2:20 Redcar (11th May)

A restricted auction maiden over 5f on firm ground. Four horses with form and two leading contenders: Farmer Giles and Ignatieff. Bell's two-year-old should take some beating. Ignatieff will probably try to lead all way but struggles to finish his races. Makbullet, Avonrose and Open Arms are interesting newcomers but will do well to beat form horses on debut.

Race review: ' Whozthecat made this look very easy indeed. Slightly keen for the first furlong, Nolan settled this colt in behind, just off the lead, and once making their move two furlongs out Carroll's two-year-old travelled to the front with consummate ease and thereafter was galloped to the line. This was an impressive display, however, whether this was a particularly taking performance of the winner or a lack of opposition from the field is a matter of debate. Ignatieff showed he has pace but again struggled to finish his race. Farmer Giles managed to master Stubbs' runner but Spencer quickly realised that Whozthecat had scooted by. Bell's two-year-old may have been unlucky to find fair opposition on his last two starts but it makes you wonder what this race amounts to. On one side of the coin it may be a poor race but it may just be possible that is was a decent auction maiden. The only way to know is to keep an eye on the form and see. Orpen Arms is certainly worthy of consideration if the race is okay. This filly ran on well at the line.
