Thursday's Thoughts

2:30 Pontefract
A number of these have shown ability although all have something to prove making this a tricky race to judge. Double Dealer ran well on debut and it could well be the case that the Kempton race was strong. This colt by Dubawi travels well in his races which suggest this drop to 6f will not pose too many problems. However, it is always a slight concern and for that reason alone it may pay to be careful if taking an interest in this race.

Fityaan is a good-looking colt and could well be much better than his form suggests. Hill's two-year-old has been entered for a number of group races and went off a short price last time at Lingfield in a muddling race. From a wide draw things never seemed to be going smoothly and it is difficult to assess what he achieved that day. I would certainly fear this runner if betting in this race but would rather watch and learn a little more today. Once again, a wide draw is far from ideal at Pontefract as the slightest problem from the stalls can leave runners well adrift and chasing an impossible task.

One of the more interesting juveniles may be Sovereign Street trained by Ann Duffield. A sizable filly by Compton Place, the form of the Beverley debut is working out quite well and if this youngster can cope with the drop in distance could have a fighting chance. It is always a worry that horses dropped in distance will be outpaced and this will be a key point to this ones fortunes. At a price this filly has each-way claims.

A tricky race - but intriguing as the winner will have its share of ability.

A tough-looking nursery. Crucis Abbey enjoyed this surface and may have been an unlucky loser last time over 6f at Wolverhampton. Unett doesn't train many two-year-olds but there was a lot to like about the way this colt travelled that day and once again should hold a handy position. This extra distance shouldn't pose any problems and although a tricky race should run well. On Wings Of Love has shown glimmers of ability and is steadily dropping in weight. Bailey is a canny trainer and at a speculative price may be better than she looks.
