A selection of top-flight trainers. Cotton Trader should appreciate this drop to 1m after showing good pace on debut at Wolverhampton. This son of Hard Spun was a pretty short price against a few experienced juveniles and didn't lack for fitness but seemingly struggled to quite get home over the extended trip. He should have the pace to sit handy and a leading chance.
Interesting to see Sir Henry Cecil fielding All That Rules (HCE Dark Horse). This is the second runner for Andrew Tinkler and by all accounts a well backed debutante on the exchanges. This son of Galileo cost E90,000 as a yearling and a two-year-old who held Group race engagements. Cecil's juveniles can win on debut although they feature a much better strike rate on their second start.
Royal Prospector was a big price last time when finishing second. This bay colt had shown little in his first two starts and it could well be the case that wasn't the strongest of contests at Kempton. A watching brief.
Andrew Balding has his juveniles in good form and Restaurateur was strongly fancied at Wolverhampton over 7f. Liam Keniry pressed on that day and looked to have the opposition in trouble. However, the tables were quickly turned when Press Baron finished with real purpose and found little resistance. It could well be the case that the winner, trained by John Hills, has a fair level of ability. On balance, you have to question whether this extra furlong will help or hinder. At the prices, Restaurateur has each way claims because he may have done a little too much in front last time.
Conclusion: Cotton Trader will appreciate this drop in distance and it was telling how strongly fancied he was on debut. All That Rules has been backed and could be a talent. However, he will need to be fit and ready to win at the first time of asking and perhaps a better proposition next time out. Restaurateur may have each way claims at a price.
