When the 2yo season begins I will be working longer hours than most people could imagine. But life/work/dreams come in many shapes and forms, hey.

You are one of my favourite commentators so I do listen. That cotton wool hasn't quite reached the anvil yet...lol.

I apologise to anyone if I seemed overly grumpy. Although as people get older the grumpy gene reaches maturation. All you you people out there, take note. If you have a compulsion to buy a smoking jacket...take a long hard look at yourself...and run.

The most important factor with breeding is that the sire imparts ability.ie he produces winners. Many sires are very poor. It takes a certain type of sire to produce 2year old winners.once you have a shortlist of proven 2year old sires your half way there.temperament can arise in any horse and i think you should pay close attention to all horses on every run as regards to regressing mentally.

I can't say I really know horse breeding as well as I should. A lot of people talk about juveniles of Hawk Wing as being indifferent. I guess - as with all biology - it is a matter of nature/nurture. Trainers are often quoted as saying that a certain breeding line does this, that or the other...but whether it is objective or they see what they want to see is a matter of opinion, I guess. It would make sense that certain horses have a tendency to be difficult but not sure if there has been any objective testing/significance to this. Interesting topic for others to give their opinion.

I tried to explain to someone that a lost wager on a coin toss offered at 13/8 is a better bet than a successful wager on a coin toss offered at 8/13. But it lost, he tells me.
Mind you not as bad as my mum who saw me looking at asian handicaps and thought I was betting on disabled Indians!

You know I like my short price lays (when my bot is operational!), well even more so with the jumps. If something is 1-10 over fences thats got to be a bad bet no matter what the opposition, due to the fact it could fall or get taken out by a no-hoper.

Personally, it is important to bet when you have value on side. So, in theory, I'm not against betting at any price although I would rarely bet at less that 1/1f. More often than not, I bet at 5/2+. I am not against betting at huge odds. Each year I have a few 100/1 shots on Betfair which I know will have a fighting chance. I find - to some extent - it isn't a good move to say I wouldn't bet at so and so price because you can guarantee one day such a bet comes along and you simply don't do it out of some crazy principle. But that is the paradox of gambling for me. It pays to have guidelines because they can be very helpful in stopping you doing ridiculous bets...but at the same time you need the flexibility to take advantage of opportunities. A difficult line to treat - but very important because they can be the best bets.
