Wednesday's Thoughts

2:00 Nottingham
An open race with the main fancies having something to prove. Conjuror's Bluff finished third on his last start behind the talented stablemate Census. The form is no more than average and difficult to assess. One of the main contenders and has place claims. Parlour Games ran well on debut at Yarmouth and has enough ability to win a maiden race. However, this chestnut colt needs to put a terrible run last time behind him and may be best watched. The last few two-year-olds for Michael Jarvis have failed to live up to earlier performances which saw the majority winning on debut. Ittirad should be respected and one of the main dangers. Sea Soldier could be the answer to this tricky race and if fancied in the betting would have fair win and place claims. A cheap purchase at 8,000gns, this gelding by Red Ransom looked in need of the experience on debut, a race that has turned out to be very strong. Balding has given this youngster a Stakes entry, which is another pointer of encouragement. Improvement is needed, but like many of the trainer's two-year-olds, they often run a big race on their second start. If Spifer is fancied in the betting he has strong place claims, too.

Academy is a good-looking colt by Montjeu. The form of his debut at Newmarket was nothing out of the ordinary but there should be plenty of improvement seen today and will take the beating, albeit at prohibitive odds. Charles Camoin doesn't look in the same league as Sir Michael Stoute's runner and with the rest of the field unfancied, Midlothian is most likely to be the sole threat and may be an each way alternative. Godolphin have the potential to unearth a talented youngster at any time, however, Academy clearly has a big reputation.

3:15 Musselburgh
Fair prize money for this maiden with a winning purse of £6,475. Blue Destination looks a good buy at 8,000gns and this son of Dubai Destination ran a great race on debut at Newmarket, a race that has worked out very well. P J McBride has a high strike rate with his fancied runners on their second start and even though this colt has not been seen since August must have strong claims. Stansonnit is worth noting if heavily backed as Swinbank has done remarkably well with such individuals when making their debut this season and would be a significant pointer.

6:40 Kempton
James Toller doesn't have many two-year-olds in training but has done well with the few in his care this season. Twice Bitten is an attractive colt and has very strong claims in a restricted auction race.

7:10 Kempton
Similar comments can be made for Romantic Wish who ran well at Kempton last time and the Mills' stable have been in sparkling form with their two-year-olds this month.
