Morning...And An Outburst From Eddie Straights

So the Flat turf season has concluded. Great to see Hanagan win the Jockeys' Champion title for a consecutive year. It will be interesting to see if he can do it for a third time. It isn't the kind of thing I bet myself but it would have added that extra touch of excitement if De Sousa had taken it to the wire but hats off to Hanagan especially when you consider the vast majority of his wins are run-of-the-mill events. He is the working man's jockey.

HCE will still write previews for the two-year-old races until 1st January. Then we will feature a few guest writers, trainer profiles, professional gambler stories, and a touch of humour.  With no two-year-old racing action today I will try and find a couple of articles worth a reading & perhaps Eddie Straights will have something to say. He's the funny little bloke who lives on the outskirts of Newmarket and friends with all the jockeys, particularly the Hills' brothers. Eddie has been quite secretive about much of his life but I have a feeling he is going to tell us something about his early years before he found fame on HCE/Twitter. His latest mate on the circuit is Tracksuit Dave. You may remember that he made a hoax call saying some 'old deer' had stolen a designer shell suit off Dave's washing line and while rushing back home he missed a winner. You won't have heard that on ATR. Eddie was smiling to himself when he noticed Tracksuit Dave had re-tweeted his message. Eddie knows the great and good of Newmarket. In fact, he says he patted Frankel on the head and pulled his tail for a joke. I get the feeling Eddie is pulling my leg on that one although he said he has phoned Sir Henry Cecil after finding his telephone number in the Horses In Training 2011 publication. Honestly, he is like a child in a sweet shop with those numbers in personalised filofax. Curios, I asked what he said. His reply: 'He told me about an 'orse.'
