2:15 Carlisle

An auction race for colts and fillies over this 5f with a median sales price of no more than £28,000.

Button Moon made an encouraging debut at Salisbury. Being less than a couple lengths behind Foghorn Leghorn sets a decent standard for this grade and this filly by Compton Place is likely to improve as Woods rarely has his juveniles flying first time out.

Tom Dascombe's two-year-olds have been in better form of late but Mirror Lad seems something of an enigma. Clearly held in some regard to run in the Brocklesby, this little grey colt hasn't managed to last home in both his starts. Dascombe suggested that a greater distance would be needed but for now they are sticking with 5f. He has achieved a basic level of form. After a short break he may be better spirits.

The once raced Reachtothestars is an interesting runner here. A lovely looking colt by Silver Train, he started his career in a competitive stakes race at Thirsk and had a desperately slow start before being positioned near the rail, given a considerate ride, then ran on with some purpose in the final furlong. Dods has since entered this juvenile for another stakes race and this colt is capable of better.

Bigalo's Vera B is worth a mention as this filly by Ishiguru has been entered to run in a number of stakes races, which is always a sign of encouragement. The dam was a two-year-old winner so perhaps Mullaney has a nice youngster. This trainer from Malton, has four two-year-olds in training. One to give a chance at a speculative price.

Of the debutantes, Marine Commando is a recent breeze-up purchase at £34,000 and likely to be fit and ready. Fahey has a wealth of talented two-year-olds and his youngsters feature fair place rates on debut. In addition, Karl Ryan has Shoshoni Wind although the booking of Royston Ffrench could well be a negative.

Comment: 'Exceptionally well backed but a poor performance. A lovely looking colt, showed good speed but floundered in the final furlong and far from what was expected.'

General thoughts: "Just a quick note about recent tips. Disappointing efforts from the last few selections but happy with overall posts and thoughts. With our selective approach it can often make a loser or two seem all the more disappointing but feel I confident there will be plenty of winners to come."
