2:20 Goodwood Racing Tip (23rd May) SPITFIRE MAIDEN AUCTION STAKES (CLASS 5) (2yo)

A Maiden Auction Stakes over 5f  on good to soft ground. David Evans has a smart filly on his hands in the shape of Patience Alexander who may well be heading for Royal Ascot's Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2). Come Uppence is son of Captain Gerrard, and while no super star is a capable colt who should be winning before too long. This February foal was a big price on

debut at Leicester, a race that has been franked on a number of occasion. This bay colt railed like a greyhound at Chester next starts and had all in trouble until tiring in the last 100m. The testing ground could well have made a difference between winning and losing. In many respects Come Uppence has a similar profile in this race with testing going bringing a question mark or two. He has the pace to test these but will he struggle to finish his race. It will be interesting to see what tactics are employed today: whether gaining a lead and hoping to last to the finishing line or hold up tactics and making a fist of it at the line. If the going was faster I would be confident this horse would be a good each way bet. However, with such testing conditions I would take a watching brief.
