A Wandering Mind...Not Enjoying Mackenzie's Oasis

An indifferent day. Never good news. After watching the darts final on Sunday, I know the feeling of hitting a twenty five when you were hoping for a bulls eye. Today, HCE gave two Regular Tips, and gave a mention to a couple of other horses. Well, you know what happened: the mentions hit the spot while the tips gave rather frustrating displays with me feeling it could have been a decent day's work.

The first HCE Regular Tip was Serene Oasis (2:20 Salisbury). I felt quite confident Channon's juvenile would be placed at worst and a fighting chance of a win. However, the blustery conditions didn't make positive front-running tactics a winner. After travelling well, and looking a fair bet, this grey filly tired in the final furlong to be caught by those running off the pace. If only Culhane had ridden from off the pace it could have been oh so different. These things happen but from the races I watched at Salisbury it paid to be out the back.

Mister Mackenzie (2:30 Windsor) was a fair win and place bet at 11/1 and I can't be disappointed by his running although it was frustrating to miss out on a place by a small margin.

Then came the two mention, which both run storming races. I gave Intense Pink (1:40 Yarmouth) a mention saying it was an outsider which could be backed. It must have been 20/1+ this morning (it was 60 backed to 30's then 16 on Betfair, just before the off) and started at 12/1. Wall's two-year-old ran well and made such headway at one point that it touch odds of 1/5 on Betfair, eventually finishing 3rd.

The other mention was Dutch Master (1:50 Salisbury) which was freely available at 7/1 and backed to 100/30 at the off. Balding's two-year-old ran well to finish 2nd losing by a neck.

It was one of those days. Frustrating. I had a bet on Intense Pink and just missed out trying to lay at 1.1 in-running. Had a win and place bet on Serene Oasis & Mister Mackenzie. Then to top it all, only managed to get a small bet on Dutch Master at 13/1, before it was backed down, down, down and like the foolish man I am waited for the price to drift back out, which never happened. At least I won a few quid on the place which I laid at half odds, as I did the win bet which just went amiss.

To be fair, I was happy with each selection and even though the two HCE Regular Tips - in ways - didn't quite deliver I would back them again because another day, at worst, they would have both hit the frame. That just goes to show the vagaries of gambling. Some you win, some you lose.
