Friday's Thoughts

12:55 Lingfield
Not the easiest race to assess but interesting to see how Romantic Wish goes today. A filly with plenty of size and scope, she was far too keen - pulling for a number of furlongs - over a mile last time at Kempton and ruined any chance, tiring in the final furlong after those exertions. This 7f will be more suitable and shouldn't be so fresh after a long lay-off which didn't help on her previous start. A wide draw (10) isn't ideal but over this distance it may not hinder too much. More of a watching race in truth, but Mills has a good record with his all-weather runners and a juvenile with enough ability to win a race or two. Tullius has fair place claims for the Winkworth yard.

A maiden over 5f and not the most straightforward of races with the main contenders all stepping down to this minimum trip for the first time. Map Of Heaven is a sister to the talented Enticing and has run creditably on both starts. Haggis does well on the all-weather and clearly connections will be looking to get a win from this filly. However, although she has claims in such an average race, it is a slight concern to see her running over 5f. From her running at Redcar I would imagine she will be outpaced and then it is a matter of whether she can catch the leaders. I can see her being much bigger odds in-running and that may be the angle if your selection. Three Sparrows is a difficult horse to assess - running over 6f - 7f and now chancing 5f. To be fair, Hannon's youngster doesn't lack speed. A compact sort, I can see this son of Dansili setting an average level of ability over this trip and has a fighting chance of winning but may be vulnerable. Steps is another colt with speed to burn and shouldn't be inconvenienced by this sprint distance. Jarvis and Robinson rarely waste their time and this grey colt probably sets the standard and most guaranteed of the three major hopes to run a race.

4:20 Wolverhampton
A tricky nursery. Pitkin is a very short price for this and may give each way value to one or two others. Easterby's recent winner goes up 6lb for a comprehensive win over Forty Proof and an attractive gelding who looks in good health. Miss Toldyaso may have each way claims. A compact filly, she is likely to appreciate this turning track and has been running consistently with a determined attitude.
