1:50 York (8th October) Horse Racing Tips/Result

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 7f. A decent purse for this race. Choisan has been knocking on the door and deserves to take a race. This big, strong colt has done nothing wrong in his last few races and a durable type. This drop back in distance shouldn't be a problem and a determined run should be expected. The horse to beat.

Marching On wasn't suited by the drop back to 6f, which saw him completely outpaced. Perhaps he is ideally suited to somewhere in between as he has struggled to quite last the trip over 7f. His run over course and distance was one of his better performances. It will be interesting to see if they try front-running tactics or sit in behind and finish because this son of Rock Of Gibraltar has been vulnerable in the closing stages.

The focus of any people's attention will be on Hanagan with the jockeys' title becoming a theme of the racing day. Mickdaam ran well on debut at big odds but let down his followers at Goodwood when running poorly. It is difficul to gage this juvenile  and the form of that debut has been knocked a few times. I would have concerns Fahey's juvenile will be under priced and a watching brief for me.

With good prize money on offer there is always the chance a fair debutante will be in the line-up and Tom Dascombe's Brockwell could figure. Money talks for this stable and if this son of Singspiel is backed I would expect a big run.

Conclusion: Choisan is the most proven of these and sets a fair standard. A good-looking juvenile, he has a battling attitude and should take some beating. Mickdaam has something to prove, while Marching On doesn't seem to be finishing his races, which makes him vulnerable. Brockwell is one of the more interesting juveniles. The stable can win on debut and if backed would have fair win and place claims.

HCE: ''Mickdaam was well backed and battled to overhaul Choisan (2nd) who done little wrong. Three Darlings travelled well before tiring, but held on for 3rd, while Brockwell showed promise finishing strongly in 4th after being outpaced due to inexperience.''
