7:30 Bath (3rd June) - Result

An EBF maiden over 5f 161y on good to firm ground.

Miss Lahar, Balm & Luv U Forever competed at Windsor over 5f in May.

Miss Lahar, trained by Mick Channon, looked inexperience and hung on debut but ran well to beat the above mentioned, giving the impression she would appreciate this extra furlong. It is encouraging to note that this daughter of Clodovil has recently been entered to run at listed class. A big run can be expected.

Balm is likely to travel well but would seem to have a stiff task reversing the form with the favourite. The plus side is that she travels well and must have place claims and may take some pegging back if stealing a lead. On balance, Miss Lahar is a worthy favourite.

Luv U Forever needs to improve a good deal but may be capable of better. After a slow start Pat Murphy's youngster ranged up for a while before dropping out of contention. It may well be the case she needed the run in which case there may be better to come although a watching brief.

Rod Millman is always a trainer to be respected with his juveniles on their second start because they often show marked improvement. Ivor's Princess,a bay filly by Atraf, didn't show the greatest potential on debut at Warwick. Millman gave a considerate ride after a slow start and then being comprehensively outpaced. There is a fair chance she was unfit for that initial start because she looked quite big. On balance there wasn't too much to be excited about. However, this half-sister to Rosena Grey may have a hope at speculative prices and especially so if backed.

Mount Mcleod is an interesting juvenile. Jamie Osbourne's two year olds are in good form and this bay filly is an attractive sort and certainly has some pace to burn. The only hope for a winning performance is that this 38,000euro purchase has been raced unfit and gradually progressing with each run. That would take a leap of faith and best watched. However, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the odds of this daughter of Holy Roman Emperor shorten in running.

Conclusion: Miss Lahar should take all the beating today although may take a while to find her stride. Balm will travel well and could take some pegging back if gaining an easy lead. She could well have fair place claims and if the favourite disappoints could look a decent bet. The rest have much to prove. Ivor's Princess may go well at a price.

HCE: ''With similar margins between Miss Lahar and Balm you have to come to the conclusion Luv U Forever improved from that debut at Windsor. Millman's Ivor's Princess ran a great race at speculative odds and should find a race.''
