An open maiden fillies' race over this turning 6f on the grass.
Ragsta ran out an easy second to Brian Meehan's talented Radiohead. This was a very weak race, bar the winner, and it is difficult to imagine what Hannon's juvenile achieved that day. It is slightly concerning that Richard Smith has been booked, as he is often someway down the pecking order for rides, however on a busy day of racing this may not be as much a negative as it could be. However, it would be wise to see how Brunette, the stable's over runner, fares in the betting.
Curtains is a difficult filly to assess after her last run. She ran what looked to be a very encouraging race on debut, however, it may be the case that Dow's two-year-old was flattered that day by running off the pace. Perhaps the ground at Bath was on the fast side and these conditions will be more suitable. Basically, she needs an excuse for a disappointing effort last time.
Astarta was relatively short priced when taking part in a stakes race on debut over 5f. She will probably improve for this step up in distance although she isn't the most attractive of fillies and will need to improve.
It is encouraging to see Jamie Spencer taking the ride on Arabian Jewel as he has very good statistics with Simcock's juveniles. This filly doesn't have the best of draws and inexperience will be costly if she is none too quick away. Money for this runner would give additional hope.
A very open race where many have something to prove.
