Majestic Rose Records West Ilsley's First Juvenile Win Of 2011

Two year olds on Hodcott Down
The season now feels as if it's up and running after Majestic Rose took the median auction maiden at Kempton Park in the colours of Owner Jaber Abdullah last night.

Ridden by our apprentice Martin Harley, his 5lb claim didn't appear to be the deciding factor in the outcome as the daughter of Imperial Dancer chased the leader Van Go Go, pulled alongside at halfway and took it up a furlong from home to stretch away and win by two and a quarter lengths.

On pedigree it was something of a West Ilsley affair as both Imperial Dancer and the Dam Solmorin were trained here. In addition, Solmorin belongs to MRC and is based at Norman Court Stud in Hampshire with whom we have close ties.

Majestic Rose is the mare's fourth winner from four foals, the best being Lucky Leigh who finished an agonising, all-alone fourth in the Queen Mary having been drawn on the wrong side.

Obviously it's impossible to say whether Majestic Rose has the ability to mix it in Group company, although her breeder-trainer remains optimistic.

"I'm delighted that we've got off the mark so early in the season and breeding her myself makes it all the more special. Jaber saw her in the paddocks when she arrived from Norman Court Stud and liked her immediately - he's a very shrewd judge and it's fitting that he owns our first two year old winner of the season.

"Not many of ours win first time up and I'm not sure how good the race was, but Majestic Rose could do no more than win and we'll see how good she is next time. Her half sister was very sharp as a two year old but was all jarred up in the Queen Mary and we never got her back after that. This filly might need a little further being an Imperial Dancer, but she's good looking and very strong. The season hopefully starts here."
