Rod Millman: Night Angel And Meloneras

Night Angel shaped up much better with the blinkers applied when finishing second on her third run at Nottingham, beaten a length and a half but pulling eleven lengths clear of the third. She was very unruly in the paddock on her first two runs and was very green in the early stages before staying on at the finish. In a bid to make her travel and behave better, we put on the blinkers and they worked a treat as she only found a highly regarded filly too good and she certainly looks capable of landing a Racing Post Bonus Race.

It proved to be an eventful two-year-old race at Ffos Las on Friday evening, one did a good impression of a rodeo horse leaving the stalls while the Mark Johnston trained odds-on favourite veered across the track. Having been intimidated by the other horses on her debut at Newbury, wanted to keep Meloneras handy with her rails position so had to be chased a long early. Then travelled nicely and got involved in a dual with the Johnston horse from two out. However, when that veered off the track, she got a little lonely in front and got caught yards from the line. What’s more frustrating is that she would have won a £10,000 Racing Post Bonus but she will keep on improving and will win races.
