2:00 Thirsk (16th May)

A sizeable field of filles over this 5f at Thirsk.

Most of the form horses do not appeal with the exception of Fenella Rose who ran well on debut and could improve. This daughter of Compton Place is a lovely-looking two-year-old and must have a good chance here.

The once-raced Lewyn is worth a mention as she was a short price on debut and certainly didn't help her chances by pulling for a long way. If she had an excuse or two for that performance she may be a leading light here. The only reason for consideration is if a speculative price was possible but that looks very unlikely with a tissue price of 6/1.

Of the unraced Burnt Cream comes from a trainer who needs little introduction as a two-year-old trainer. This filly costing £60,000 was bought this April at a breeze-up sale and certainly an interesting contender. On the negative side, Smart has sent 33 runners to Thirsk over the last five years without a winner, which doesn't inspire confidence. However, this juvenile is still worthy of appreciation is this event.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Tillys Tale came good here after showing an element of ability on debut but seemingly disappointed at Catterick. Only four horses ever got into this race and for much of the way it was a battle between Tillys Tale and Parbold Hill. Lewyn ran better without every quite putting down a winning challenge and Burnt Cream was greatly disadvantaged by a low draw. I can see Smarts juvenile improving from this debut and may be better than she looks. Fenella Rose was a late non-runner after refusing to go into the stalls.'
