An EBF Maiden Stakes (Div II) over 1 Mile.

Quadriga is a recent purchase by Robert Eddery from the Tattersalls Autumn Horses-in-Training Sale for 15,500gns. This son of Acclamation was originally a 66,000gns foal & half brother to the talented Surrey Star. This February foal had three starts in Ireland before his sale when campaigned over 6-7f. It is difficult to assess the form although this bay colt was fancied on each start. Eddery is a superb trainer and it could be telling that he steps this youngster up to a mile for the first time. The form is difficult to appreciate but if starting favourite is worthy of respect.

Andrew Balding is a trainer who ticks the boxes, especially with juveniles on their second start. Ningara is a son of Singspiel and quite a costly foal at 65,000gns. This half brother to I Love Me  (who races predominantly at pattern class) finished fifth on debut at Lingfield over this distance when beaten less than three lengths. The form of that race was probably fair although something of a blanket finish. The betting on that first start suggested he needed the race and there didn't seem to be the greatest on intent from Probert who will be in a more positive mood today. From a statistical point of view this colt has fair win and place claims.

As I mentioned in other posts, David Elsworth has been busy with plenty of two-year-olds runners this winter. Snoqualmie Chief showed little on debut at Newmarket. However, it is a good sign to see one of their youngsters start at headquarters. That could perhaps explain why a much-improved performance was seen at Salisbury when stepping up to a mile. Considering this bay colt pulled hard early doors there could be more to come if settled. As a number of debutantes ran well that day but the form is nothing beyond the ordinary. Experience often counts for a lot around this turning course and one for the short list.

Thought And Memory is a well bred juvenile and not a forlorn hope on debut but ran as though in need of the run. Money talks with this stable and if backed to 13/2 & less has a fighting chance. It wouldn't surprise me if this son of Raven's Pass was backed from speculative odds.
