A Wandering Mind...One In The Bank (Perhaps)

A Wandering Mind...

A number of two-year-old races today but nothing too exciting. Quite a few contests either looked too competitive or the prices were a fraction short for me. I am not keen betting straight wins unless there is something extra special. My only wager was in the 2:15 Newcastle. Once again, Warcrown was all the rage but his supporters must feel as though they have been in the firing line with another woeful performance. It might just be the case he didn't go on the ground. I had my eye on Alan Swinbank's Silver Blaze. A win and place bet at 24/1 on Betfair. Just before the off there was good support for this runner, which helped make my decision. I normally only lay bets at half odds but decided to lay at 15/1. I am not the biggest fan of betting on debutantes but felt there was good reason to consider this individual but wasn't going to turn down the option of an easy alternative. It meant I had a no-lose wager to win several hundred so I was pleased with that. Silver Blaze didn't show too much ability but I was impressed by the look of this juvenile when viewing him at the start. A real strong chestnut with much appeal. It was encouraging that Swinbank opted to race at Newcastle and I will definitely have a bet on this two-year-old next start. He could go well at speculative odds.
