the Sporting Life & Racing Post could have a fight. Who would win? Fight!!!!!!!!!! I'm pretty sure this would be pay-per-view. Who would win?

To be honest, both are brilliant resources. There isn't a day goes past when I don't use both.

However, if you're interested in watching Racing Replays the Sporting Life is a winner by a knockout.

Why?

Well, the Racing Post makes you stick your hand in your pocket for the luxury of watching racing replays. Not with the Sporting Life.

It is FREE!!!!

Simply open an SKY BET account - get a free bet - then watch Attheraces (ATR) & Racing UK (RUK) via the Sporting Life website for zilch.

That's right - one handy website - your private archive. Forget about Sky+ or hard drive running out of space. Even if you still need every gadget under the sun - it's worth knowing because it saves you wasting cash.

Good luck.

2010 Review

2010 Review:

On balance it has been a disappointing year for the tipping service.

44 Selections
7 wins (16% strike rate)
17 win and place (38% strike rate)
-10 points for the season (2010)
+13.95 points profit since the start of the blog (2009)

I can only apologise for not achieving our goal of making a profit for the season.

The 2011 Flat Season
For HCE the new Flat season is always a time of excitement and hope for a successful year. The blog will continue in its normal format commencing with the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster in March.

General Thoughts

'Just a quick update about my general thoughts for the season so far. It has been something of a frustrating time as yet although I am happy in my thoughts and confident in finding a decent few winners as the season progresses. With rarely giving juveniles less than 4/1 and more speculative bets it can seem slow at times but with such selections that can be the nature of the beast. There will be decent opportunities around the corner so it really is all about the long term and just a couple of winners will put us well in front for the season. I am hopeful of a turn in fortunes for next month and more opportunities.'

Jason

The End of The Flat Season

The Flat season has come and gone with yesterday's meeting at Doncaster. As always, it has been a time to learn and refine our skills and endeavour to come back in March, for the new Flat season, a new-improved blog brimming with confidence and determined that H.C.E can continue to maintain that winning edge.

With the conclusion of this season, it is perhaps too easy to considering what went wrong rather than take all the positives which ultimately led to a decent points profit for the year and one or two big price selections that ran stormers but didn't quite prevail. On balance, we have to be pleased with our first season.

There is little doubt H.C.E will be bigger and better next year. We will be giving more tips and this will give a more balanced approach. We did fall into the trap of being too selective at the start of the season which caused problems. With my brother, Tony, taking a greater role along side myself and Gareth next season, we will be highlighting a good number of speculative-priced bets, which really make a season if one or two get there head in front. As followers will know, we rarely give selections less than 11/4 and generally we are looking for 4/1+ with an emphasis on each way bets. Considering we had a 50% place rate this season we have been pretty consistent. The big money comes from those infrequent 20/1, 25/1 & 33/1 shots (bigger on Betfair and other exchanges) which transform a so so year into something truly spectacular. Next season will see an emphasis on these type of selections. For that reason alone it is worth keeping an eye on the blog: signing-up to our free tips by email or mobile phone.

We will continue to follow the all-weather racing until the New Year but the postings will not be on a daily basis until the Flat season begins in March 2010. To be fair, the general standard of juvenile running on the all-weather is often quite poor and last season I rarely noted any bets of interest. If I do see something worthy as a bet, I will send the tips as per usual although I can imagine this period of time being quiet. It is good to have a breather at the end of a long season and recharge the batteries to come back bright eyed and eager for winners. In addition, I will be researching the H.C.E database and analysing each and every trainer. This is particularly important for our statistical bets and to understand those gems of knowledge, traits & trainer characteristics that make our selections stand out from the crowd. The fact that we specialize with two-year-old racing is of particular interest to many as this is a niche market.

I hope all our readers have enjoyed the blog and found it a source of winners and interest too. It has taken a huge amount of time to follow the entire Flat season.

Remember to keep our text/email because the new season always comes round quicker than you imagine. There will be plenty of exciting tips for you to consider and we are confident you will benefit from those speculative bets we are keen to advise.

Thanks for all the support from readers, fellow bloggers and the H.C.E team who have made this a winning season.

25th October - General Thoughts

No racing this Sunday so just a few general thoughts regarding the blog, the season and future goals.

I was pleased to have a few quid on Andrew Balding's Gardening Leave yesterday. It is unfortunate I couldn't detail this juvenile as a tip but being a statistical bet it was impossible at the cut-off point at 12:30 and I only made a decision to bet myself with a few minutes to the off. I actually had a bet on Aultcharn, too. Thought a place was a near certainty while watching only to see Meehan's juvenile struggle in the soft ground and plod home 6th. There is such a fine line between winning and losing at times - and this season has proven that point time after time. Our recent second with Alan Swinbank's Fourth Generation was a disappointing day. In future, with potential substantial win bets, I will put a few quid to lay at 1/5 so I am guaranteed a decent win whatever the outcome. It is boarding on crazy to have a horse touch 1/33 in-running and not win money. I hadn't really considered such a thought before the race and not even as our horses battled for a win. I was shouting at the TV so much that I just didn't have a chance to think of anything but - win! I live and learn, as usual.

In general, I am happy with my thoughts. Next season will be a much better year and I am confident that supporters of the blog will benefit from a number of speculative bets. Our research has identified a number of trainers who not only win at speculative prices but do so on quite a regular basis. We are getting there. This year has been positive although I feel our points profit could have been much better. There is always something to consider but we have been quite consistent in our little way. I feel that we have shown elements of ability but trust me there is much more to come next season. Tony, my brother, will be forwarding a number of speculative bets. He has done very well over the past few seasons but with work commitments he hasn't been able to add to the blog as we anticipated this year.

There is little doubt we will be forwarding more tips next season. We definitely fell into the trap of trying to be too selective at the start of this season, which really caused problems in many respects. There is often no logic to why one bet wins and another loses. It is sod's laws that the seemingly better choice runs like a pig and the half-interest wins in style. There is certainly a lot to be said for pinpointing juveniles at a speculative price. We rarely give selections less than 11/4 and to be fair I feel more comfortable with 7/2 as a starting point. But the big money comes from those infrequent big price touches.

This season is drawing to a close and I will be pleased to have a well-earned rest. There is far too much racing these days and just following the two-year-olds is hard work. I haven't considered any nurseries this season and generally concentrated on the maidens, auctions and the odd stakes race. I can't say I have missed the handicaps or feel that chances have been missed. Each to there own. If someone can make their racing pay then good for them. We specialise with two-year-olds and there are few blogs/tipping services which do that. This season has been a learning curve, as they always tend to be.

I will probably update the blog and put forward a few tips when the turf season finishes although you can never quite tell what standard of horse or opportunities may appear on the all-weather. The general standard of juvenile last season was next to hopeless and I can't say I noticed many runners of note. I hope all of our followers will continue to support the blog next season as I feel you will be pleasantly surprised by our performance. There will be many more bets right from the start of the season and a focus on speculative bets which have the potential to offer very good returns. Gareth, youngest brother and our web expert, is looking to make H.C.E much more impressive and certainly developing this service. The key point is we want you to stick with us. I can only hope that all of the people who have followed our tips are satisfied with the service and feel they have gained from our knowledge of the two-year-olds. This season hasn't been anywhere near as successful as I hoped but we have proved we have the potential to progress. I would like to thank everyone for their support and interest in H.C.E and continue to follow the rest of this season but especially the new flat season in 2010.

As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the support from readers and other bloggers alike.

From 33 tips we gave 8 winners featuring a 24% win rate and 18 win/place attaining 54% place with over 25 points profit.

Jason

22nd August

No particularly fancies today. A number of Stakes races for the juveniles which never make for the easiest betting medium - generally want a decent price to start.

Pleased to see Theladyinquestion winning yesterday. This year has been something of a learning curve and with making time for the blog plus studying it hasn't been ideal but from the small number of tips we have given we have done well and in truth this season has been all about finding the best approach. We have created problems by being too selective in ways and we have come to the conclusion it is best to just give more tips. Saying that, we rarely give tips shorter than 11/4 so we do draw a line at the price. We have attempted to be to precise at times and it is the classic that many decent bets are not put forward as tips which go and win and then the banker runs disappointingly. There is no logic to it and that is why the average must be the answer & why more bets isn't necessarily a bad thing.

We have an approach which details both form horses and statistical bets. Both compliment each other well & I feel this is the way forward.

I would like to thank all of the people who have supported the site and hope we haven't let anyone down with being so quiet on the tipping front. The blog and following the horses takes a huge amount of time and it can be difficult to find enough hours in the day. There is little doubt that in the future we will be more about giving tips rather than writing the blog for the sake of writing about horses.

Thanks for your support.

Jason

The Season Ahead...

It is at this time of year that I start to think about the new flat season ahead. This year will be as challenging as any other but I am looking forward to a good season and a chance to build the profile of High Class Equine. This blog will give you a chance to learn more about H.C.E, which to all purposes is a horseracing information service dedicated to two-year-old racing. This year may be of interest to you whether gambler or general enthusiast of the sport of kings. Throughout this season I will be detailing my thoughts and selections within these postings. I am sure you will find a few gems along the way.
