NOT SO LUCKY 10
A restricted Median Auction Maiden Stakes over 5f 20y.

An intriguing little race. I quite like Derek Shaw's juvenile Welliesinthewater. This son of Footstepsinthesand was a cheap breeze-up purchase but ran much better than he looked on debut at Carlisle. He was terribly slow away from the stalls and had next to no chance thereafter but to his credit made impressive headway to almost hold a fighting chance at the two pole. That was a fair race for the grade so to be beaten less than nine lengths was a respectable introduction. The only problem is the difficulty in assessing where this colt stands with regard to winning a race. Unanswered questions can often lead to problems and the only resolution to this is a price. He certainly couldn't afford to be slow away from the stall on this turning track. Also, you have to trust this minimum trip will not be too quick. Shaw is a canny trainer and if his two-year-old are going to show their worth second start is usually the day. He used to do very well on the all weather and I would consider this bay has fair win and place claims.

The main opposition is Multisure who looks a progressive type.

Grievous Angel has shown a level of ability but I would have major worries this return to 5f will be much too quick. Duffield has applied the visor in an effort to fire her up. It will need to have the desired effect else her backers could find themselves with an uphill challenge. It may be wise to bet in-running just to see she is sitting handy else it might be a bet you would rather forget.

Conclusion: Not the easiest of races but half interested in Welliesinthewater. Not the type of horse I would back at short odds but may be worth a small each way bet if 8/1+.
