2:50 Haydock Racing Tip (3rd July) DISTINCTION DOORS EBF STALLIONS MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) (2yo)

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 6f on good to firm ground. Ten two-year-olds take part: all colts/geldings and solitary filly. Over half the field lightly raced - a few big stables with horses held in some regard.

This looks a fair maiden.

A few of these have been given entries for the Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2). They include: Dutch Connection, Faydhan & Shootingsta.

Dutch Connection showed inexperience on debut but ran with promise and will know more today - the horse to beat.

It's interesting to see John Gosden's debutante so strong in the betting. Faydhan is a son of War Front out of an unraced mare. This February foal cost $500,000 at the Keeneland Yearling September Sales. Gosden doesn't have many debutantes start at odds of 5/2 & less. In general, it is a very good sign of ability and they often run a big race.

With two hot favourites taking the majority of the market Shootingsta may be pushed out in the betting. Whether this is a good or bad thing is a matter of opinion. Bryan Smart has had a quiet season. By his standards its surprising he's still searching for his season's first two-year-old winner. This son of Fast Company ran well enough on debut, looking pretty straight, but open to improvement. Smart's juveniles often go well on their second start and this horse will be professional. If priced 13/2 & less has sound each way claims. With such strength at the head of the market this betting guide could be in the balance from a statistical perspective.

On The Tiles finished a long way behind Shootingsta on debut and by all accounts has a mountain to climb. However, he showed pace before tiring. Ed McMahan's juveniles have good place claims on their second start and may hold a glimmer of hope at big odds.

7:00 Newbury - Goldcrest [A good-looking two-year-old which travelled well on debut but tired in the closing stages as if needing the race. If priced 13/2 & less sp has sound each way claims]
