1:50 Beverley (4th May)

A poor auction maiden event that won't take much winning.

On paper this looks a three-horse race. Maidtorun did just that finishing with some purpose here last time. Fahey is always a trainer to be respected and this filly may improve from her first effort. The form of that race has taken a few knocks of late however even though this race may be no better, you would still reason that improvement is needed.

Petrocelli by contrast run in a fair maiden auction at Leicester and flew home at the finish. McCabe is no fool and you can bet he will be trying for the win. It should be noted that the Petrocelli was convincingly outpaced on debut after the three leaders set a furious gallop before somewhat stopping in the final furlong. Clearly this colt by Piccolo should be much wiser today and the stiff finish will help his cause.

The Hermitage is an interesting runner for Mark Johnston and must be respected. This race wouldn't take a great horse to win it and this talented trainer has the choice of a large string which adds to his chances although in a race of this limited nature form in king.

A watching race.

Race review: 'Fahey's Maidtorun put in a battling performance to beat Jonhston's newcomer, The Hermitage, in a tight finish. Petrocelli ran a poor race although it was propably as good as he is. It would seem that he was somewhat flatter by his running at Leicester. This wasn't a very good race.'
