An EBF Maiden Stakes over 1m on good ground.

Roger Charlton has done well with his juveniles, especially a couple of potential stars under the ownership of HRH K Abdulla. Silver Lime showed promise on debut when given a considerate introduction. This colt by Mizzen Mast made ground in the closing stages giving the impression this step up to a mile would be ideal. A fair bet.

I'm interested to see how Mcdonald Mor progresses for changing stables. Mrs Fitri Hay must have had a falling out with Cole to see such an exodus of horses and Roger Varian and David Simcock have benefitted. After watching this bay colt on all three starts, I come to the conclusion he is best left alone as a betting proposition (unless you are a layer). He has ability, travels well on the bridle, but seems to have a dislike for being pressed in any shape or form. Perhaps this step up in distance - time off course - will bring about a more determined character but I would have my reservations. He is the kind of horse to travel well and falter when asked for more.

City Dazzler is the only filly in the race. She battled well when finishing second last time. Hannon's juveniles have been in scintillating form and could well have each way claims.

Conclusion: Silver Lime has the look of a progressive juvenile and would be my selection. I couldn't bet on Mcdonald Mor. Perhaps a change of scenery and stepping up in distance will bring with it a gritty determination. However, he looks the type to buckle when pressed. City Dazzler is fair each way option but will most likely struggle to beat Silver Lime.

HCE: 'Couldn't see the race as they had a technical problem. Silver Lime seemed to be struggling, then won 'in command'. Journalistic ran much better today, while City Dazzler was a distant third.'
